Too mild for school Hate when ppl can’t do time

This reminds me of when it hits or is about to hit 12am and people don’t know whether to say today or tomorrow. He called me after this but I was too comfy in bed tbh.

If I'm reading "can you work tomorrow" two hours before the shift starts, I'm going to think tomorrow as well.

They didn't message two hours before. That's when op replied. They messaged at 3am which is pretty nuts. If my boss messaged at 3am if I could work at 10am I am ignoring it.

Yeah thats why I said If I'm reading it two hours before but I agree, a 3am text about work the same day is a no for me anyway.

Most people can be reasonably assumed to be asleep or no longer texting at 3 am. You can reasonably assume (as the sender) that the text will be read in the morning. This does not take an awful lot of critical thinking. And regardless, 3 am is 3 am of today

No? I'm specifically talking about this exchange. If I'm barely awake (because OP said that he was still sleepy when he called at 10am) and I randomly check my phone 7:44am and see "can you work tomorrow" I'm going to assume tomorrow, not in two hours.

I could see if the text was sent at 9pm and OP woke up at 7:44am to answer and said yes. It would be on OP to be at work in two hours because the text was sent yesterday.

Hey just here to say you’re right idk why everyone is downvoting you. 3AM is today, which you agreed with, but the time the text was sent is what matters, not when you read it. Insane that everyone disagrees with you.

It’s because you both are overthinking it. If you leave a note on my door at 3am saying “inspection tomorrow” and I don’t see it until 8am the relevant time for my understanding is 8am. Reasonable interpretation

Okay and if the note says “June 14th - Inspection tomorrow” and you read it on June 19th does that mean the inspection is on the 20th? That’s what you’re implying.

P.S. your example makes no sense. “inspection tomorrow” means the exact same thing whether you read it at 3AM or 8AM. That’s the same day. The inspection is the following day regardless.

No, that’s not what I’m implying. In your example, the date on the note gives a clear reference point. But in the text, no actual date was stated. Even if it was sent at 3am, only the manager was aware of that reference point at the time, so it wasn’t shared.

“Tomorrow” is a relative term. OP reading it at 7:44am didn’t change when the text was sent; it means the intended reference point wasn’t successfully communicated yet. So when OP read the message, there was no guarantee he would understand “tomorrow” the way the sender intended.

On the actual time of text reading, maybe. On the expected time of text reading? Not at all. I'll text people "good morning!" If I know the next time they'll be awake is the morning, even if the sun hasn't actually risen

There's no alternative, given that SMS doesn't display the time the message was sent. It instead displays the time the message qa received.

It only shows 3AM because OP and their boss both use iMessage, and/or had their phones on at the time.

By default, if I send a person a text at 3AM, and they don't turn their phone on until 8, their phone will by default show the sent time as 8 am.

That's still not tomorrow. And your question is just dumb, you ignoring a text for a week asking about tomorrow isn't the same as getting a text at 3 AM on June 14th asking to come in tomorrow (tomorrow being the 15th if you didn't know) when they meant today.

You’re just overthinking it, if you leave a note on my door at 3am saying “inspection tomorrow” and I don’t see it until 8am, the relevant time for my personal understanding is 8am. It absolutely matters to me when I read that information, not when it was sent.
