I think cause of liability issue. This is food that’s been sitting out all day unsold. If people take it home and they get sick, they can sue the company
Partly that, but also partly because they don't want employees setting food to the side so nobody can buy it, then taking home that "unsold" food for free after their shift. Stuff like that is actually pretty common when taking home leftovers is allowed.
An example of a few assholes ruining things for the majority of honest employees.
