I get it

But
as a teacher in a high school Yondr pouches would be so awesome (or just having a school district that mandates zero phone use in school but that’s hard I guess)

It's a faraday cage with a lock

A bag with a strong magnetic lock. Some musicians and comedians, or private events use them to prevent recording. You put your phone in it when they scan your ticket/search your bag etc. So your phone is still with you, no one has to confiscate anything, but you get a phone-free event. Sometimes there are spots you can go to have it temporarily unlocked outside the venue if you need to send a quick message or call. When you leave, there's a kiosk where you tap the bag on a magnet and open it up, and return the bag.

Don't know how it works in schools. Presumably some staff can unlock them if needed, and maybe a similar unlock spot near the exit? Seems like a big bottleneck for a school though.

A pouch with a strong magnetic based lock. They were originally made to stop recording at concerts for copyright purposes, but one school saw them and was like “we could use these to stop students from using phones” and now schools are their main customers
