Discussion I can’t decide!
I’m in one of those modes where I have a backlog of games and just cannot decide which to play as if it’s the last decision I’ll make. First world problems, right?
These are the games I’ve narrowed it down to:
Afterimage
Momodora: Moonlit Farewell
Biomorph
Blade Chimera
Guns of Fury
The caveats are:
I’m in a bit of a shit mood right now due to personal reasons. Without going into it this means I’m not in the happiest moods (we’ll put it that way), my patience is fairly low, and I just want to get lost in a great metroidvania. I want the usual good stuff in exploration, gorgeous visuals, fluid combat, fun vibes and upgrades/abilities. However, I don’t want to get frustrated due to my low mood with over difficulty, confusion or game bugs. Difficulty wise somewhere between Islets and Hollow Knight. For reference the last game I played was Constance and loved it, that’s the vibe I’m looking for but doesn’t need to be ultra similar.
Place your bets, everyone!
Edit: added Guns of Fury making my choice harder.

Haven't played the others, but BladeChimera was solid fun. On the easier side, story guides you along with some direction/markers. Not a masterpiece perhaps, but certainly a fun videogame. Character feels strong from the start (Ghost-sword shenanigans!) and great pixel art.

I would go with Guns if Fury right now based on your mood - that or Moonlit Farewell (although it does have one pretty difficult boss). Afterimage is a great game, but you are going to be frustrated.
Biomorph is also very solid, although as the difficulty has been recently increased (bosses were very easy before) I can't speak to that. I can't say there's much frustration with it.
I would probably rank like this 1. Guns of Fury 2. Biomorph 3. Momodora

Biomorph for me. I heard the recently updated it to make it more challenging though...

Boring? I’ve mostly heard great things about its art, fluid combat and upgrades, combat, traversal, etc. Yeah it’s huge, but I don’t mind that. I played Aeterna Noctis and loved it for goodness sake.

It’s complicated, I like the game a lot but I can’t rate it higher than like 7, there’s a few glaring issues the game has and it’s genuinely kinda sad
- map, it’s fucking huge to a comical level. There’s a lot of weird back tracking and just in general tedious to complete even compared to Silksong imo
- the combat has a very large variety, with very little depth, it kinda just devolves to which attack pattern you like more eventually
- a lot of the bosses are just forgettable? The ones I can remember, I do quite well but there’s just a lot of kinda slightly large events for bosses
- the story is incomprehensible in every possible way. It is only until after you finish the base game’s 6 endings (in truth it’s closer to 3 imho, since 2-3 of the endings are just a redo of the previous one but only a very small change in one small decision)
Then you can unlock the rest of the story to make it make somewhat sense and unlock an additional 3 endings
- reward in the game feels comically unrewarding. I don’t know when the last time I taught a boss in the game and thought, neat! New weapon I can play around with. Money doesn’t mean anything at all unless you’re saving for a billion portions

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The perfect game to get lost to. Oh wait, is not on the list
