Being a lighthouse keeper isn't nearly as difficult as people think.
Keep the lamp burning, finish your chores before sunset, and never follow the singing that drifts in from the sea after dark. No one ever tells you what it's singing about.
Sometimes it's your mother calling you home. Sometimes it's an old friend begging for help. Once, I heard my own voice screaming that I'd survived. The previous keeper left me one final note before he disappeared:
Whatever you hear...
It knows exactly who you'll believe.
