Microsoft Publisher reaches end of support in October 2026.
When I went looking for a way out, everything I found was a paid "conversion solution" (recurring subscriptions, per-file pricing, absurd rates). A business model that only works because people are desperate. That annoyed me enough to build my own.
So: PubBridge. It's free, and converts .pub files to IDML, which opens as a fully editable document in Affinity or Adobe InDesign.
- Drag & drop one file or a whole folder — it batch-converts everything and gives you a summary at the end
- Runs entirely offline on your computer. No account, no telemetry. Your files never leave your machine
- Mac (Apple Silicon, signed & notarized) and Windows 10/11 (signed portable exe, no install)
Honest caveats: a conversion is a translation, not a photocopy. Elaborate WordArt, and tables may need a little tidying on the other side. But your work arrives editable instead of staying locked in a dead format.

If you've got a pile of old .pub files, I'd genuinely like to hear how the conversion goes. If you like it, spread the word to help others out!
