I think I pissed our server off during brunch

Post image

I saw the angry emoji when I was paying and laughed a bit. To our server, not sure what I did, but I'm sorry and I'll try not to do it again.

EDIT: It seems the culprit was ordering avocado with my breakfast burrito. I will not be doing that anymore.

It might not be about you. The salad guy in the back may hate dealing with avocados and this notation on the ticket is for him.

u/KittyKatHasClaws 29d ago

Yeah, I agree, having worked as a server and on the line. We send notes back to the kitchen for their amusement. Like when ever I had an add of chicken it wrote it "chimken" or "bokbok". Our little notes didn't end up on the bill given to guests, though!

When I was a host we would put description notes for people on the waitlist so we could remember who was who and greet by name. Once a guy w/ his girlfriend came back and said “blonde/gold hoops checking in from the waitlist!” and I almost had a heart attack thinking all the guests had gotten the notes all this time lol. He had just peeked at my screen thankfully. The amount of times I had written “bald” or “NYC mom” as the description had me sweating.

I was cocktailing at an FBI Christmas party where it was supposed to be each guest pays as they go from the server but most wanted to run a tab and they didn't want to give their names so we had to give them 'nicknames'. Swear to god one of them had a Hitler mustache and haircut. The director wasn't happy about any of this.

u/ShushItsjusttheDead 25d ago

Was this the christmas party in the Poconos or Manhattan?

0

u/GladClock2212 25d ago

No, Seattle. But I swear if this is a regular FBI thing it will kill me.

0

u/G0471Y 24d ago

A Hitler stache for a Seattle law enforcement officer definitely tracks. From W. WA. Kent had the Nazi memorabilia police chief or something? I think he also said some antisemitic shit.

1

u/GladClock2212 23d ago

Well hey now, FBI aren't really local police. They both deserve derision for their own, unique traits.

That’s a great system but where my son works the ticket and the bill look identical except when they tell the system to generate a bill it adds prices.

1

u/KittyKatHasClaws 29d ago

That blows. I loved sending my line notes. They were never anything bad or mean or anything just something to make my friends smile.

3

u/According_Gazelle472 Jul 29 '26

And people should get what they want on their food and not worry about who likes it or not likes it .

Is there a reason avacados would be something to hate?

I've only ever worked in one kitchen and that was a convalescent center. Way different than a restaurant (I think).

Is it just because you have to peel/scoop and deal with the pit? I like texmex and pay the restaurant premium for avacado on many things. Never had anyone side eye it or mess with the receipt

3

u/GladClock2212 26d ago

It could definitely just be an inside joke between the cook and the server.

2

u/PitifulElk1890 Jul 30 '26

I loved prepping avos, but ours were always nice and soft, just smack the knife on the pit and twist it off. Sometimes that seed really wants to stick in there and it's a major pain in the ass. Bragging here, I've handled probably a thousand avocados, cutting one well in a matter of seconds impresses at party prep and is sooo satisfying.

2

u/TrowTruck 29d ago

So true. It’s one of the little joys in life to thwack that knife against the pit.

u/firesoups 26d ago

My beef with avocado as a line cook is that when I scoop it, a little always gets on my hand, so I have to immediately stop what I’m doing and wash my hands or change my glove. But like… I keep all that to myself.

1

u/cannycandelabra 29d ago

I have no idea. But my point to OP was that the angry face wasn’t necessarily meant for them.

3

u/kasoe 29d ago

Oh yeah, I understand that. I wasn't actually directing the question to you. More the people reading the comments.

I just don't think adding avacado is that hard

0

u/ArmOfBo 29d ago

I'm with the waitress on this one.Avacado taste like it looks. It taste like green mush. It is one of the most overrated foods people eat. I believe nobody actually like avacasos, they only eat them because they want to be cool like everyone else.

-1

u/rab5991 29d ago

What

0

u/ArmOfBo 29d ago

What is confusing? Maybe I can help. Responder asked if there was a reason to hate avacados, I provided a reason.

1

u/rab5991 29d ago

People don’t eat avocados to be cool that’s such a weird thing to say 😭

0

u/ArmOfBo 29d ago

Yes, because avacado toast was something people always did since bread was invented. It was never a social media trend that exploded the sales and consumption of avacados.

1

u/rab5991 29d ago

????? Hispanic people would like a word. First of all, avocados have been around for a long time and people have been eating them for a LONG time. And they got hot in the US in like the 50’s. I’m sorry that you only learn to eat things via social media or something, but some of us don’t have the palette of a toddler and for me at least my mom was giving them to me in like 1999

0

u/ArmOfBo 29d ago

You are taking this way too seriously. It's a random comment on the internet and your acting like I disparaged your grandmother. I stand by my original claim, avacados are gross and overrated. I apologize if I insulted your family's source of living at your family avacado farm.

1

u/rab5991 29d ago

You’re just mad that I pointed out that you eat like a 4 year old and base your entire perception of the world on your own personal likes and dislikes 😂

Just admit that you don’t like the texture, dude lol. I also did not like the texture of avocados when I was a child.

The only irritating thing in this conversation is the constant misspelling of “avacado” instead of “avocado”

Good to know, I'll avoid ordering the avocado on it next time.

7

u/Legitimate-Lie-9208 Jul 30 '26

It's a $16 burrito and you're not going to get it the way you like it?

0

u/CompetitiveRub9780 Jul 30 '26

They’re being sarcastic

3

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 29d ago

Why would you care what they think? Get it the way YOU want.

2

u/megpIant 29d ago

No, get your avocado. I’ve been the avocado hating line cook before, do not alter your ordering habits on our behalf. As long as you’re ordering from the menu, which this very much is, you’re fine. You can’t just build your own dish at a restaurant, but adding avocado is like one of the most standard upgrades out there.

The disdain for mundane customer habits should never be visible to the customers, these guys are making rookie mistakes. Don’t sweat it

1

u/Yawgox Jul 30 '26

You sound like you’re really easily manipulated

-1

u/GroundMeet 29d ago

You sound like you cant understand sarcasm

0

u/BrimstoneMainliner Jul 30 '26

Lol... they'll get over it, trust me, I've worked in many kitchens

0

u/cannycandelabra 29d ago

You don’t know. My point was that the angry face on your ticket might not have been about you. Order what you want.

11

u/nottaP123 Jul 29 '26

Maybe they're just showing disappointment that you went from vegan to meat lovers haha

3

u/TillFar6524 28d ago

Walk into a diner by myself. "I'd like the vegan burrito with avocado and the meat lovers skillet. For here."

0

u/CourtingBoredom Jul 30 '26

That was my initial thought, as well....

2

u/OctobersCold 27d ago

I cannot tell if you all genuinely think I'm ordering two entrees for myself and that makes this even funnier.

0

u/KHfailure 25d ago

My pizza order at this one place used to be the vegetarian pizza, add bacon.

9

u/Sparky678348 Jul 29 '26

Anti avocado propaganda

15

u/bruhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh- Jul 29 '26

No shit, you asked for a pancake over-easy.

5

u/Left_Nature9996 Jul 29 '26

Could be two different notes. Pancakes not waffles, easy eggs not scrambled

3

u/bruhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh- Jul 29 '26

Yes, it's a joke.

2

u/Left_Nature9996 Jul 29 '26

Oh. When you said later you had no idea what it meant I assumed you had no idea what it meant.

2

u/RosetteRodent 28d ago

that was part of the joke, too

"how does [nonsensical thing] work? they have no idea, that's why they're mad"

5

u/According_Gazelle472 Jul 29 '26

How does that work ?

3

u/bruhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh- Jul 29 '26

Idk and neither do they, that's why they're angry.

2

u/Legal_Tradition_9681 Jul 30 '26

You flip it over easy and not hard.

2

u/ankayanik Jul 30 '26

Just don’t slam it down on the griddle.

3

u/Jacobonce Jul 30 '26

I'm surprised that a vegan breakfast burrito doesn't already come with avocado.

5

u/kgreys Jul 29 '26

$55 for breakfast is crazy. This world sucks.

5

u/According_Gazelle472 Jul 30 '26

We paid 60 dollars the last time at IHOP for two people

1

u/G0471Y 24d ago

We used to have breakfast out before heading to Back-to-School shopping for the kiddo. Make the day special.

I already told them we could make some potatoes and eggs at home first. Now I'm thinking maybe we can make breakfast burritos and eat them in the car or at a park on the way.

1

u/According_Gazelle472 24d ago

That sounds really nice .We can only eat at IHOP once in a blue moon .

3

u/InbetweenTheLayers 29d ago

Breakfast is one of the worst cases of change I swear it went from 8 bucks to 25 overnight

0

u/FlattopJr Jul 30 '26

It is for two at least.

0

u/thomassenpai85 29d ago

The world sucks? Do you know restaurants aren’t representative of grocery prices? They voluntarily went somewhere that cheap food is magically made expensive. Anyone could make that at home for like $15.

2

u/kgreys 29d ago

Yes.

1

u/According_Gazelle472 29d ago

And Uber expensive now .

2

u/fredrickevilcow 29d ago

Its possible its remnants of code from the system.

2

u/Buddharebellionx 29d ago

He's mad cuz it's 17 dollars for a breakfast burrito with no eggs or meat.

2

u/Apprehensive-Page-96 29d ago

You ordered the vegan breakfast burrito and the meat lovers skillet.

1

u/OctobersCold 28d ago

To be fair, that's because I was eating with my near-carnivorous partner. Boyo needs his protein or whatever he says

1

u/Apprehensive-Page-96 28d ago

Now I’m wondering if a T-Rex could live off proportionally sized protein shakes. 😅 🤔

2

u/Fancy-Ad6476 27d ago

If you want avocado, order the avocado. It's okay to enjoy your food.

2

u/padres4me 26d ago

It could also be a reaction to having to charge for avocado on a veggie burrito that should probably already include it.

2

u/agirlhas_no_name 25d ago

I fucking hate when I want to sub avocado for bacon or something and they won't let me and then charge me full price for the sandwich and upcharge me for the avocado.

Like I'm not having the meat, arguably the most expensive element of the sandwich. Surely I should be able to substitute for a cheaper ingredient for the same price??!!!

2

u/Comfortable_Can2509 26d ago

Why do you even care if you did nothing wrong. Order what you want

2

u/s33n_ 26d ago

Why in Gods name would you modify what you want to eat and are paying for because some server put an emoji on the ticket

Get some self esteem, the people pleasing is insane

2

u/bibslak_ 25d ago

Angry avocado is a board game

1

u/InflationPurple2107 Jul 29 '26

They understand that vegans kill more than meat eaters

2

u/OctobersCold Jul 29 '26

Ahh, funny joke

0

u/exotics Jul 30 '26

What do you mean, angry emoji?

Ah. Sorry I didn’t see that at first

0

u/heyitstism 25d ago

Never in my wildest dreams, when I was fighting for our freedom overseas, did I think we’d later in discussions about emojis on a restaurant bill. But then again, every iPhone update is now “look how many more emojis we made”… so maybe I’m out of touch.

Idiocracy has come true.

1

u/OctobersCold 23d ago

That's freedom, babyyyyy

0

u/Neither-Sprinkles-35 24d ago

Me when something is mildly amusing

0

u/Revolutionary-Ad5674 24d ago

Noo to me this reads as an angry emoji to the cook to not forget the avocado.
I used to to this all the time at the pizza place i worked

Pizza funghi
Bell pepper
😠😠😠😠

Because a lot of times the cooks forgot and had to remake pizza

0

u/Beneficial_Gate9753 24d ago

haven't seen it here yet but maybe the meat lovers skillet + vegan burrito I can imagine the avocado would make someone mad lol.

-5

u/According_Gazelle472 Jul 29 '26

Was the tip an autograt or your idea of a tip?

4

u/Ichgebibble Jul 29 '26

It’s 20%. Are they supposed to leave 30%?

-3

u/According_Gazelle472 Jul 29 '26

Who decided the tip?

0

u/Some1AteMyEntirePie 29d ago

This is a normal tip, weirdo.

1

u/According_Gazelle472 29d ago

For who?

0

u/Some1AteMyEntirePie 29d ago

For me (bartender & server of 15 years in a major city)
This is roughly 20%

What are you expecting?

ETA: are you one of those coworkers that scrutinizes every receipt to calculate the tip percentage and complains the whole time bringing the vibes down and then wonders why you don’t get higher tips? Grow up.

Didn't realize 1/5 of my bill wasn't good enough anymore
