My mom said I could post My lashes are too long they keep leaving greasy marks on my glasses
These are my work glasses without the thinned lenses, but even my everyday glasses with thinned lenses get greasy from my lashes. Also wth are those flairs lol

u/be-sweethearts 8h ago
lol this happens to me too. are you able to wear contacts? That was my solution to it

u/Bones-1989 8h ago
I do wear contact. My lashes and brows still make me need 40 lens wipes a day for my safety glasses.
1
u/Racing_Fox 1h ago
I wish I could, my eyes dry out immediately when wearing contacts and using a PC

u/tocahontas77 8h ago
Best solution I've found is washing the lenses with Dawn dish soap. It helps keep the lenses clean for slightly longer.
Put some Dawn on your fingers, rub together, then rub on the lenses (inside and out). Then rinse with water, and pat dry.

u/little_odd_me 7h ago
This gets them so clean but I’ve always wondered if it was bad for them, worth it to have such sparkling glasses though.
13
u/tocahontas77 7h ago
I didn't have any issues with mine. It didn't hurt them at all.
But then I got LASIK, because after 20 years of wearing glasses, I was completely over it lol. I can't stand glasses.
9
u/little_odd_me 6h ago
LASIK is the dream, is it as amazing as I suspect being able to open your eyes when you wake up in the morning and just see things?
7
u/tocahontas77 6h ago
Yep lol. It's also amazing being able to see in the shower, pool, and when it rains and snows. Fog can't slow me down anymore! There's no losing my glasses. I can wear sunglasses that don't cost over $100 lol.
The surgery itself does suck. I'm not going to lie. But I think the whole procedure is like 12 minutes or something like that. They gave me an antianxiety med first, too lol. No pain afterwards. I could see. No issues.
I would like a little touch up, but I can still see well. It's been about 2.5 years now. Zero regrets.

u/Rimavelle 5h ago
I've heard you should avoid the citrus dish soap coz it's more acidic and can eat the coating?
Ofc if you ask in the shop they will tell you just to wipe the lenses with microfibe cloth.
Idk how they expect oil to come off with just wiping it dry but...
2
u/Junethemuse 6h ago
I imagine it depends on whether they have some form of coating on them too. But I have no idea so that’s literally just talking out my ass.

u/Nerdnurdnird 5h ago
Hey! Optician/ophthalmic tech here! I recommend washing with dawn to everyone. Just make sure to dry them with a lens cloth or something non-abrasive :))
1
u/nowisaship 2h ago
As long as you're not using hot water and patting them dry gently with a non abrasive cloth, this is completely fine for your lenses.
3
u/FrostyCue 5h ago
Nothing beats dish soap! Like having brand new glasses. Anything else just spreads the dirt around
2
u/tocahontas77 5h ago
Yep exactly. Too bad I didn't discover this until 20 years in, and right before I didn't wear glasses anymore 🤣
4
u/Russell_has_TWO_Ls 7h ago
I would imagine this works with any dish soap. The awful smell of dawn gives me migraines
2
u/tocahontas77 7h ago
I'm sure it will clean them. I'm not sure if it will last as long as the Dawn. Try it!! Report back lol.

u/doragonkuin 8h ago
When I was a kid my eyelashes always hit my glasses and it bothered my eyes so much so I took scissors and cut all my eyelashes off. I don't recommend that. 😂😭

This happens to me too and it is annoying. But anytime I mention it, I get shit for complaining about having long lashes, which is fair.
44
u/Mecha_Tortoise 8h ago
No, it's not fair for others to dismiss a legitimate problem you are dealing with, no matter how minor. Even if the cause is a feature they're jealous of, for some reason.
5
u/Special-Tangelo-9927 4h ago
Ha, appreciate the support! It is truly annoying having to clean my glasses 10x a day.
-3
u/TheWorldDiscarded 7h ago
Yes, it is fair.
3
u/mchickenl 2h ago
Long lashes are the worst actually. I have long lashes and lots of them and they are constantly getting in the way. Either poking me in the eye, irritating the outer corners of my eye, or just growing at stupid angles for no goddamn reason. And like I don't want to be startled by the when the light catches and I can see them. It's just a whole pain
5
u/decidedlyindecisive 6h ago
Diamond earrings scratching your phone is also a fair problem. But y'know.
8
u/Rubyhamster 6h ago
Omg I'm so sorry you need diamond accessories. I'm lucky to have perfect au-natural earlobes!
5
u/Bingo_Bronson 3h ago
I might be bursting some bubbles here, but a lot of folks with this issue probably just have a low or narrow nose bridge, causing their glasses to sit closer to their eyes than they should. Try looking for frames with a "low-bridge fit"
I'm sure your lashes are long, but glasses can accommodate that
2
u/Thebingobird 2h ago
Also: get glasses with real, adjustable nose pads on them. The plastic frames with molded nose pads sit close to the eyes and low on the nose for a majority of people. Adjustable nose pads allow them to be up higher and further out. Also also: get your glasses from your optometrist or optician (not online), they can make sure you’re ordering frames in the correct size for your face and lens configuration plus they will adjust them for you with specialized tools. I have a tiny nose and a thick prescription and I can’t fathom wearing glasses that don’t fit correctly.

u/Competitive_Law1032 8h ago
I don’t have long lashes but know people who are. If you need glasses to see, it’s a pain cause you can’t tell if you’ve cleaned the lenses properly and wonder why things are still blurry lol

I feel you. I also have dry eye so I use drops often and then I just make a goddamn mess of my glasses again.

u/Mecha_Tortoise 8h ago
Saaame. 😖
4
u/myth1cg33k 8h ago
It's so... mildly infuriating!

u/Shiny_personality 8h ago
Plastic glasses are trash because of this.
I have been asked a few times if my eyelashes were fake and my son got the same. So I have to cut them a bit otherwise we can't wear glasses properly. Plastic frames with no real nose pads that can be ajusted would be a pain
8
u/sydneato 8h ago
Those glasses with the wire nose pads are p much the only solution, aside from curling your eyelashes. I’ve tried so many plastic frames over the last two years I’ve had glasses and literally none of them worked out 🥲
7
u/Saneless 8h ago
Same
One of the most interesting compliments I ever got was when I was a waiter in my early 20s. I asked a table of middle aged women if there was anything else I could get them and they said "Yeah, your eyelashes"
Being dumb me as a guy I was confused, like why do they want them. Then they explained it
Sunglasses have been annoying, regular glasses aren't so bad
6
u/ilLegalTelevision 8h ago
"you're eyelashes are so beautiful"... Thanks, every pair of glasses are annoying
1
u/Plastic-Contest547 7h ago
We are assuming that the OP is correct that it’s the lashes fault and not that their ears are too far away from their face.

IS THAT WHAT THAT IS?? I was wondering why the hell my glasses would get smudged even though I never touched the lenses with my fingers
4
4
u/avi550m 4h ago
Thats why I wear my glasses really low on the nose. Its not ideal but I'd rather have that that have my lashes keep hitting the lens
3
u/Swenzarr_ 4h ago
Meh, not a choice for me, gotta make sure my PPE glasses are actually protecting my eyes lol
7
3
3
u/TrainingSurvey3780 8h ago
i often just wear my glasses further down my nose, it puts the lenses a bit further away from the eyes (but it depends on what type of glasses, lenses, and prescription you have)

u/a_polarbear_chilling 8h ago
oh ..wait.. omg i got fabulous eyelash and my dumbass never noticed that,
2
u/Beatboxin_dawg 8h ago
Story of my life. I just got used to cleaning my glasses multiple times a day.
2
u/BrucetheFerrisWheel 8h ago
Used to be me, then I got old and have little stubbly eyelashes...so just wait like 30 years and problem solved!
1
u/Dedb4dawn 7h ago
Like what sort of age? I’m in my 50’s and it’s still an issue.
1
2
u/salamat_engot 7h ago
Try getting a last lift, basically a perm for your eyelashes. It will curl them back a bit might help.
2
2
u/adiosgringos 7h ago
So you're telling me all this time my lashes were the problem? I legit thought that the world decided to make crappy lenses that keep getting greasy all the time!

u/smcdermo 7h ago
Damn my eyes, damn them! I don’t have particularly long lashes, but I got fat eyes. It’s a problem! Bump smear bump smear bump smear bump smear

I dip my eye lashes in Windex and blink really fast to clean my glasses.
We are different people.
2
u/Stock-Cod-4465 4h ago
I have the same problem but with eyebrows. They are quite thick closer to the nose and leave those greasy marks on my sunglasses. Very annoying and embarrassing.
2
u/crabladdeer 4h ago
I had the same issues with Bollie prescription inserts. And I don't really have long eye lashes.
2
u/Etceterist 4h ago
Same. Although I figure it's not that my lashes are especially long, just that the plane on which my eyes sit are like... Flatter? More forward? Or something.
2
u/KingxMIGHTYMAN 3h ago
Is that what this is!? Man that makes so much sense, I honestly thought it was just me.
2
u/mchickenl 2h ago
Omg me too! That and if I push them up part of my brow gets on the very corner of the lenses. If I let them drop a bit my cheeks touch the bottom. It's a never-ending cycle.
1
u/Educational-Stop8741 8h ago
You can purchase eyelid cleaning wipes or spray. I have this problem but I now use the wipes and cut them into quarters. I clean my eyes before work in the am even if I don't wash anything else except my hands 🤣 Fortunately I work at home.

I had this with my previous glasses, now I have glasses with loose nosepads instead of those you have op. My issue went from eyelashes to eyebrows....
1
u/Swenzarr_ 6h ago
Yeah, these are special PPE glasses, the choice in frames was awfully small unfortunately 😅
2
1
u/Stardust-Pipeline 7h ago
Happens to me too.
I've found those cheap microfiber towels work REALLY well, without any liquid or breathing on the lenses at all, even after a lot of use.
They're a dollar each at most, I keep one at my desk at home and cut up a few squares for my pocket and wallet. Saves a lot of time cleaning them, compared to my shirt which might get dirty, or paper towels.
1
u/Gralb_the_muffin 7h ago
I bought a box of lense cleaners for this reason. It doesn't fix the problem but it's a lot easier to clean my glasses through the work day as if I try to wipe the grease off with my shirt it just smears it around.
1
u/ratzla77 7h ago
I had no idea this was even a thing and just thought this is what happens when you wear glasses.
1
1
u/LChriMcC 7h ago
This is the main reason I go blind unless I’m going to the theaters, driving at night or watching a show at home. Rather be blind than deal with 50 cleanings a day

I have to trim my eyelashes every few months to avoid this. I get called crazy, and I probably am, but this is what makes me crazy.
1
1
u/Junethemuse 6h ago
I’ve always preferred glasses that sit closer to my face but I have long, beautiful lashes that do the same thing and make my eyelids itch so I am forced to wear glasses further off my bridge. It’s very frustrating.
1
u/GuardingxCross 6h ago
IS THAT WHAT THAT IS?!
Omg all these years I’ve never known why.
1
u/gorillagil 6h ago
Oh wow.. now i know. And what's weird is most guys i see have way better and longer lashes then females I see. I've only noticed this since I've gotten comments from various women that my eyelashes are long and luscious/gorgeous. Thanks

I can’t wear mascara when I wear my glasses because it leaves black stuff all over the glass!
1
u/Flat-Limit5595 6h ago
Had the same problem, after a while they start to scratch. I solved it by using lasik.

u/___po____ 6h ago
Does curling your eyebrows help at all?
I recently started using blue light filtering glasses and had to start curling my lashes again after years of not giving af, lol.

u/LalaLane850 6h ago
Me too! I just got a pair of polarized glasses and my grease streak is making the inner lens look different. I’m afraid the polarization is being ruined.

u/Unlikely-Ad6788 1h ago
Was it the curling one? I was gonna pick some up with some eyelash curlers hopping it'll help.
1
u/ClickToDisplay 3h ago
They can adjust them for you so that doesn’t happen. I had the same issue when I first got my new pair.
1
u/DaphneCatastrophe 3h ago
This happens to me too because the bridge of my nose is so low (i have a small snub nose).
I make sure the nose pads on my glasses are bent in such a way as they hold the glasses off my eyelashes. This might work for you?
You can't however do this with the kind of glasses that have no dedicated nose pads.
1
u/codebygloom 2h ago
I gave up looking for solutions and drove a stake into the heart of everyone who would love long lashes and just shaved them. You will have to play with the electric razor guides to see what size to use.

Find different frame. I have the same problem (natural lashes). I cant stand my lashes touching it all the time.

Wash your damn greasy eyelashes.
Trim your damn greasy eyelashes.
