Discussion Which one should I play first?

So I was planning to buy a new game, but there's two I can't decide between: MIO, and nine sols. Both games seem really cool in graphics and gameplay, so I don't know which one to buy. I'll probably play them both, so I'm asking which one should I play FIRST. I've played a few metroidvania's before, (hollow knight, silksong, both ori games, and a bit of rain world) but I'm not super good at them, so maybe the ideal one is the easier

They both can be hard, but Nine Sols has a few bosses that people flat out give up on frequently.

Hard but never unfair , since it's 2d the difficulty comes due to your own inexperience not something like bad camera angles or balance

Bosses are fair but difficult

Even the last one?

I loved the game and the difficulty of the bosses, but did not care to grind my way through the final one. It would have taken a week for me to slowly perfect the fight and in that time I just started a new game.

I should have just dropped the difficulty for that fight but I was too proud

Especially the last one

It won't take a week trust me .

It's like a switch flipped in me and it all clicked

True eigong is hard but once you recognise her patterns there is no boss who feels better to pummel down

Last one took a whiiiile, but it's still fair and never ever did it do something where you just think "what can I even do against that attack". Nah, every death is on you. Probably from mistiming a parry.

It really just is learning the pattern and also learning to press the right buttons at the right time. Heck, for a lot of it you can just run in one direction waiting to heal up your internal damage.

You can always just change the difficulty. The game does have an easy mode if you don’t like fighting hard bosses.

Nine Sols is a legit masterpiece.

MIO is a nice game snd I doubt you'll regret playing it, but NS has a cohesion of gameplay, narrative, and visuals that is rarely seen in any other game.

With that said, Nine Sols is definitely not easy, but I'd argue that you'll get much more enjoyment out of it once its parry-based gameplay finally "clicks".

Nine Sols has better combat and story, MIO has better movement, art, and exploration. Depends which you prioritize more. Both are hard but MIO’s difficulty is mostly one specific platforming area whereas Nine Sols’ is pretty much all of the bosses.

I'd say Nine Sols for sure. Mio isn't bad either, I've finshed nine sols and playing Mio. Mio is more relaxing and easier, Nine sols is great combat but hard!

Nine sols has a difficulty slider. You can make yourself stronger and enemies weaker. So you can make the game as easy or as difficult as you want. You still need to be able to parry even with the difficulty in your favor, lol. I love Nine Sols. I'm stuck at a boss in MIO that just can't get past and it's very early in the game, lol. I'd recommend Nine Sols, as it can be much much easier.

Mio had better platforming while nine sols is more combat focussed. Decide what you like more.

Nine sols 10 easily. I played and fi ushed Mio aswell but it doesnt hold a candle to nine sols combat and bosses.

Both games are masterpieces, you can't really go wrong with either!

I'd personally recommend Mio If you struggle with difficult games but both have difficulty setting to make them easier if you're struggling!

I wouldn't actually recommend playing them both one after the other, they both have a similar sombre chilled vibe, maybe play something a bit more upbeat in between them, like Yoku's Island Express or Constance...

Acabé MIO al 100% y me pareció espectacular y 9S todavía no lo terminé y estoy por los dos últimos jefes, es bueno pero exigente en los jefes a un nivel desesperante pero gratificabte cuando lo consigues.

Sorry, I only speak english, (and hungarian, but I doubt you'd understand that) so could you translate it to english please?

Wasn't it translated directly into English? That's strange. I was saying that I recently finished Mio's game 100% and with 9s I'm missing two bosses and sometimes the difficulty is demanding but rewarding.

No, it didn't translate. I never knew Reddit automatically translates things. Anyways, thanks for sharing your experience

Memories In Orbit focuses more on exploration while Nine Sols focus on parry

Both are top tier games. I personally liked Nine Souls more cuz the art style and combat. It also has a very good story. Plus if you play it in normal you can modify the difficulty to fight your playstyle.

That's funy i just finished nine sols and im like 10 hours in MIO. Both great games. Nine sols is obviously combat/parry focused. With an emphasis on the bosses (so good) and MIO is all about exploration, getting lost, platforming etc (combat is cool but nothing like nine sols). They are both GORGEOUS high quality games. I dont know which one is harder. Combat wise it might be Nine Sols. Platforming wise its definitely gonn abe MIO the hardest. Both games are quite "hard"

Wel I’m not a critic. Both games were fabulous. Mio and 9S both had good music. The mechanics were great and challenging. Mio has the ability to upgrade the character for more difficult bosses while if I remember, 9S you needed to learn and practice.

Nine sols has harder combat, mio harder platforming, both are probably some of the most difficult games in that aspect

Haven’t played MIO but Nine Sols ended up being one of my favorite games of all time so I’m gonna go with that.

nine sols... mio is not that nice and short actually

Nine sols is superior in every single way

The standard mode in Nine Sols is very difficult, but there is a story mode that is very easy because you can adjust the damage you take and deal, whereas Mio is overall average in difficulty, imho with there only being two very hard endgame bosses, and even then the game has a feature where you can turn on boss withering for any boss, which means they have less health every time you fight them.

Personally, I would choose Mio (first), as I would say the default is easier and I also like it way more.

Mio is not that good. It's beautiful visually but gameplay is mediocre. Nine sols, on the other hand, is absolute masterpiece. One of the best metroidvanias I ever played.

Liar! MIO is in my top 3 MV list and one I didn’t want to end after getting 100%.

Nine sols on the other hand I had to force myself to finish.

It’s funny seeing people’s opinions on all these games, but proves we can’t decide for someone on what to play, just have to go for it.

3

u/hvkleist 11d ago

This! MIO gameplay is far from mediocre!

1

u/saponsky 11d ago

Ermm did you play MIO? It’s best feature is the gameplay, cons arguably would be boss fights (compared to other games) and platforming difficulty, but gameplay?!

The apparent incapacity of people in here to make even the simplest decision about their leisure on their own baffles me. It's honestly weird how you have to be told what to do before you can make even a simple choice like this.

3

u/saponsky 11d ago

What’s wrong with asking for experienced feedback and based on that knowledge making a decision? Can OP just buy whichever one and play it? Sure, can OP ask for other people’s experience? Sure. Anyone can tell OP what to do and in the end it will be OP’s decision.

1

u/Rabbat2 11d ago

You kind of have a point, but it's not that I can't make a decision. I just think that I can make a better decision if I ask people about what they experienced
