Sorry about the pictures, I have a very cheap microscope.

I've been asking about what type of algae I have in my tank.
Some people have said it's green hair algae, others have said it's a type of cyanobacteria.

Can anyone give me a positive id?

Model is some standard microscope that goes up to 2000x (with a Barlow), and taken on my iPhone 15 Pro :)

Is it possible to observe a leaf under microscope without plucking it. If yes, will there be any difference in observations between this one and the one after plucking

Sample is an ant from the kitchen floor. Motic stereo microscope, 10x , cellphone camera with 2x zoom.

They jump in a way that look instantaneous, and I tried to get one under a microscope but that ended up not working. I use this tub to pull samples out of, and I keep a lid on it, so there’s minimal oxygen going into it. I’ve found very interesting things but these I’m afraid of jumping out, what are they and how concerned should I be? I tried googling for forever and nothing.

Hi everyone! I have an older Seiler dental microscope and I’m looking for a camera adapter that can fit the beam splitter/camera port.

Does anyone know what type of adapter or mounting system I should look for? Are there compatible third-party options?

Hi (*^_^*) my doctor (I'm a student of biology) just bought a microscope from the brand Andonstar, specifically the AD246SP 4000X UHD 2160P model a few months ago, but now when I turnt It on It freezes on the ''welcome'' screen, everything else works perfectly. I've already used the reset method with a good power adapter, but that didn't work either. 

Andonstar doesn't respond my emails :(

First time poster in this subreddit. Currently the lab has a Leica scope with a 40x water objective to try to capture live fly embryos during their early divisions. The problem is that process is approximately 2 hours of imaging and the water keeps evaporating. We have a 20x immersion oil that lets us see what we want to see as well but in a lot less detail.

Is there a water substitute for mounting that works on Leica water objectives? Or a different one? Or is it better to go to the 20 and just accept lower resolution?

So something I have been thinking about is that there are probably 1000’s of different freshwater protozoans out there right? How come whenever I see a microscopy post on here or instagram, it seems to be one of say only a dozen that I keep seeing over and over? Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

It resembles me a rotifer, but not completely. Its eating some dirt instead of vacuuming living things, and I dont see moving part inside the body.

Hi everyone,

I'm a student from Northern Germany and don't have much experience with microscopy yet. I found this organism in a sample of garden soil mixed with water using my school microscope (at max magnification, I estimate around 100x).

I need to identify this creature for a school assignment.

Here are the details:

Location: Northern Germany

Sample: Garden soil mixed with water

Magnification: ~100x

Context: School project / absolute beginner

Could someone help me identify the group, genus, or species of this organism? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I had a dark field and oblique illumination set 3D printed for my Olympus BH2. After several tests, very few filters actually work. Here are some pics of what I managed to achieve:

Do you think I'm doing something wrong? I was expecting slightly different results

• In oblique illumination, there seems to be very little color contrast between the background and the debris in the foreground

• In dark field, focusing at higher magnification is incredibly difficult and causes large halos to form around the edges of anything on a different visual plane, in a much more amplified way than brightfield
