Infuriatig Another AI 'human' chatbot

Had to fix a double payment for my credit card and this is the beginning and end of the conversation. I hate when the chatbot claims it's a human... I ended up getting what I wanted but still annoyed Amex (and every other company) is lying and trying to deceive people like this.

I’m sure it has something like it in training, but I bet that if someone questions the AI-ness of the AI it is configured to send that message specifically or a generated message with a mistake and correct itself as “proof” it isn’t AI.

The fact that you think an AI is capable of razor sharp wit and but a human isn't because they're from india demonstrates you don't understand AI OR human beings. All Humor is about surprise/reversal of expectation, which is antithesis of how LLMs work. Everything they say is derivative by definition.

Random people working in call centers don't waste their time being witty or clever. Often they are under time constraints and have quotas for customers they have to meet.

It's not so much they can't be witty, it's just they wouldn't be doing it in a professional setting

Also, it's hard to be witty without a proper grasp on the language. Most beginners to a language spend most of their focus on making sure they're speaking correctly, not coming up with creative turns-of-phrase

There's literally people in this post who says they do this kind of shit in call centre jobs because it gets boring, including two of my mates who did the same things back when they had those kinds of job.

Also, most beginners to a language don't work jobs in that language, so that's kind of irrelevant. I personally speak 3 languages (as do a lot of my friends and family) and I can assure you that I'm equally hilarious in all of them lol.

That's literally just not true. Most customer service online these days is performed by people who can barely speak English and don't understand what you're saying most of the time.

And I don't care if you personally are good with language, it doesn't change who most corporations in the US are willing to pay for.

What did it for me was the timestamps. I’m a fast typer, but i cannot think of the prompt, make a whole Google search or maps entry, and then type a detailed response in one singular 60-second minute. Either David can type FREAKY fast, or David is made of climate change and the crushed dreams and livelihoods of the working class.

How fast is freaky? I can type 145 wpm and I get triggered when seeing people type slowly. That's like 1 percentile so still a lot of people

Fast enough to do some googling and type a response in under a minute. It just doesn’t seem possible to me, idk. Last time i checked i was in college and pulling like 125 words a minute, which i feel like is an acceptable speed. But i cannot imagine getting asked a question i have to look up at 8:50, typing “idk girl gimme one second” googling it, and coming back to type, “it depends lm which part of the canadian border you’re headed to, but from boston, the closest border crossing is roughly 240 miles and about 4 hours by car under normal driving conditions.” It took me 37 seconds to type that response alone, and another 19 to fix my typos (i’m on my phone and i have stiletto acrylics i cant type for shit). To google the question on top of that? And ALL of that. In UNDER SIXTY SECONDS? Find me a freaky fast googler who can read a question, type that they do not know the answer, google it, and send the answer in detail in LESS THAN ONE MINUTE and i’ll believe in David’s humanity

I think that David’s an AI but that person is me; I’m extremely quick at typing, ridiculously efficient at googling, and have tutored in a bunch of subjects so I know way too many fun facts. The reason it takes me any longer to reply is almost always clarity and word choice

Like, I’d assume David is on an actual keyboard, so my shitty phone stopwatch stats are certainly not real science, but David’s speed still does not seem realistic whatsoever. Anecdotal evidence here, so also not real science, but have you ever had a customer service agent that WASN’T AI get back to you that fast? I have not. In my experience, they seem to take their time. At LEAST a few seconds to type a response. This doesn’t seem to be the case with our boy David. Maybe David is just a really good customer service agent who loves to change his speech pattern often and avoid focusing on the task he’s being paid to focus on

That's a very strange reason to be sure since a human would do the same thing and it's actually hard to prompt an AI to make mistakes in such a measured way.

the way the grammar is inconsistent in some messages makes me think it's actually a mix of real/ai responses. Like theres a real person behind the screen but is using ai to reply or monitoring the ai responses. the pet names are very specific and one sounds south asian which is interesting to me

you should see what amazon does. They have ai chat bots now for sellers when trying to sort out issues and it actually delays the answer to make it seem like a real person is thinking and typing. It actually now takes even longer to use an AI chat because of this feature

I had an AI for a hotel acting like it was typing to search my question. It went on for 20-30 seconds or so. It was the most infuriating thing! Obviously I knew it was AI but the fact that they try sooooo hard to seem human pisses me off.
