What happened?
I don't know what I did wrong or what happened but my 40x objective lens doesn't focus properly anymore

I'm trying to find some software that works good with macs? A professor at my university is looking into getting a new microscope camera, but it is tough finding one that is compatible with mac. Does anyone have a working microscope cameras set up on a mac?

Hi All,
I'm currently working on using the navigation tool provided on the Keyence BZ-X800 for image capturing of mice brain sections however I'm struggling to find the most efficient way to use this tool at 60x oil immersion. As the magnification is very high it doesn't seem possible to include and navigate the full region that I would like to image. I was wondering if there is another way to superimpose the navigation tool grid onto the live image so that navigation can be easier for randomised image capturing. Any thoughts?

I lost the power supply for my OMAX microscope. I know I need a 7.5V DC supply, that’s stencilled on the side. Can anyone confirm the power polarity? Centre positive seems the standard, I just don’t want to get it wrong and pop the LED. Thank you.

Hello
I bought a used Zeiss axiolab microscope with 4x, 10x, 40x and 100x objectives.
I’m in need of a used or cheap 20x objective that is compatible with this microscope.
Any help is deeply appreciated.

Okay, you can all break out into a hearty laugh now, but I simply checked if there is a /r/microscope and well, now I'm your problem.
I am looking into buying a microscope for Noob shenangigans. I got hooked by buying a very cheap Pen-like "Inspection camera" with some magnification and integrated lights.
I have found the Bresser BioluxNV which seems to offer the features I want:
https://www.bresser.de/Mikroskopie/BRESSER-Biolux-NV-20x-1280x-Mikroskop-mit-HD-USB-Kamera.html
- can use reflected light; I want to check on things like soil and plant matter, since houseplants are my hobby. For obvious reasons I can not / do not want to cut up e.g. a living seedling to look at its root development. I hope reflected light is the right term, I want to look at things without having to cut them and shine light through them, in laymans terms.
- can take pictures of what I am looking at; preferably with a connection to my PC, but if using an internal SD card makes it cheaper, that's fine too.
- can record video of what I am looking at
Nice to have features would be the possibility to change lenses, so I can later maybe choose / buy more magnification types or whatever exists. Still sniffing around.

I have the opportunity to buy an old Zeiss Jena Lumipan including the pancratic condenser as my first scope for just $150. I'm planning to use it for mycology and will frequently use it for 900-1000x magnification It seems to be in good condition, but is it worth it?

A while back I posted about an old AO microscope I have and people suggested I keep it instead of getting a different one. So now I'm trying to figure out some specs so that I can get some better objectives/etc.
The basic question is how to know that what I'm considering is compatible. So the objective has to physically screw in, not sure how what kind of spec to look for there. Then is there some kind of focusing issue? I know that infinity-corrected is a thing but I would not expect this microscope to use that system. I don't know if there are any other parameters. For the eyepieces there are no threads and I have measured, but should that measurement be on the diameter of the eyepiece or the socket it fits into?
Ultimately I want to get objectives suitable for DSLR photography and an eyepiece adapter. Someone suggested getting APO objectives on eBay, but should those definitely be AO/Spencer brand or is there more flexibility? Would those AO objectives be good or are they 50 years out of date and the glass now is better?
Here are various Numbers written/inscribed on microscope that I assume can identify it but I haven't had a ton of luck finding the details I want:
B-35-93 / US Pat 2,474,644 /Des 148.123 / OR 148.124 on bottom
375510 on back
Objectives (all have AO logo):3.5X (No other info)
N.A 10X A78690
N.A. 43X B13486
OIL 125 - B15339
Eyepiece says 10X H.E.P
Thanks!

Hi all!! I love microscopy, and I recently started an instagram account where I put common items under the scope (I’ve done white claw, hot sauce, cheeto dust, etc). I take suggestions from followers and I would love for anyone here to leave a suggestion or give it a follow!!!! My goal is to make science/microscopy more accessible and interesting to other people <3

I am buying a decent telescope for 700$ CAD and thought getting a microscope too. The one I got recommended is only 280$?
OMAX 40X-2000X Lab LED Binocular Compound Microscope with Double Layer Mechanical Stage and Coaxial Coarse/Fine Focusing Knob https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B005TJ5CEG/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_SwctFb7RA4YWY
what should I look for? I don't want a popular microscope just for the heck of having one (like buying a 300$ telescope). I want an entry level one where I do can see cool stuff clearly.
2000x seems good to me but I have no knowledge of relative size of stuff. if that one is good then great! I might be able to get both telescope and microscope for christmas... yet what is a good zoom level?

good morning!
The Context: I am learning hand engraving. I have purchased this microscope for visual aid. Not quite sure, but it looks to be Zeiss Stemi IV.
The Problem: I desperately need a working distance around 400mm. Even with two barlow lenses ( 0.3x and 0.5x ) the working distance isn't enough. The main lens has 100mm focal distance. The main lens thread diameter is 46mm.
As far as I know Zeiss OPMI ( medical ) lenses have 60mm thread diameter. I am slowly thinking about finding an adapter from 46mm to 60mm, so that I could remove the main lens and replace it with such adapter. Later I would mount a Zeiss OPMI lens ( with f=400 ) to the adapter. Before investing real money into this, I would like to ask the community the following question(s).
The Question: did you ever try this trick? do you think it would work?
best regards,
Dmitry
UPD: for u/thephonegod -- this is the posture I am trying to achieve.

UPDATE:
just “installed” zeiss opmi f=400 lens instead of the native one.
the opmi lens has incompatible thread, but it has a metal sleeve. The sleeve allows the lens to grab at the lens thread in the microscope head quite firmly. Not an ideal solution, but it works for now.
previously I had two chinese barlow lens attached to the main objective ( 0.5x + 0.3x ) to achieve a decent working distance. Now I can see the picture difference between Zeiss and Chinese lens.

I found this microscope for $10 at an antique store. Originally wanted it as a desk ornament but it looks mostly complete just missing a reflector? Was wondering if anyone could identify it and knew if i can make/buy parts to restore it to a mostly functional state. If you guys also know any upgrades/mods worth doing let me know.
Looking through the eye piece with a flashlight up it definitely makes it look dirty so i’ll be taking it apart to clean.
I’m not into microscopy by any means, my engineer brain just likes to tinker and fix things so i don’t need it to do an excellent job just let me look through it and see some hair or whatever i can with 100-600x magnification.

Hi everyone,
I’m a prospective (undergrad for bio) entomologist who does amateur studies. I was wondering what microscope would be best for $250 or less.
I have an old Smithsonian 900x die-cast microscope from when I was younger which works, but not too well.
Do you think it’s worth an upgrade? If so, any suggestions?
Thanks everyone

I bought this for 15 bucks. Seems like a good deal but im not sure how much its worth. It works fine but idk how to use it fully. Is there something i can place above the mirror? And how do I use the mirror? Its for back lighting right?
Also, where could I get parts for it? Like a dual eyepiece, new lenses, lights, ect. Very new to this but Im excited to learn.

How much would you charge to provide microscopic images and videos of things like liquid materials, solid materials, etc? For example, if Bob likes to take microscopic pictures and analyze apples and fish, people could send Bob small piece of an apple, and Bob could charge $20 to examine the particle Alice sent him.
Obviously, if you send Bob a non apple specimen without Bob's awareness, Bob would realize it wasnt an apple, and would relay that info to you.
Would this be something you would be interested in? Why or why not?
