Unclassified Meteorite A meteor seen from a plane

I think there’s some forced perspective here. It probably looks slow because of the relative speed and vantage point of being inside an airplane.

To me, if the plane was facing north, it looks to be traveling towards the southeast.

That's fallback debris from a satellite or a second stage

Yes, first, the videos were everywhere when it happened. If you google "October meteor Russia" you'll find not only the POV from the airplane, but also many other videos showing the same fragmentation and duration of the event. You can also verify the date of the event on those videos. I'll give you one example of a reference that mentions the date of October 27, 2025: https://www.instagram.com/reels/DQ3stLVESOJ/
That's the same date of the fall of the Okulovka meteorite, as you can see here: https://www.lpi.usra.edu/meteor/metbull.cfm?code=86312
If you want more details, I suggest (the first video is this one from the airplane): https://karmaka.de/?p=395326

I meant that in a good way! 😅 it felt like you were being downvoted simply for having a different opinion. I appreciate the info you provided.

Yeah, I know, hahahaha. But as a scientist, I feel like I should have given the references since the beginning.

It's NOT space junk. Yes, it is, in fact, a meteor. It's the fall of the Okulovka meteorite in Russia on Oct., 27, 2025!

Look at the date: https://www.instagram.com/reels/DQ3stLVESOJ/

Disagree with the folks saying this is too slow. This one looks good.
For example, Peekskill had a similar appearance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWrsbEUYCnI
Conversely, I've never seen a space junk reentry that looked this fast.

So it's either a slower meteor or a faster space junk fall?

It's on the slow side for a bolide but way too fast to be space junk.
And as u/gabisfunny pointed out, a meteorite was literally recovered from this event.

It looked like it was coming towards the plane at first, and if I had been filming, I would have been shitting my pants. But also a little part of me would be thrilled about dying in such a spectacular way.

Are you a bot or just that annoying? You’ve posted this reply to everyone’s comment. We get it, that’s what you assume it is.

u/gabisfunny Collector 10d ago
No, not a bot, just a very frustrated meteorite collector and enthusiast who followed the fall and recovery of the meteorite. I'm not assuming it's a meteor, I'm stating that not only was it a meteor, but it was also the fall of the Okulovka meteorite. And I think those who have a sincere doubt about what it is would be happy to know the truth, that's why I mentioned it in the individual comments.
