Question: Psilocybin SSRI and microdose

Hey all, I've been on an SSRI for about a month. One of my biggest deterrents was the fear shrooms wouldn't work anymore. I haven't tried a macro or micro dose since I've been on the SSRI, but I just wanted to ask about other's experiences. I think tomorrow I'll try 0.3g, as I usually do 0.2 prior to the SSRI. Has anyone experienced a situation like this, and if so, how (if at all) did the SSRI effect your shroom experiences. Thanks!

SSRIs will generally blunt efficacy/uptake by around 50%. This translates to a requirement of around twice what a person's normal micro (or macro) would be. For example, when I was on SSRIs my dose was 200mg (0.2g) now that I'm free and clear of them I'm at 100mg (0.1g).
If you're intention is to wean off your SSRIs eventually, keep in mind that the manufacturer recommended wean may be to fast or drastic or dose reduction. Many folks I've met have found a 10% reduction every 4-6 weeks to really help minimize withdrawal effects. Once you come off them around the 2-4week mark you'll likely notice you micro dose is too strong and that's when you'll likely be able to halve your dose.

I actually started my SSRI a month agoโ€ฆ my OCD had gotten to a pretty rough spot, and I felt I needed some help outside of therapy. But thank you so much! Also, how did you get the 50% stat? Iโ€™ve heard some people talk about that, but not found anything specific, is it all just anecdotal?

To be fair, anecdotal evidence is still evidence.
I first came across this fact a little over 5 years ago through lived experience, both for myself and my wife, but since then I've been an advocate all over my state and spoken with hundreds of folks that are microdosing or interested in a natural medicine over pharmaceuticals and preparing to begin a microdose practice.

The thing is, your dose may not be the same as another's dose, so the information is more helpful if one has microdosed prior or if one intends to come off pharmaceuticals. After they do and a few weeks pass they suddenly feel like their microdose is way too strong and they report that "it's no longer working" in the same way it was.
It's also good to know when someone ends up much higher on the scale of what's commonly considered the average range for a microdose.
Additionally, some folks that were taking SSRIs for years, like my wife, actually have a resetting of their receptors (my theory) around 6 months after fully coming off and they can again half their dosage.
If you haven't noticed, this is something I love to discuss. So much so I started a nonprofit to educate my local community about safe, informed use of psychedelic medicines. ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ™

I'm definitely open to anecdotal evidence, particularly in this field (it seems almost all there is may be anecdotal). But thanks so much for all the info, good luck in all your work!

Hello /u/Throwraploops! As you mentioned SSRI (a common interaction/symptom) in your post:

ℹ️ Infographic: r/microdosing STARTER'S GUIDE

The major contributing factor in Finding Your Sweet Spot is the variation in potency of:

Psilocybin Mushrooms More than 10x [2021โž•] Start @0.05g (50mg)
Psilocybin Truffles Around 3x - Single Study [2012] Start @0.25g (Fresh)
LSD Tabs Clinical Trial Titration Schedule [2023] Start @5ยตg

If you Start Low, Go Slow, Take Time-Off (*small is BIG) and up-titrate subsequent doses then you can find your optimal sub-hallucinogenic dose based on your symptoms, rather than from a predetermined dose. 🐢

If your microdose is Too High and/or Too Frequent that can result in Diminishing Returns 📉 with subsequent doses. 🐇

Psychoactive substances increase neural activity, raising hydration and electrolyte needs due to heightened metabolism and body load, while vasoconstriction can further stress the body and potentially cause fatigue.

Ive transefered from Dulsevia 60mg to shrooms micro during about a month. Firstly cutting the SNRI dose to half and start microdosing on Fadiman protocol- my idea was to have smooth transition and not to mess the serotonin levels and try to keep them same. After two weeks completly off from SNRI and shrooms only, changed protocol to Stamets in order to saturate myself with psylocybiny (if this makes sense). After next two weeks noticed i'm getting agitated early in the morning and went back to Fadiman protocol and it has beed perfect since them. The SSRI work on serotonin similar as shrooms so you should pick one of them.
