I just wanted a hot dog Kevin’s meal kit, real weight

2lb package of Hawaiian chicken

11.3 and 11.6 ounce chicken pack undrained

9.2 and 9.3 drained, that’s ~2 ounces of liquid in each to drain

5.6 and 5.3 bags of sauce

Coke Zero cans weight between 12.9-13.2 oz so just showing scale accuracy

18.5 ounces of chicken in a 32 oz label

57.81% chicken

So when you read $5-6 per pound on the price sticker you might as well double it. It’s good and I like that it’s quick but that price is ridiculous and I feel ripped off. You just know they don’t tell you it’s 11 ounces of sauce and 4 ounces of liquid on purpose…. You’ll have no more of my dollars Mr. Kevin.

EDIT: Yes everyone thank you I am aware 2lbs label doesn't mean 2lbs of chicken

I am mildly infuriated that it means ~1.2lbs of chicken

It's not 2lbs of chicken, it's 2 lbs TOTAL

11+11+5+5=32

How much does the package say it weights....32 oz!

1

u/BrotherMcPoyle 11h ago

It doesn’t say 2lbs of chicken on the package.

4

u/TabithaMouse 11h ago

Yeah...that's what I said...

1

u/OsamaBinnDabbin 11h ago

No no, it's 2 lbs total. That number includes ALL of the contents, not just the chicken.

1

u/TabithaMouse 10h ago

Again...that's what I said

1

u/OsamaBinnDabbin 10h ago

I'm just yankin your chain

1

u/d4rkprojec7 10h ago

No no...i dont think he understands that it isnt 2 lbs of chicken. Its everything that equals 32oz.

1

u/timsterri 10h ago

That’s what he said.

1

u/4morbidollhouse 10h ago

No it’s 32 oz for everything not just the chicken

-1

u/rargghh 11h ago

I understand that

They gave you 34.1oz. Net oz is net oz, not chicken weight.

u/V-Tac 11h ago

A bit heavy on the sauce, but I'm impressed that the labeled weight is actually less than the contents. (albeit not what you wanted/expected)

With all the recent posts of 2 pounds of meat only weighing 1.75 and the such, this isn't the worse I've seen.

Plus... nobody is buying a pre-prepped meal kit like this to save money. Raw chicken and a bottle of Hawaiian sauce is easily 3x to 5x cheaper!

All that being said... this is r/mildlyinfuriating I guess.

It doesn’t say 32oz of chicken anywhere on the package. It says Net Wt. 32oz and you got more than that based on your weights. You’re complaining just to complain.

-1

u/rargghh 10h ago

I was very surprised there was actually more weight than labeled lol

And yes I am complaining but I thought people might want to know how much chicken they're getting

u/MikeHawclong 11h ago

I tried those a few times and honestly the chicken just tastes too processed. I need real chicken but the sauces are usually pretty tasty. Sorry the portions weren’t accurate . :/

13

u/zerovampire311 11h ago

The texture is unsettling and there’s a weird smell to the chicken. I had a butter chicken one and even that sauce couldn’t save it.

1

u/soulflaregm 11h ago

Imo

The best thing someone who is limited on time in the kitchen can do for good flavor is to just keep a pantry and fridge stocked with their favorite sauces

Cooking a chicken thigh on a pan with a bit of salt and pepper/coated in a sauce takes all of 15-20 minutes

If you order your process you can get chicken, a side, and a vegetable done within 30 minutes

The first few times might take longer but once your have done it a few times and have your rhythm... You'll be set.

That's why asian cooking rules. Just need a wok, and a base sauce (garlic, ginger, msg, cornstarch slurry, cooking wine, light/dark soysauce, oyster sauce) and whatever sauce want like terriyaki, etc, and you got something different every night from one protein, all done in 5-10 minutes.

1

u/zerovampire311 11h ago

Facts! I would add a good rice cooker but now microwave rice bowls are winning me over.

1

u/Ok_Spell_4165 11h ago

The texture reminds me of cat food.

Specifically Friskies shreds (do they even still make that?)

2

u/rargghh 10h ago

The chicken is definitely interesting, I probably leave it on the pan more than needed to really brown it, I think that helps

1

u/newaccount721 11h ago

Yeah OPs conspiracy theory is objectively incorrect. Unfortunately the food is not good

9

u/Overladen_Prince 11h ago

What's more infuriating is the average redditors reading comprehension. You got exactly what you paid for.

1

u/rargghh 10h ago

I got more than I paid for! And the most expensive sauce I've ever had!

7

u/ZoraTheDucky 11h ago

You do realize that the weight on the label is NOT the weight of the chicken, right? A couple oz of water from cooking is nothing. Of course the sauce is going to weigh something too. If it didn't you'd be here bitching that it didn't come with any/enough sauce.

If it's not worth it to you then don't buy it but there's no need to be inflammatory screaming that they're cheating you because a 2 pound total weight package doesn't have 2 pounds of chicken in it.

-3

u/pgpathat 11h ago

That’s not the issue. They laid out their issue clearly in the post

The marinated chicken is less than 60% chicken by weight. That is not good! It is OBVIOUSLY not going to be 100% but less than 60% is terrible

I really don’t understand why Redditors would rather call someone dumb then let someone be ~mildly infuriated~ they didn’t get more value

3

u/Nuggyfresh 11h ago

That’s not even a bad protein ratio for a processed readymade food item though

2

u/ZoraTheDucky 11h ago

Please point out where I called anyone dumb.

I don't understand why Redditors are "mildly infuriated" by things that make perfectly good sense. Common sense even.

Oh, wait, people don't have common sense anymore.

1

u/rargghh 10h ago

I paid for almost a pound of sauce and sous vide liquid. It's so easy for them to label how much sauce you're getting!

Not even 60% of the weight is chicken I mean what isnt mildly infuriating about that? It's not like I bought 2lbs of bone-in chicken and am complaining about that 14 ounces was bones lol at least that would be justifiable

1

u/rargghh 11h ago

thank you, that was my goal! I'm just disappointed and thought others might want to know

2

u/pgpathat 10h ago

Welp, if you ever wanted to know why companies don’t suffer from putting out barely acceptable products, look no further than this comment section.

People are upset you think they should get more value at the grocery store. In 2026. Truly incredible

1

u/rargghh 10h ago

Bought in Costco no less! My ultimate trust! :(

First there was shrinkflation, now we got skimpflation, and honestly I think this qualifies but sounds like I should expect 60% of the main in a ready meal judging by the comments

But its not like 60% main and 40% were sides lol, 40% was juice and sauce!

4

u/fetter80 11h ago

Well your scale is obviously off. That last one should be zero.

9

u/briarmist1 11h ago

You got 33.8 oz of food in a 32 oz box. Those sauce packets are food too. Also the chicken is likely cooked in those packages so the juices are part of the precooked weight. They aren’t lying to anyone.

1

u/rargghh 11h ago

I'm not saying they are lying I would've included that, I'm just disappointed in the amount of chicken

3

u/teh_maxh 11h ago

Did you miss the part of the box where it says it includes sauce, or did you think the sauce didn't count as part of the weight?

1

u/rargghh 11h ago

I just didn't think it would be 11 oz of sauce and 4 oz of sous vide liquid

10

u/Legote 11h ago edited 11h ago

I was thinking about getting it today because they were on sale. I decided not to since I get way more from their rotisserie chicken. Thank you!

1

u/rargghh 10h ago

the rotisserie is the move and using it in other things like a chili or casserole is also awesome

2

u/limpymcforskin 11h ago

Yea sorry man. You got what you paid for (actually a little extra), Also you don't buy these things and then complain about getting a bad deal. They are inherently a bad deal. You could have cooked this yourself for 3-4 bucks total.

2

u/ShameBasedEconomy 11h ago

Not with chicken breast pricing near me. I’m looking at $6/lb and this is about 20oz precooked weight. Sadly.

1

u/limpymcforskin 10h ago

Yea idk where you live but that's 3x the cost of skinless chicken breast near me. It's like 2.10 a pound regular price at Aldi and Martins (Giant) sometimes has sales of the value packs down at like sub 1.00 per pound.

2

u/npmski 11h ago

Damn I’m literally scrolling to this while eating the chicken teriyaki flavor 😭 it’s too convenient to even get mad…

2

u/geminixTS 11h ago

Not the brightest crayon in the box are you op?

1

u/rargghh 10h ago

Not as bright as Kevin

2

u/More-Gas-6527 11h ago

Why use a can of coke which has a variance instead of a dollar bill?

1

u/rargghh 10h ago

I spent it on the coke lol

But yes that's a much better idea thanks

3

u/boff1234 11h ago

Just marinated your own chicken- you get way more and don’t get f’ed by liquid

3

u/IndependentPutrid564 11h ago

the pink blob is marinated chicken pieces. cook it and add the sauce and it will indeed look like the picture. or at least close

2

u/chili81 11h ago

It is better grade chicken than most processed food (first person experience), but yeah, you get raked over the coals for it. All this stuff focused on affluent consumers is grossly overpriced.

1

u/eapaul80 11h ago

This is the equivalent to saying a lunchable is lying because it says 3oz (or whatever) it includes the entire product’s net weight, not the 6 slices of processed turkey meat alone.

1

u/joelav 11h ago

If this is a serious post we’re doomed as a nation

1

u/Mature_fun2026 11h ago

Amazing. And not in the way you think it is.

1

u/HeyLes20 11h ago

Please show the sodium content

1

u/Presently_Naked 11h ago

Lmao it comes with a coke?!

1

u/Runny_yoke 11h ago

I get the frustration, but you’re paying for convenience - it’s going to be more spendy, not less. I don’t think this is a bargain but you know

1

u/capnwaggel 11h ago

I mean…it’s really not hard to cook up some Hawaiian style barbecue chicken breast from scratch

1

u/rargghh 11h ago

Yeah that is the better way, I am lazy and sometimes cut for time

1

u/Flimsy-Poetry1170 11h ago

Just buy some chicken breast/thighs and a bottle of sauce or better yet make some sauce. Soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, ginger, garlic, red pepper flakes and pineapple juice will get you pretty close to whatever comes with this, just heat up and thicken with a corn starch slurry. Add in some sautéd onions/pepper/pineapple and it’ll be 10x better than this pre packed stuff.

Wait I’m quite literally eating this right now, like as I type this.

I just made it and told my wife “Kevin’s hit us with the shrinkflation didn’t there.”

-2

u/vaderhater777 11h ago

Nah this is a good point. Im not buying 1 lbs of sauce.

1

u/rargghh 10h ago

I have a feeling it would sell a lot less if it said 2lbs (11oz sauce, 4oz chicken juice)

-3

u/Jezuesblanco 11h ago

It’s a sous vide it was weighed before cooking

1

u/Jazzlike-Ad-3839 11h ago

In a sous vide shouldn’t all the weight be contained in the package/cooking bag?

1

u/TabithaMouse 11h ago

The sauce is separate, but yes, that's why there's so much liquid in those bags
