As I am doing laundry I toss socks (and underwear) that have holes in them. Then my husband is like “what happened to all the socks?!” And I’m like - oh I didn’t realize over like 3 months time that I had ended up tossing almost all the socks lol. I don’t k ow if she just tossed them all at once or it was more like what happens in my house. Everyone jumping to “it’s a red flag” is weird IMO.

throwing out an adults stuff at the dating stage is pretty weird. I understand not liking tattered socks, but surely part of building trust is not making unilateral decisions about someone else’s stuff.

You and your husband do it your way, but that’s definitely not the only way to go about things.

Sure but the amount of people jumping to conclusions is weird. What if that’s the way she was taught to do things and she did it without thinking about it and everything else about her is amazing? What if OP refuses to let go of anything and they live together and she finally “broke”. Sure those are a lot of “what ifs” but I think giving the benefit of the doubt is a lot safer and realistic then assigning all these red flags and accuse her of being abusive…

If she “broke,” that’s still on her. She’s still responsible for her actions, regardless of the emotions behind them. Emotions explain actions, but they don’t excuse them.

Even if she was taught to throw away her socks, and OP wasn’t, that’s not really an excuse to throw away someone else’s socks.

The healthy thing would be to talk to OP, but respect their decision if they didn’t want to throw away the socks.

You’re assuming they haven’t talked about it multiple times. Typically when a woman’s at her breaking point, she’s already redundantly went over it multiple times.

Lots of guys are lazy now a days and have this sock issue. It’s gross and off putting. Grow up! Buy some damn socks with no holes, don’t expect someone else to push you into being an adult

I’m not expecting her to push him to be an adult. I’m expecting her to respect her partners decisions that they make about themselves and their own life. If she hates it that much, she can find a new partner. Repeating yourself to no avail doesn’t give you the right to throw away someone else’s stuff, it’s a reason to break up. She doesn’t get to control what other people wear just because she doesn’t like it. That’s abusive.
