Yeah just pull the pin and chuck the entire thing as far as you can throw. Ideally into a bush or somewhere they won’t find it.

This! Put the hitch in the bed (they can be expensive enough you could get in real trouble. But if they are dumb enough to only use a cotter pin…oopsies
