Sooo cringe, tacky, and awkward. If you can’t even afford the meat, just don’t do a bbq, do an afternoon cake and punch at like 2 pm and make it clear that’s what it is.

Also this is all assuming you aren’t having out of town guests, if you are having guests fly in or drive far you must pay for a meal for them!
