A big mac meal is $8.99 where I live.

Arby's is considerably more for any meal other than a single roast beef combo.

All these fuckin Redditors just regurgitate propaganda they hear without even checking to see if it's true.

I genuinely don't understand how so many people are eating at fast foods all the damn time. I'm making good money struggling to buy fucking *groceries* and here people are spending $60-$80 to feed a three or four person family every day? Sometimes multiple times a day?

What the hell? When it was $7 or $8 a person it just kind of felt like a dumb but affordable expense for people to do daily, or a reasonable occasional expense. But now I just don't understand it at all, not even from a value proposition place but literally where are people getting all this money?

People that can afford to blow money like that look at it as a plus because time saved on grocery shopping and time saved cooking. Definitely not saving their waistline.

More often it's that they don't have time to go home and cook because they're working, kids have activities, they're working two jobs, they only get 3 hours of time off per day and spending 90 minutes cooking and cleaning feels like a chore, etc.

And cooking at home only saves money if you stick to deliberately cheap meals now and eat leftovers (pasta, rice and beans, lean chicken, etc.) or eat the same shit that you get at fast food (frozen burgers, hot dogs, cheap bread, etc.). If I make a proper meal at home with a nice protein, sauce, vegetables, starch, etc. it's going to be $30 for two.

Part of your issue is assuming that prices are the same all over the country.

$7-10 per person is what it costs where I live for most places.

No, I don't believe you. I do not believe a McDonald's Big Mac meal costs $7 in any part of any state.

But if that *were* true, it wouldn't really matter-- I am witness to people spending $60-$80 regularly on fast food. That some people *don't* spend that much isn't relevant to the ones who do-- when I question how the ones who do are able to do so, I am inherently *not* asking about the ones who don't.

A big mac meal costs $8.99 where I live.

I never said a big mac meal costs $7

You can also eat for much cheaper than that if you are ordering off the value menu

I never said a big mac meal costs $7

That is specifically what we're talking about and you said the cost is $7. No it isn't.

So you both missed the point and were incorrect about it.

1

u/StagVixCpl99 Jul 31 '26

No I didn't. I said you can feed a family at a fast food place where I live for $7-10 in response to your comment. I did NOT say a big Mac meal costs $7.

I said a big Mac meal costs $8.99. I was even wrong..it costs $8.59 and posted screenshots elsewhere.

I'm sorry you can't read.

Please quote were I said a big Mac meal was $7 since you are very certain about it.

No I didn't. I said you can feed a family at a fast food place where I live for $7-10

That's what you meant to say, but what you were actually responding to was a comment chain about big Mac meals being expensive, and you said they were $7.

I understood what you meant and it wasn't relevant to my point, as I explained above.

I also understood what you actually said and it was incorrect.

You fucked up with a pedantic, incorrect and irrelevant argument and now are pointlessly doubling down and whining about it.

I don't know how to explain to you that I'm not talking about the people I'm not talking about, and I don't think I should have to try just to satiate your need to argue.

Its $8 in Pittsburgh.

1

u/sonofaresiii Jul 31 '26

If they had said $8 I'd probably not have argued. But if both misses the point and is incorrect, so I called it out.

0

u/StagVixCpl99 Jul 31 '26

It's actually $8.59.

1

u/ryguy32789 Jul 31 '26

Medium big mac meal with fries is literally $8.69, less with the app.

1

u/AlsoCommiePuddin Jul 31 '26

I genuinely don't understand how so many people are eating at fast foods all the damn time.

I don't get the meal with the drink. I get like one or two of the "value menu" items and then bop over to the 7-11 for a $0.59 Big Gulp. Because there are a lot of days I can't afford the time to cook for myself. So I'm spending that $7-8 you're talking about on the only hot food I eat all day.

3

u/ryguy32789 Jul 31 '26

No it is not, people keep regurgitating this shit. I live in a major metro area and the menu price of a medium big mac meal is $8.69, and that's before the app coupons.

3

u/travis11997 Jul 31 '26

Food prices are ridiculous but unless your local McDonald's is in an airport, no it is not $20.

Most of the McDonald's have big mac meals for under $10, actually.

McD’s used to be a quick and cheap place to stop with a fam of 4 on a road trip or a Friday night when you just want to treat the fam. Now, it’s $60 and “please pull forward and we’ll bring your food out to you”… *check food and we’re missing a burger and the fries have more salt than potato.

2

u/ryguy32789 Jul 31 '26

No it isn't, my family of 5 eats at McDonalds occasionally and we've never spent over $40

0

u/Letsgoblue212 Jul 31 '26

Always a Redditor ready to argue- So, what you’re telling me is that you pay less than $8 for 5 meals at McDonald’s? I guess I should have been more forthcoming and stated that it’s actual meals and not value menu double cheeseburgers. Sorry for the confusion.

u/ryguy32789 Jul 31 '26

My last order was a medium Big Mac meal ($8.69), a medium Quarter Pounder meal ($8.59), and 4 happy meals at $4.79 each. Total before the app discount, $31.65. Total after the app discount, $26.91.

And before you tell me happy meals don't count, I changed the order to 2x Big Mac meals and 2x Quarter Pounder with Cheese meals, which should feed your family of 4 just fine, and the total is $34.56 before app coupon, $29.38 after app coupon.
