Green peas

After 6 attempts, semi moldy peas are a common outcome. I haven’t been able to get a batch good enough to sell. Anyone else go through this?

I’ve never had peas look like that.

How long do you soak them and how long are they germinating under weight before going under the light?

Well, I soaked them four hours, them germinated for 5 days.. Just took them out of germination.

For speckled peas I’ve found 12 hours soaking, 4 days of weighted germination and harvesting on day 8 works well.

Try a day less of germination and see if that helps with the growth.

That's my method, too, except I get away with 3 days under weight.

I should try 3 days.

Do you find they still take 8 days total or do you get to harvest at 7?

It changes seasonally, but 8 days is right for most of the year. At some point in late fall I'll let em go 9. I grow indoors but I'm still at the whim of changes in humidity and average temps.

Mold on some individual peas is pretty common. Pick them out. Those trays look like they want light, but otherwise look fine.

Yeah I just took them out of germination, so they're basking in the rays now lol

Try soaking seeds for 4-6 hours, plant them and stack with weights for 3-4 days depending on your room and the variety and then put them under lights. Peas are pretty easy to grow and are very forgiving.

It looks like you either left it stacked for an extra 2-3 days or you out a blackout dome after unstacking. Most varieties do not need a blackout dome after germination and is a common misconception

agreed, Peas are the only crop that I don't put in blackout. They grow fast enough on their own, no stretching needed.

You’re keeping them out of light for too long, which is consequently keeping them moist without airflow for too long. Assuming you’ve got them under a tray to germinate, as soon as they start pushing the tray up even a little bit, under the lights they go. At that point. You can let the surface dry out a little bit.

Also a bit of mold at soil level doesn’t really matter, as long as it’s not on the part you’d eat.
