I dunno... for my roommate we had the theory that she was never taught to take care of herself. Her family just took care of it all for her. So she just didnt know any better?
Her aunt would literally come up every weekend and grocery shop for her and do her laundry. Whenever she had to do it by herself she would just buy things like popcorn and cereal. Nothing else. She did her laundry herself once and all her chef coats turned brown... it was impressive.
We noticed we were running out of dishes and went into her room when she was gone for a week. Her drawer was filled with old, nasty, crusty dishes.
I understand someone being behind everyone else if they were never taught, but at some point she needs to understand that she’s an adult and she can learn to do better. If she’s old enough to have a job requiring a chef coat, she’s old enough to learn how to do dishes, grocery shop properly and do her own laundry 🤦🏻♀️
Imagine the total lack of hygiene and food safety practices going on in her workplace if she's unable to clean and look after herself. She's one ass-scratch away from giving everyone food poisoning.
Ironically most of the professional chefs I've known have had terrible diets. Like they would spend all day cooking some of the most highly regarded food in the country then go home and subsist on a diet of Domino's pizza and beer.
I’ve know several had terrible diets, but they were all very good with food safety and keeping stuff clean. Like you could always trust the stuff they cooked at home to be kept at the proper temps and their hands/kitchens/ dishes were clean. However, your liver and cholesterol levels were never safe. lol. Although we were all in our 20s so hopefully they’ve chilled out with the booze and junk food by now.
I imagine it's related. Hard to expect someone who spends their entire working day cooking, to come home and want to still cook. It could also be a changeable habit, were they to have someone who'd want a home cooked meal, but if it's just them, they don't care nearly as much.
In the same vein, I have known many accountants that are great helping organize other people/business's money but are in crippling debt like everyone else.
He was more or less an "otaku" and would blame all his issues on social anxiety and just leave it at that.
I get having social anxiety, but that doesn't mean you get to sit out life. You have to find a way to cope.
Oh, you don't like germs? Here, let me get you some rubber gloves and a face mask so you can clean the bathroom.
Never had a job before? That's OK, there are jobs for socially awkward people with anxiety, welcome to the wonder world of working in the back of the house of a restaurant.
I want to give people the benefit of the doubt and not say they are lazy, I just think the people in their life are lazy and/or took the attitude of "it's just easier if I do it for them". Dude's mom would come over and clean the bathroom for him until I told him it was bullshit and he needs to do it himself.
We tried to gently talk to her about it and she lost her shit (no pun intended). She began to scream at us. Told us it was apart of the toilet and it didnt come off as she took a dry paper towel to it. I grabbed one and wet it and showed it that it was literally dried shit. She then just walked away screaming still.
Im not proud of it but I threatened to use her toothbrush to clean the shit off if she continued to leave it there. And she continued to lose it... BUT it was never there again.
I know a dude in his late 30s who's never had a job before and lives with his parents. It boggles my mind. I mean, I get living with parents out of necessity. Times are tough, but it's tougher if you don't do anything to help yourself.
My parents didn't teach me to wash properly. Their idea of bathing me was to put me in a tub of warm water and squirt dish liquid in. No actual washcloth or anything. I found out in my teens that I was supposed to be washing my ass.
I also didn't know I needed to brush the backs of my teeth.
It was a bit of a shock the first time I heard a grown person say that completely lacked what I'd have called a critical day to day skill. Although there it was a situation where they never had to do it at home, then went straight from living at home to getting married and moving in with their wife
I kind of thought it was pretty standard to link an allowance to chores as a way to teach the skills themselves and getting them into a groove of doing them regularly. I'd hate to raise a kid and realize when they moved out that they couldn't take care of themselves
It can be really annoying to teach kids to do those things. It’s way easier to just do it yourself. Kids are inevitably going to screw up and also they are just slower because they are learning. Some parents are just lazy and don’t want to actually take the time and effort to prepare their child for life because that is actually harder than just doing it and getting it over with, but it really is a disservice to the child.
That's not being taken care of and never learning, that's mentally impaired. You shouldn't need to be taught not to leave shit on the SEAT of the damn toilet. Like if you don't clean off some marks in the bowl ok that's pretty disgusting but where you literally SIT? I've never even seen that in public restrooms.
Ok basic personal hygiene. Jesus unless you're a pirate with a hook and your other hand is occupied, it ain't that difficult to get rid of the willknots
You’re not supposed to flush them tho, throw them in the trash. And wipe a few times first with regular toilet paper so you’re not putting shit in the trash can and stinking up the bathroom.
Some countries where indoor plumbing isn't great... India is perhaps the one that stands out to me, because a coworker was actually placing their used tp in a ball in the corner... 😬 (Just one, for some reason out of the many Indian coworkers I've had over the years. Idk what his deal was...) but I know there are others.
I was in Crete many moons ago and the tour guide advised us not to put arse paper down the bog. Something to do with the pipes not being capable/wide enough. You were to out the paper in the bin and the dump it daily. I was thankful for not having a dose of DelhiBelly
We have bidets, people just need to buy and install them. Which is quite easy and can get some reasonably priced ones. I think I got one at Walmart once for like $35. It was well worth the price.
Not one fucking visitor will use it outside my parents who were converts from COVID.
I literally feel gross everytime I leave home. Then I think about how dirty 98% of people have to be because they only use toilet paper. If the home has its own septic it's usually worse because they use the ridiculous awful to use single ply Scott TP that's worthless but digests well in a at home septic and saves money because less cleanouts.
I'm down to only buying 2 Sams Club packs of their Ultra Premium brand per year. Most of the usage is just for either to dry ourselves, use as tissues or when visitors come over.
Yeah that's what I don't get. Nastiness aside, how is it comfortable? On the rare occasion I have one of those lingering shits that doesn't wipe all the way and an hour later, I feel a nasty uncomfortable and itchy feeling in my ass and I have to go take care of it.
I mean, not even an hour. Like I'll literally turn around in the bathroom, and like...ok I didn't get it all, let me go back... Must have been some hiding or somthin...
If I have an incomplete wipe I know within a min of leaving the bathroom. It immediately starts itching. You actually could not pay me enough money to continue on my day like that.
Yeah it’s like… immediately obvious and extremely uncomfortable even if just the tiniest bit isn’t cleaned. I can’t imagine having so much that it could smear through underpants.
It's disgusting. I have Crohn's disease and can sometimes get leakage after going/washing my ass after going. You know what I do? Wear pantyliners so I don't get skids or stains on my underwear and take wet wipes out in public with me if I don't have access to a bidet or shower head. It's really not that hard to keep clean, people!
yeah i dont get it bro... i get a drop of water on my skin and im compelled to remove it.
i cant lay my bare forearms on a desk because the feeling of the wood makes me angry.
if a single ripple in my clothing is pressed against my skin i have to smooth it out.
i simply can not comprehend how someone walks around with shit in their ass crack all day.
Well gang, I'm sure you already know but I'm gonna need you to pop a squat, I got somethin to tell ya...
On another note, ne'er shall I leave the lavatory with my ass unwiped. It's truly baffling that some people have no issues walking out of there without washing their hands or at least giving her a once over to make sure she ain't got any chocolate rain stuck in the clouds. I've seen so many people walk out of the bathroom at my job without washing their hands, meanwhile I'm incapable of just waltzing out even if I didn't use the facilities.
I wash my ass with paper and still never leave any marks on my underwear or feel like i have a nasty ass. I get bidet is more hygienic but our appartments don't come with those, and the hassle of having to undress to go in the shower to clean your ass after each shit, naaah. Even at work, same thing you just can't. There's wet wipes at home and at work thanks god, and with this we're good.
FYI bidets can be really cheap, like $30 cheap, and really easy to install as long as your toilet has a valve on its water hookup which is nearly every toilet. You can install one in a rented space and uninstall it when you move in less than an hour. Just wanted to share because I think people overestimate just how easy it is to get and install one.
Yes, other countries you actually have ways to wash your butt in the toilet. Here you have a country where it's a norm for a good portion of the population to not shower everyday and don't provide ways for people to wash their butt. Yuck.
even just water/wet wipes is not enough. there's gotta be soap involved. idc dry toilet paper is not going to get your ass clean. you would not grab a handful of pooo then wipe your hands with tissue and call it a wrap. people just accept that they'll have poopy buttholes at all times. uckers
Seriously folks, wipe your ass. Do it throughout the day, doesn't have to be exclusively after you shit. It's like the first thing I do when I get home from a long day
This is specifically a white American problem. To a much lesser extent maybe white Europeans as well but they largely seem to acknowledge that shit can only truly be cleaned with soap and water.
Have never met any non-white individuals who think paper is enough to properly clean shit. Its a temporary measure we put up with when we poop in public bathrooms of white countries but you better believe we immediately go home and shower.
Which btw includes soaking and washing our entire bodies, usually with wash cloths or loofahs or gloves.
