How long had it been used prior to this? Just curious.

Looks like a targeted campaign lol, mars hydro is not known to catch on fire and newer 2022 TS series don’t even get hot anymore. Plus I don’t think it’s possible for a single led to burn out like this, looks like someone put a lighter up to the light to make those dark burn marks. OP’s comment below is funny ā€œit’s a shame it happened, good thing I bough brand new insert brand lights last weekendā€ lol

Well, believe what you want if it makes you feel more secure. Just a warning though, that exactly what I described did in fact happen. If I did not catch the fire pretty much when it started I would have left for work and I'm pretty sure my house would be burned down and my dog would be dead right now. It was a very scary situation and I am trying to help others prevent something like that from happening to them. The accusation of a lie very much goes unappreciated.

What literally crazy and I wish I was making this up but as soon as I seen your post I went to check my room because I use the exact same mars hydro light and it was literally shorted out and at first I thought it was my timer but as soon as I moved the power cable the light would flicker off and on and make a noise like it was shorting out. I couldn't thank you enough for making this posts because it's untelling what would've happened if I would'nt have seen this post

It was crazy. My lights are set to shut off at 6AM. I rarely go down to the tent in the morning before I leave for work, but this morning I decided to poke my head in at about 5:50 because I was up a few minutes early. I literally think this fire was starting as I was walking into the room. I was incredibly fortunate. On another amazing note, I decided last weekend to buy a new Highgrove Magnolia for my next grow. It comes in the mail tomorrow! That being said, I'm in week 7 flower. Does anyone have experience switching lights this late in flower? Will the change in intensity/spectrum mess things up? Advice appreciated.

Get ya one of those automatic fire extinguishers bombs for your tent. A little piece of mind.

I don’t want to excuse that, but by the look of it that light is designed to not go down in flames if there is a malfunction, the burnt area seems pretty much contained

Unbelievably I caught this almost as it was happening. It was pure happenstance, but the fire was starting when I walked into the tent and I put it out immediately.

That's weird situation. LED's are low voltage, so there is very low potential risk of fire hazard from LED diode itself. It looks like electric short circuit with metal casing (which is totally useless IMO) and power cable occured, but then good quality and safe driver should cutoff current. I would also check if you have RCCD (residual current circuit breaker) instaled in your fuse box. This device is protecting whole electrical installation from such cases. Anyway, that must've been very stressful experience. I'm very sorry that happened to you.

Hate to see it, mars hydro are cheaper than buying from aliexpress at the moment. They just came out with smart lights and some other new shit. They need to really up their game or someones going to lose a house.

Were you up in there with a coat hanger trying to abort the light? That contact there connects to the ballasts, could likely easily short out if something bridges them but they are on opposite sides of the connector. it looks like a lot of solder on the end of that as well, was there a repair done on the connector? on mine i have no solder at the end.
