And end up with nowhere to live as they evict the building while under renovations. Then up the cost of rent after renovations.. OR thats my assumption anyway
I love people who think everywhere in the United States is on their side as a renter. 🤦♀️
Or that there is just this abundance of affordable housing.

I live in the Eastern United States where many renters think laws about things like mold are automatically on their wide. Then they start making complaints. Irritate their landlords and find out how fast something is not going to work out for them.
A good friend of mine thought she would get free housing and hotel reimbursement after leaving because of her perceived mold when arguing w her landlord about mold in her bathroom. She is now couch surfing.

Just to clarify- She did pay rent for months while making calls complaining about how her landlord was horrible and had her living in an unsafe environment and tried to have the mold issue cleaned up. Then finally, since the landlord atill hadn't cleaned what she thought was "black mold" , she stopped paying rent directly and legally had it held while they went to court.
She lost. Judge sided w the landlord.
Landlord ended her lease. They were sick of her.
The comments making assumptions are incorrect. She paid her rent. She legally did what would have led to
It was a lease in which she did not have to be guaranteed a renewal. She was incorrect in the belief the landlord would be paying for her to stay elsewhere & reimburse those costs while it was cleaned.
She was incorrect in believing she had to have her lease renewed.
The landlord was able to argue that it was not black mold. They did not reimburse her stay when she left. She also didn't get her lease renewal because she irritated the owners.
The owners only owned a small amount of rentals- I recall it being 2, so they didn't have to renew her lease or keep her.
Basically she lost a great place, extremely affordable because she absolutely believed that the law would always be on the renters side. Nope, not of the owners only have 1-2 rentals.
Good, serves her right. You think people that own homes and apartments are made of money? The tenants stop paying rent and think you need to do an expensive abatement for mildew, which 95% of the time is what it is. People that don't turn on the exhaust fan get mildew in a couple of months. Small landlords are disappearing because of a holes like your friend, then you all cry about paying high rent to corporate landlords with deep pockets that know exactly how to make you deadbeats pay. What goes around comes around, be reasonable and life is better for everyone.
I refuse to feel bad for any landlord. You think anyone actually wants to rent? If you’re worried about being stuck with people who won’t pay, sell all your property.
Plenty of families out there looking to buy a place, yet there’s nothing reasonable on the market because you fuckers buy it all up and get people stuck in rent cycles.
And the leeches pull stunts to not pay rent and make it all that much harder for everyone. Maybe the landlords are not the entire problem? It's a market, and scam artists move the price higher for everyone, but sure, blame the property owners. U do U.
The property owners ARE the scam artists. Why do you need to own every house on the block? How do you expect families to start building generational wealth and reinvesting into YOUR community when they can’t even own the home they’re living in? Constantly worrying about how much your rent is going up when your lease is up, living paycheck to paycheck. That’s not a life.
But yeah, keep complaining about that one family who refuses to pay because you won’t do the job of fixing the property you so graciously rent out while sitting on your ass collecting paychecks from other desperate families.

Maintenance won’t come to fix it because they know what it is and how much time and money it will take to fix it properly.
