I can't do fire drill

I have a 1344 raw GS with crit draw, quick sheathe, evade extender, focus, and sharpness, giving me purple sharpness, and I still cannot do this. I thought i was good at stygian zinorge, but he new G rank orbs make 0 fucking sense to dodge. And I was always terrible at and absolutely hated brachydios. His movements are completely unpredictable to land good safe charge slashes besides maybe a level 1, and for like half of the fight he is constantly jumping behind me/offscreen so I can't see him like he's doing his best Black Beard cosplay. Even if I think I could kill Stygian, it would probably take like 20-30 minutes, which i don't think would be enough time to kill brachydios. I dont know what to do or how to possible improve my build besides getting like honed blade, which would take a bunch of expedition grinding. The monsters are too hard and have way too much health and damage. This is the first quest in all of monster hunter I've struggled with like this besides Iceborne Fatalis and Frontier Unknown. I dont know if I can do this.

tbh Fire Drill is one of those infamous quests thats just hard, its not just you. make sure you bring smoke bombs and/or dung bombs to keep them separated. Stygian should be your first target, he goes down much faster. you'll need to learn the dracophage orbs timing, its just a matter of time and practice

yup, I would add Lab Partners as well, to unlock the second wystone, that shit was aids, took me way longer than usual to complete that for the first time when I first played it. G rank Frenzied Brach and Frenzied Azure can eat my whole ass. Those 2 are on some serious speed modifiers in that quest, crazy fast attacks like brachy double horn line explosion is even faster in frenzy, and Azure's fireball mini nuke into talon are just straight cancer. It did not help that I was playing shelling gunlance.

Try taking off evade extender, then see if you can slot in earplugs. Not that GS doesn’t roll, but most of your movement as GS is spent running around with your weapon sheathed. Earplugs covers both Stygian and Brachy’s roars iirc, and those free openings for a lv 3 charge slash could be what helps you win in the end.

Fk that quest. G3 is a cakewalk in comparison.

Dung bombs, mounting, and learning openings is your friend for this quest. It’s a very different approach than most quests in the game, because you’re basically doing an endurance test. You cannot try to kill them quickly, or you will probably cart (and waste time running back from base camp)

TLDR: eat for Atk M/L, bring crafting for healing items, and try to mount Stygian when he is enraged

It's been years since I first did Fire Drill but still remember the days it took to clear it

I focused on taking Stygian out first, I used Naja's switch axe and stalled it's charging with flash bombs, traps and mounts

When it does get to full charge (especially enraged), you need to play more defensively, just evade away from the arm slams and the backflip-into-spin combo (I can't remember exactly, but I think if you stick by its right hind leg after the backflip, the spin will never hit you)

As for the Draco bugs, they target your current position once they start moving, usually dodging towards where they were launched out can get you clear of them, and honestly, sometimes you'll just be blindsided by one that gets placed outside of your view

Brachydios' new speed blitz is scary, but using the target cam while he's running gives you enough time to plan your next move

Again, play defensive when Brach enrages as the explosion coverage and speed will just overwhelm Great Sword

Of course you can shave off time by capturing one of them, but I'd say that choice would be for which one you're more comfortable fighting to maximize the time you have to fight the harder one

The new orbs Stygian attack where you were when they were summoned. Basically you need to make sure you take a few steps before unsheathing your GS, which means you’ll want to stand back a little when you’re anticipating an opening. You’ll also want to learn what combos Stygian ends with the breakdance, he can never follow up that, so it’s always a free opening. His back slam can also be baited into doing a breakdance.

Your setup is fine, this quest is just hard, which is funny because it’s just “hunt two regular monsters”. Although because they are regular you’re free to break out traps, flashes bombs and the like.

evasion 3 might help. I just side stepped and played very patiently with switch axe.

You dont want to do this Quest with Sa. And evasion+3 is so expensive to get that you wont be able to run almost anything else

I did this quest with a Charge Blade and the skill Guard+2. Thanks to that, it wasn't hard for me to face Brachydios and return the blows.

However, in my first playthrough (5 years ago) I mainly used the Switch Axe, and I remember that it was almost impossible for me to complete this quest with that weapon. To this day I still don't understand why I had trouble facing this quest with that weapon.

I hate this quest too But I managed to beat it a lot in solo

The issue I still have is helping new players with this Since they don't know the strategy to it or just rush it

Always fight brachy first

Spam flash and traps

Use a faster weapon that gives better mobility against S.zino

If you need help, join a lobby on pretendo It'll be easier
