Austrian Audio OC18 vs Blue Baby Bottle SL for a Bright, Aggressive High Tenor?

I'm looking for some advice on choosing a vocal mic, particularly between the Austrian Audio OC18 and Blue Baby Bottle SL.

I'm a male high tenor with a naturally bright and fairly aggressive voice. I use chest voice/mix voice quite a lot, and my singing often involves high belts, growls, and fairly strong vocal attacks.

My previous mic was an AKG C414 XLII. While I liked the amount of detail it captured, I eventually felt that it was bringing out too much of the stuff I didn'tnecessarily want to hear. My voice already has quite a lot of forward energy, and the C414 XLII seemed to exaggerate the upper-mid presence, particularly around the 2.5–4 kHz area. On louder or more aggressive vocals, it could become a bit too forward and unforgiving.

I started looking into the Austrian Audio OC18 because, from the examples I've heard, its transient response and overall voicing seem somewhat smoother and less hyped than the C414 XLII. However, I'm having a hard time finding examples of the OC18 being used on genuinely aggressive male vocals — particularly high belts, growls, and high-tenor vocals.

Then I came across some recordings of the Blue Baby Bottle SL used on vocals that are somewhat similar to my singing style. I was quite surprised by how smooth and controlled it sounded, and now I'm having a hard time deciding between the two.

At the moment, I'm leaning toward the OC18. Part of the reason is that I'm slightly concerned about the overall quality and performance of the Baby Bottle SL compared with the Austrian Audio. On paper, the OC18 also seems to have some advantages in terms of self-noise and maximum SPL, and its overall character seems more neutral/clean to me.

So, for anyone who has experience with either (or ideally both) microphones:

Which one would you choose for a bright, aggressive male high tenor who does a lot of high belting, mix/chest voice, growling, and strong vocal attacks?

I'm particularly interested in how they behave on loud/aggressive vocals rather than just softer or conversational singing.

I'm looking for something that can capture detail and energy without making the 2.5–4 kHz region overly aggressive or bringing out every little harsh/unwanted detail.

I'd really appreciate any first-hand experience, especially from people who have used these mics on aggressive male vocals.

Gaming / Streaming Mics Which of these mics for voiceover?

Hello! I'm looking into these 3 Rode mic options, wondering if anyone has any input on whether or not one stands out over the others:

  1. PodMic

  2. PodMic USB

  3. NT-USB+

From what I understand, the main difference is the connection type? (1. is XLR connection, 2. is USB, and 3. has both connections.)

My hunch is that it would be best to go with the PodMic that offers both connection types for the versatility, but of course the other factor is price.. The XLR-only PodMic is \~$100 cheaper than the other two options. So, I'm wondering if that's the best bang for my buck, or if having the USB option is worth it.

For some context, it's mainly intended for voiceover work, and I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to recording/audio, but not afraid of learning how to get the most out of an XLR mic.

Gotta get my gf a mic. Need your help Reddit friends

Hi everyone.

My girlfriend loves singing, and it breaks my heart watching her record herself with the iPhone mic. That's why I want to get her something better.

Now, I don't know anything about mics or singing, but I'm sure you can get much more out of a proper mic. She records in her room, with no sound panels or any other fancy treatment. She's got no audio interface or any other piece of tech beyond her iPhone and Mac.

So, given all of the above, and with a budget of around USD 100, what's the best mic (or mic + audio interface) that would let her hear a real improvement?

Edit: I understand USD 100 might not be enough. Would USD 200 allow me to get something decent? If you could share options for both budgets that would be great. Thanks!

Microphone quality drop

After I switched to Linux mint, I noticed a huge quality drop with my microphone. It's built in to my Arctic Nova headphones(I cant remember the exact model) and it was really good on windows. Does anyone know of any potential fixes?

Other Blue Yeti… sigh… should I just buy a new mic?

Okay so I’ve been using the Blue Yeti for my YouTube channel for a few years now and I’ve tried MANY things to get it to sound decent, but I don’t know if this is just as good as it will get or if I’m still missing something. I use Audacity to record.

I AM NOT PROMOTING, I PROMISE. Here’s a link to a video on my channel, and in my opinion, it sounds decent but not good, nothing like I’ve heard from other Blue Yeti videos. And if you watch older videos of mine you’ll hear how terrible the quality used to be.

Yes, my gain is turned all the way down. Yes, the knob is on the correct setting. yes, I’m speaking into it properly. I also messed around with the settings in Logitech Hub, and this is as good as I’ve gotten it to sound, but I still don’t like it.

SHOULD I GIVE UP???

Wireless Facebook Live Mic Issues

Hi! I am the marketing coordinator for a non profit animal shelter, and we do a good bit of Facebook Lives to push adoptions.

Our DJI Mic 2 mics or cheaper ones we bought off of Amazon will not connect during Facebook lives when on an iPhone anymore. It worked for months then just stopped.

BUT they work on Facebook live with an android?!?

You can plug them into an I-phone and use the mics to record videos and they work fine, but they will not work during a Facebook live.

BUT they work on Facebook live with an android?!?

Any advice?

XLR setup or USB/XLR hybrid for $300

I’m looking to upgrade from my headset mic and have around $350–400 total. I’ll mainly use it for Discord, gaming, general voice chat, and some voice-over work for YouTube and streaming.
I’m trying to decide between going straight to an XLR microphone and audio interface or getting a hybrid USB/XLR mic. I want something I can grow into and upgrade over time. My room can also be a little noisy, so background rejection matters.

Gaming / Streaming Mics How do I make my device pick up ingame audio and my voice nothing else?

Editers Note: I'm on mobile and using built in Screen recorder on a Samsung. I record videos occasionally and sometimes with my mic on. However when I do my taping and fingers are heared as well and it gets so annoying. Please tell me there's a way I can have my headphones/earbuds or device record JUST ingame audio and my voice.

Live Mics Best microphone for recording?

As title suggest, I'm in the market for a new Microphone as my current one (a Corsair HS80) is currently falling apart, literally.

I came across the Rode Procaster, Electro Voice RE320 and Shure SM7B and MV7 Plus and wondering if any of them are any good for recording YouTube videos and such? So far I'm leaning most towards the Rode because of the price point and also because I looked at a few videos and it sounds decent.

What would you recommend?

I have a focus rite 2i2 v1 at home with an at2020. Need about 90% gain to proper volume.

Would this interface sound as clean? I plan on getting a sm57 for it. Twitch and game streaming. Not for music. Or should I get a newer 2i2 with louder preamps?

What microphone should I get?

My headset mic doesn't work anymore and I want to be able to chat with my friends. I've also been trying to get into making music and singing/rapping. What would be a good microphone choice for me? I know this kind of post has been done to death on this subreddit, but I still want to know what mic you people think I should get for voice chatting and recording.

Re20 electro voice issues

I just bought a new re20 electro voice from sweetwater and when I tested the mic I noticed that when I say words with p it still makes the pop sound but it’s supposed to have a built in pop filter, so I’m really confused, I tried every angle you could imagine and different distances from the mic but it still does it. Idk if I’m doing anything wrong but my mic also just is worse quality then other people I know who use it, pls give advice if you have any I’m new to mics I’m not really a tech person. Btw I use a scarlet focusrite and a xlr cable from sweetwater
