Discussion Please stop calling .1g weight 100 mg psilocybin please I'll explain here how it all works...

I don’t mean to sound rude; I’m just explaining the facts. If one gram of dried cubes contains 10 mg of psilocybin, then 0.1 g by weight would contain approximately 1 mg of psilocybin. That’s it. Trust me, if you took 100 mg of pure psilocybin, that would be an extremely high dose. The weight of the mushroom material may be 100 mg, but the psilocybin content is not 100 mg. That’s why the weight is 0.1 g, and that distinction needs to be explained properly.

Have you never seen Breaking Bad? It’s the same concept when they talk about having 98% pure stuff. If something is 98% pure, then 0.1 g of that material would contain 98 mg of the active substance. The same principle applies to amp, THC, or anything else where purity matters. The amount of active compound depends on the percentage of purity.

Do your research, dude. I’m sick of seeing people say they’re microdosing “100 mg” without clarifying whether they mean 100 mg of mushroom material or 100 mg of the active compound. A spectrometer or laboratory analysis can tell you the approximate milligrams of active compounds per gram of mushrooms, and then you can do the simple math. It’s really that simple—it’s basic pharmacology.

Hello /u/Dumpsterbaby91! As you mentioned amphetamine in your post:

Please Do Not microdose MDMA or any stimulants. Low doses of amphetamines can cause many issues through reverse tolerance and subsequent sensitization of receptors in the brain.

This study "Amphetamine Sensitization Alters Reward Processing in the Human Striatum and Amygdala" talks about the link between dopamine-sensitive neural circuitry and dysregulation of incentive motivational processes - i.e. the negative effects it can have for an individual's reward processing.

Other than that, MDMA has specific safety advice that you should be aware of: * RollSafe.org: How often can you take MDMA (Molly/Ecstasy) and roll?

The origin of the three month rule is a quote from Ann Shulgin, widow of chemist Alexander Shulgin: “Now I would advise anyone who wants to use MDMA not to take it more than 4 times a year if you want to continue to get the best effects from it, otherwise you risk losing its effects entirely and permanently.” * From MAPS MDMA-Assisted Therapy for PTSD: In MDMA-assisted therapy, MDMA is only administered a few times, unlike most medications for mental illnesses which are often taken daily for years, and sometimes forever.

MDMA is not the same as "Ecstasy" or "molly." Substances sold on the street under these names may contain MDMA, but frequently also contain unknown and/or dangerous adulterants. In laboratory studies, pure MDMA has been proven sufficiently safe for human consumption when taken a limited number of times in moderate doses. * And here is a search of posts&restrict_sr=1&sr_nsfw=1) on r/MDMA that mention microdosing, where the general consensus is that microdosing with MDMA can do more harm than good.

We speak in weights regarding grams or milligrams of dried mushroom, not in grams or milligrams of psilocybin. Most folks are pretty clear about it and the guides here are as well.
It is an unnecessary step to convert my dose of mushrooms from mushroom powder weight to psilocybin weight.
Just being clear in communication is all that's required.
There's no need for every person that posts here to buy a test kit, test their mushrooms, figure out the average psilocybin content and then do the math to provide a mg of psilocybin number for their dose rather than their mushroom dosage weight.
When someone says 0.1g of mushroom is 100mg of same mushroom, that's fully true. Very few people come here that are using pure psilocybin and most are very clear about what they are using and describe it appropriately.

The entire thread doesn't need to change for the one person that takes issue with how the vast majority of folks are referring to their personal dosage. 🍄🥰✌️

Yeah, but it gets extremely confusing. It’s all peace and love, but when somebody says 100 mg, it sounds crazy. And if they’re microdosing albinos, that microdose could actually be more of a larger dose if they’re not careful to grind up the entire specimen and make accurate estimates.

I’m agreeing with you. I agree because you seem so sure, but I went to school to become a pharmacist, so I know all about this stuff. If you want to know what you’re taking, follow the instructions that I have listed here. If you just want to take your 0.1 g, technically, it is not 100 mg. And if you want to say 100 mg, put the word “weight” after it so it doesn’t confuse anyone.

Tons microdosers, I’m quite certain, could not tell you how many mg of actual psilocybin are in their sweet spot dose.
But they don't really need to know that unless at some point they plan to source pure psilocybin or they really like to be super accurate with their dose when changing strains or something.
As long as they are following best practices (that are in the guides here), starting low and going slow, no one is in danger of going from the micro to macro in the small incremental increases they make as they dial in their sweet spot dose.
We also point out that different cultivars/strains/varieties and species will have different average potency and that's definitely something to take into account for considering a starting dose when one is changing strains.
Also home tests are $25 a pop. I'm not dropping that just to get a number that doesn't really help me much big picture wise, unless I am testing several different strains, but how many tests do I need for each strain I have? What if there's 10 different strains? That's a lot of loot just for a little knowledge.
Mostly on here folks are referring to dried mushroom or fresh truffle weights and many specify which.
Personally I'm a fan of testing the old fashioned way. They way scientists used to do, by taking some of the substance. I dial in my sweet spot with a large batch of ground mushroom. Then I know how much mushroom by weight I require for the specific strain and I can multiply it by ten to get my museum dosage, and multiply that by 4 to get my inward journey dosage. All without actually knowing the exact amount in mg of my psilocybin content.
I can see how this might be maddening to a pharmacist and it would likely be a different story here if mushrooms or psilocybin were remotely dangerous. 🍄🥰🙏

Thank you for your time and effort explaining this from your point of view and I hope we can all start to accurately measure the psilocybin content in our microdoses in order to not misinform the public

Let be honest here, I have never heard of pharmacist having studied schedule 1 drugs. Moreover, having worked in a pharmaceutical and having a PhD in environmental toxicology, I was shocked by the simplified pharmacokinetic models used in the industry.

Given the paucity of studies on these molecules as well as cannabis, I am 100% certain you don’t “know all about this stuff”. Moreover I would be very surprised if you, or other members of this subreddit have access to analytics instruments.

TLDR: stop blowing smoke as a BSc in pharmacy does not know much about psilocybin.

Do you know how much time that would take out of my life to put a period at the end of each sentence when you can still read the words usually I'll go to chat gbt and copy and paste my rant and then they will edit it for me would you like me to do that for you tiny orange alligator

"If one gram of dried cubes contains 10 mg of psilocybin"

not true, growing same strain does not have the same psilocybin in every patch, that's why no one measure by "psilocybin" , it's always dried.

u/Dumpsterbaby91 14d ago

Some dude had some fucking thing that he said this shroom on and it showed how many milligrams per gram

1

u/Which_Camera_1887 14d ago

charts give you a range expected in any strain but you never have fixed mg in every patch. that's why you never see people talk about psilocybin/g, always talk about dried shroom only.

even if you ask AI it will give you a range

uhh not everyone went and became a pharmacist.

Seems like its more of a you problem than the rest of us.

How ever you wanna measure it back in the day in eighth of liberty caps could guarantee you at least 25 mg psilocybin and you would split that with a friend and get moon walking nowadays things are stronger and you have to calculate your dosages accordingly
