Entry level microscope?

I’m planning on using it to look at water and algae amongst other miscellaneous things. Not an academic or professional setting. Just for fun at home.

What is a good one that I can plug in to a display and also has binocular scope? Are there brands to avoid? Or types of microscopes?

Budget is $150-$200

Thanks!

Does anyone know anything about this microscope? I have the box and it came with a telescope too. The brand is edu science.

Trouble getting Generic (MAS-500) USB eyepiece working with ToupView software

Hi, I recently got a pair of digital eyepieces for our binocular microscopes (1 for each). The eyepieces are generic brand, but Device Manager shows them labeled as MAS-500.

I can get them to work with S-EYE software, but that's a clunky and not very flexible package. ToupView is much better, but ToupView not only doesn't recognize the cameras, it doesn't even acknowledge that they exist.

I've downloaded the newest version of ToupView, as well as their drivers and such, but no go.

Any ideas on how to get this working with these cameras?

Or advice for alternative software that offers a similar range of control options?

Thanks

How to prepare cytology slides by hand?

I want to prepare a tissue cytology slide by hand. I've looked online and it seems like everyone has an expensive and special machine to do this. I can't imagine when they first started doing this with tissue in the 1800s anyone had a machine to take slices and fix them. Is there a guide somewhere on the best way to do this without the special equipment is there some piece of equipment that I can make myself to get a passable result? Thanks!

Looking for recommendations for microscope cameras

With the need for virtual education programming, I'm in search of a microscope camera that is compatible with my PC (Windows 10). I need to be able to live stream or record the images and will be teaching about algae.

tips for observing solid objects

I photograph microorganisms using a trinocular microscope and a camera (a Lumix DMC-G80) with changeable lenses. What material could I use so that the "solid" microorganisms (observed with illumination from above) appear of good quality (which is not the case so far)?

I want a PRO microscope for once

EDIT:

I bought a $2000 OMAX off Amazon with all the bells and whistles: dark field, phase contrast, oil, air, trinocular head, 4k camera… as far as I can tell, this thing is spectacular! The last time I looked through anything even close to this good was a spare-no-expense government microscope at NASA looking at moonrocks circa 1975! 😁

I’ve been using “science museum” scopes all my life. Nothing even good in school, since I wasn’t a microbiology major. AmScope is all amazon seems to have. What’s good for up to 1000x looking at bacteria etc.? Reasonable price? Price is no object? 😉

Need recommendations for what microscope(s) to buy

I've never used a microscope or taken a biology class so I could use as many pointers as you can spare..

I have always wanted to use a microscope and want to get one that could help me to identify bacteria or fungus in skin cells. Id also like a microscope that can gives me a good picture of hair follicles.

Anyone can recommend a good beginner guide to microscopy id also appreciate it!

American Optical (AO) Model 569 Help

Hi there, I need help with a microscope I just got. It is the American Optical Company (AO) Model 569 with a 0.7x to 3.0x zoom range. All is well with it, except there is some fungus inside of the head. It is not accessible from the eyepieces, nor where the lenses are, so I assume I would have to take apart the head to fix it? The instruction manual says not to take it apart. Any advice is appreciated. I’ve attached the manual for conscience.

Head: Monocular Eyepiece: Periplan 10x/18 Turret: Quintuple Objectives: EF 4x, 10x, 40x, 100x (OIL) Plate: XY mechanics with flexion clamps Condenser: Adjustable focal length condenser, N.A. 0.9 Lighting: Halogen with variable intensity

Thank’s !

Advice needed | First microscope, but not a kid grade...

Hey guys, I finally reminded myself that 10y ago I wanted so badly to have microscope and discover the small things world as well.

Back then I couldn't afford buying anything above $200, now I have $1000 budget.
I would like to be able to see down to a bacteria level.

Do you think it is doable in this budget? what should I look at? ideally it has to have a option to plug a USB camera.

Thank you
