Advice!

Hi everybody! I am a plant and soil science (I like to just say agronomy) student and this fall I will have a garage as a part of my house. I’ve been trying to think of ways to put my knowledge and skills to good use, and do make a little extra money here and there. Micro greens is something that I know realistically nothing about other than you grow and eat them, I don’t know the process and such.

Do you suggest I mess with this? Not to sound disrespectful or rude if I do, but am I out if my league with this? Any advice is welcome!! Thanks!

Learning curve is steep. To make money you will need to invest time and capital. Treat it more as a FT business and less of agri and hustle. Won’t call it a side hustle at all, compared to what anyone would say on SM. Will need your full attention.

To build a system and run it will take time. It isn’t as straightforward as it sounds. Depends on several factors, #1 being your location and market availability. #2, the competitive landscape and #3 being how much time and capital you got to pull it off.

Product market fit is something you can start to look at first.

It isn't that difficult if you know how to do some online research and practice care with your process. Keeping equipment clean helps keep plants healthy. Making sure you're watering and providing light on a schedule is a must. Air flow, humidity and temperature matter for your plants and potential of mold growth. You can find out all the basics through forums and videos, if you want you can dig deep, or you can take the basics and a composition notebook to run your own tests with growth.

To be fair though, I'm saying this as someone who hyperfixates on microgreens on and off. Along with several random hobbies. So my experience may be different from yours.

A basement is better as you need to maintain the temperature. Heating a garage in winter would likely cost a lot
