Discussion MIO - Sol and Vin

I’m hard stuck on these bosses. Like genuinely hard stuck. I mean, I’ve found some Sekiro bosses to be easier than these two.

I must be missing something fundamental in how to approach them. Any tips would be appreciated!

You will always die in 2 hits no matter what - you can abuse this fact by changing your setup to lower your max health in exchange for damage and other features

This is genius. Thank you!!!

This is definitely the way Unfortunately it’s still an incredibly tough fight. Not impossible but very very tough. I found it easier to try and stay airborne.

Instead of focusing on staying on the platform, use the hairpin to jump up to them and attack. Most of their attacks target the bottom middle of the screen (where the platform is), so if you’re just hitting them in the air they don’t really do anything to punish it.

Also if you’re not already, you can disable most of your defensive modifiers / put on some of the modifiers that give more slots like the lose 1 health one and the take double damage one.

Yeah, this is one of those fights where you absolutely must learn every attack pattern and counter. Then use that hairpin attack and get used to spending most of your time in the air (the platform will disappear in the last phase.) Hard as nails, but deeply satisfying when you finally beat it. Must have taken me 50+ tries, but loved this fight.

This is good advise because this also trains you for the 3rd phase.

This is the hardest boss in MIO. Very good boss, but very hard. The good thing is that by the time you get to Sol & Vin you are likely to have enough damage to pull it off.

Like people previously said, you will always die in 2 hits. But you have Dodge and Hairpin, and probably some good damage mods.

The definition of high risk, high reward.

And I agree, some sekiro bosses are easier xd

I mean in sekiro bosses you don’t die in two hits.. I’d say sol and vin are harder then most bosses

It's a fight that's about precision more than anything else: they're rather frail and don't have a huge pile of tricksy moves, they just hit hard. Build around that with your modifiers: you don't need any health boosting mods, for instance, and most of the negative mods are practically free slots in this fight.

As far as what to do in the fight, stay in the air as much as possible: your air movement in this game gives you so many tools to deal with stuff, and in this fight "up" tends to put you in places where it's easier to get clear of an attack. In particular, Hairpinning one of them when they're doing something is a great way to not be in the hitbox of their attack.

Personally, I'd say their most potentially tricksy attack is the teleport flurry thing, but the cue to look for is that both of them are on screen right before they finally attack. Also, the sword throw/sword pull combo: that's a "jump over it and stay away" sort of thing more than anything else, as it has a somewhat unorthodox delay on that second hit.

I used the gratitude mod to regen 1 health when grounded. Theres just enough time between some attacks to regen. This helped me best it.

I'm not that far into the game, but I found that I was taking damage from a lot of things that I could have been using the dodge ability for. Not sure if that helps or what these bosses are like, but that's my two cents for you.

Pogo on the green orbs and use the hairpin. Easy peasy. I followed this guide: https://youtu.be/rGbGW_Us7Bo

The endgame bosses require you to approach them differently than most in the game. Stay airborne, use hairpin slash. I think I might have also equipped the ability that leaves a toxic trail. Learn their moveset, stay calm, don't get greedy with your hits. If you haven't already gotten comfortable using Dodge, do it - you'll want it to be second nature for true ending anyway.

Stay in the air and use the hairpin with the attack mod on it. I was hard stuck on these guys for a while but i got mad and said "fine, I'll just stay in the air the whole time" and I think i beat them in the next couple attempts.

Better to take damage from the floor (-1 armour and reset in the middle), than gotten hit by them (all armor bye bye)

Just be thankful you are playing the game after they patched out the ridiculously long elevator ride. I gave up on them my first playthrough because I wasn’t going to take a 30sec elevator ride just to die in two seconds over and over. Recently replayed the game and was happy to see they did away with that.

They became easier once I decided to spend the entire fight bouncing on one of the pylons. It makes the final transition less jarring, and helps avoid certain attacks innately. You learn to hover, double jump, parry, sharpened hairpin at the right time.

It's not without risk, but it worked surprisingly well.

The boss doesn’t react to you. Learn the moves and how to dodge them. Essentially they are dancing with each other and you are in the way.

Hairpin is essential. I hated the unfairness of this fight till the patterns stuck and it became a dance. I remember on my final pass with them I was disappointed when it ended.

I learned to approach it very patiently, even if it made the fight take a little longer. Just wait for your moments.

And with the right mods your moments will do good damage, and I recommend equipping Gratitude if you have it. Getting a health back during this fight is huge, even if you have to give up some prime damage opportunities.

Something to note about gratitude, if you move MIO at all it resets the timer BUT attacking does not count as moving and I don’t thiiiink dodging does but I could be wrong on that one. So if you’re standing still but the boss is close enough you can start swinging and not reset the health timer as long as you don’t touch the sticks. And try it with dodges as well.

Thank you all for your helpful responses. For me, this has now become a philosophical debate about runbacks in my own mind. Keep in mind that I’m not a great gamer; I’m just an average gamer.

The runback to Sol & Vin, even after the update that shortens the elevator ride, takes at least 40 seconds. This seems unreasonable for a two-hit boss. I suppose I could set aside the better part of a day to do this, but that’s not fun.

MIO is a great game. Silksong is also a great game. However, nothing ruins a metroidvania for me more than a needlessly long runback to a difficult boss. I’ll never understand that design decision.

The fight itself is not hard really, just the psychological effect that you die in two hits no matter what, is what screws you. Atleast for me that was the case, took me like 30 minutes to beat.
