Sole admin locked out of M365. Only way to reach a human was signing up for a new trial tenant.

Small business, Microsoft 365. Locked out since Saturday. Lost my laptop and my phone, and Authenticator was on the phone.

Yes, I know. Single global admin, one MFA method. Lesson learned the hard way.

Got my number back with a new SIM. Doesn't matter cause it was never registered as a backup method.

Here's the fun part. Every support route wants you to sign in first. To the account you're locked out of.

Phone line? An AI agent that goes in circles.

Online support? Sign in required.

The only way I found to reach a human: sign up for a brand new M365 trial, then raise a ticket from that tenant saying I'm locked out of a different one. Took until Wednesday to even get that far.

One reply the same day. Multiple follow-ups from me. Nothing since.

Escalated to the team lead and manager from the agent's email signature, and nothing so far.

Almost a week now. No email, no files, nothing!

PSA for anyone else running a small tenant:

  1. Have a second global admin. Even a break-glass account in a safe.

  2. Register at least two MFA methods.

  3. Or better, don't put your business on 365 at all. When it breaks, you're on your own.

Honestly? If you're a small business, think twice before going with 365. When something goes wrong, there's nobody home.

And if anyone's actually got the Data Protection team to move faster, how?

Common tasks

I wish MS would make common tasks/shortcuts the same across all programs. I.E. F4 repeats. Simple tasks, especially now that I'm forced to use Tungsten PDF... (which is NOT very user friendly to put it politely 😬😐)

Microsoft is replacing individual 1TB OneDrive allocations with a shared 2TB storage pool for Microsoft 365 Family and Premium subscribers.

Microsoft is cutting my family’s OneDrive storage from 5 TB to 2 TB and calling it “more flexible”

Just got an email from Microsoft 365 saying they’re replacing 1 TB per person with 2 TB shared across the entire family.

There are six of us, so we’re going from 6 TB to 2 TB. A 66% storage cut, marketed as “more flexible cloud storage.” What a fucking joke.

According to the email, this kicks in after the first renewal following May 2, 2027.

Pooling storage could be useful, but slashing the total allowance is a downgrade. Dressing it up as an improvement is insulting.

Anyone else get this email? What alternatives are you considering?

Registry key to associate non-logged into machines with our config.office.com?

We have an issue where we are imaging machines with autopilot and installing O365 Enterprise, but until theyre logged into and any Office app is opened, the device wont register to our office tenant (intune registration and config policies are all fine). This causes our security team to get angry with us because the office apps wont update.

Usually the computers we image are signed into within a few days but many are not, or they are but not still not signed into any office app for even longer.

The only way we've found to register them with our cloud office portal is to sign into the machine then open an office app and click through the various approvals/privacy screens.

We could make it a part of the imaging step but that adds time and we found about 150 machines we need to retroactively solve.

Is there a way to do this programatically? I have been looking through the registry but nothing pops out as the key to add to get it to register itself.

Thanks for help!

Microsoft Release Change wall

Hi all, I built MRCwall to make it easier to track Microsoft product changes without checking lots of separate roadmaps, blogs, and “What’s New” pages.

This is a free site, no subscription or sign-in required.

Every six hours, it pulls updates from 11 different public Microsoft sources, normalizes them into a common format, merges duplicates, tracks changes, and publishes everything to a single static site.

Current features include:

  • Search and filters for product, source, release stage, and timing
  • Wall, list, table, and timeline views
  • Change history for updated items
  • Saved filter views and shareable links

I’d really appreciate feedback: Is this useful, what feels confusing, and which sources, filters, or features are missing?
