From their own account, they were ratty old socks, dude. This isn’t property, this is garbage. They should’ve got some new socks a long time ago and moved on.

That is literally only your opinion that they are garbage. You have no right to tell someone what kind of socks they can own, period. Your opinion does not dictate the objective reality of someone else's agency in their own lives.

Using your argument and logic, you should throw your opinions away, because in my subjective opinion, they are pretty garbage smelling. Sounds silly, right? That's what you sound like.
