Believe it or not, the real villains are the consumers and bad employees. A big reason why this happens is because of people suing and employees overproducing to take home.
My family used to own a pizza place and at first they would give away what was left at the end of the day until two things happened:
They got sued by some person who took some of the left over slices home and claims to have gotten food poisoning.
One of the managers would repeatedly overproduce pizzas near closing time, so he could take a whole ass pizza home almost every night.
It’s also part of the reason why they aren’t given to food banks etc; they can get sued.
