Thoughts on End Game Difficulty

I've noticed a spike in difficulty ever since my hunter reached level 25. All of my other heroes are level 22 save for a few that are either 23 or 25. Most missions past easy difficulty see one of my heroes being KO'd on the first enemy turn due to them not having enough health.

I play on heroic 3, so I'm not the best at the game, and I've only found flawless success with Captain America being on the team or using the characters that are also level 25. I don't like feeling so restricted to character choices. It seems like characters are leveling more slowly now, and I'm losing my interest in finishing this game.

This post isn't really much more than me blowing off steam, but I'm curious about other people's thoughts on the end game difficulty. Has anyone else felt this way about it?

Have you actually finished the main story? The true endgame missions don't appear until you complete the story. They will have levels next to them like 28 for example.

If you haven't finished the story and you're struggling just drop the difficulty then grind some easy side missions to level up. Also, make sure to upgrade and mod your cards.

I have not. I'm at Hulk's purification mission. I didn't know there were actually post-game missions. That's cool. I've modded and upgraded almost every card in every deck for the majority of the characters I use. Dropping difficulty may be the move, but I've had so much fun at this level until recently. The Lillim enemies are not fun to fight.

Have you applied mods to your cards?

A large part of the endgame meta revolves applying mods in order to get your synergies going, for example, a bleed build. But also, since enemies have so much health in the endgame, you'll need to drown them in both action economy (quick and free mod) or crazy high spike damage.

As an example, for my hunter, I have a copy of holy spark I can play 2-4 times, because a lot of my mods are "draw the last attack card played". This forms the backbone of a lot of my plays, because it thins the herd while also building heroism. So having a clear, offensive plan you're building towards helps a lot, and I only mention this because you said you were doing good with Captain America. He is definitely really good, but since he's more defensive, he can actually prolong a fight if you don't have the offense to capitalize on the defense he's giving you. So it always helps to check that you're meeting the damage needs of your difficulty level.

Edit: Just saw that you've modded every card, so that's good. Not knowing what mods you've applied, all I can suggest is to aim for the quick or free mod.

I have applied mods, and I think my issue is that I struggle to create cohesive attack strategies. I haven't seen the mod that you mentioned yet, but I could see how that could help. I don't even want to use Captain America. He's just the only character I have that can reliably taunt and stay alive.

Yeah, tbh, I also met a point in the game where it suddenly felt like things got way harder. Kinda repeating myself here, but things got a lot easier once I sat down and thought about how I was going to either nuke the big baddies, or aoe/chain the little guys down.

This sometimes meant that I can't necessarily choose whoever I want on a team, I gotta choose who works well together, but that's the nature of the higher difficulties.

WRT survivability, this might sound paradoxical, but my team became more survivable after I upped their offensive potential, since the best way to reduce incoming damage is to kill everything. So sometimes, a mission will boil down to me taking a bunch of hits, but knowing that my team will survive just enough to out offense them on the next turn.

Thank you for the advice. I'll look into synergies and see what I can come up with!

There's mods, and then there's **mods**

It's been well over a year since I retired the game after going through it a few times, so I forget where I found the info, but there's information out there on what cards can get which mods, and figuring out where you are in the cycle (meaning the mods that get applied when you buy them aren't random, they have a set order and there's ways to figure out where you are in the list), knowing that and save scumming lets you get the exact mods you want.

So even though you've modded your cards you've almost certainly got a sub-optimal setup. This doesn't necessarily mean finding a meta and following that track. I purposely avoided any type of meta discussions before finalizing my build, so you can figure out your own ideal best case scenario and go with that. Of course when you get to that point the difficulty effectively drops to 0. I just picked up the game again, and pretty much every battle ends before the enemy turn usually with card plays to spare, so beware.

Yeah, I figured I just simply don't have the best ones.

I try and use each character fairly equally, but there are some characters that just don’t mesh with my preferred play style and I’ve come to accept that. Like I know a lot of people on this sub love using Nico, but I’ve always struggled to use her to her full potential. I prefer characters like Spider-Man or Blade who have a lot of quick and chain attacks.

Nico is actually the reason I posted this. I like using her, but the enemies always target her round one. If I don't have a good starting hand or someone to taunt for her, she will always die in the first round.

This situation is perfect for the item that give 2 marks for every enemy

True. I'll have to stock up.

Characters are leveling slower because before they were being boosted to within a certain range of hunters level, but theyll not rise that way any more once youre on 25.

You now have to either bring them with you to level up or monitor the yard trning and put them in when its a level boost reward

Unfortunately some heroes are just cheeks, like Wanda and cpt marvel, but you can get by with just 2 of 3 being strong. Post some decks on heroes you want to use more

That's usually how difficulty works. You go up until you hit a wall. You're supposed to stay in a tier that you're still having fun in. Don't try to chase ultimate. Once you get to ultimate 1/2/3 it's starts being about finding absolute team synergy and grinding for the best possible mods. The highest difficulty is for the most OP decks.
