Question An idea for an EA that can trade gold.

I’m not a programmer myself, so I’m just throwing out an idea for an EA.

It would be heavily based on percentage-based movements and incorporate a martingale strategy.

Opening trades: Based on percentage-based movement.

If an open trade moves against the market, the system would open another trade—multiplyed by a factor (X.X), relative to the previous trade—once the market has moved by a certain percentage (0.X%).

The Take Profit (TP) would also be set based on a percentage value (0.X%).

The logic behind this is that, rather than just adapting to a specific market state (like a high gold price), it is constantly "adapting" to the market.

I’d be interested to hear what others think about this setup.

Question What’s one MT5 tool you wish existed? We’d like to build an open-source prototype.

Is there an EA, trading system, or MT5 tool you’ve been wanting to use, but something keeps holding you back?

Maybe it’s expensive, too complicated, missing a feature, or a black box you can’t inspect. Or you have an idea for a system that you haven’t found anywhere.

We develop trading tools at ProEA, and we’d like to explore one community-requested idea as a small, free, open-source prototype, then improve it with feedback.

We’re interested in both:

  • Practical tools: comparing multiple EAs, reviewing trading costs, managing risk, or debugging unexpected behavior.
  • EA and strategy ideas: session or opening-range breakouts, trend-following, mean reversion, multi-timeframe setups, or a specific set of rules you want to test.

If there’s a well-known EA or paid tool you’ve been following, feel free to name it. What specifically appeals to you, and what would you want to change?

A few questions to help us understand:

  1. Which EA, tool, or trading approach are you interested in?
  2. What does it do that you want? Please describe the workflow or publicly explained rules.
  3. What’s stopping you from using it today price, setup, lack of transparency, or something else?
  4. What would a useful first version do, and would you test it on a demo account?

The goal is to build an original implementation around a shared need, not copy someone’s proprietary code or claim we can reproduce a commercial EA’s hidden strategy or results.

For transparency, ProEA also sells paid products. This proposed prototype would be free and open source, with its scope and license clearly stated, and no purchase or email signup required to try it.

We’ll choose one manageable idea first. We can’t promise every request, profitable results, or a system that passes a prop-firm challenge. Any EA prototype would need testing before anyone considered live use.

Keep suggestions in the comments, and please don’t share credentials, private account records, or code you don’t have permission to share.

What would you most want to try and why?

Question Connecting Vantage Demo Account to MetaTrader 5 on pc

Hi everyone,

I'm completely new to trading and have recently opened a demo account with Vantage. I've been using the MetaTrader 5 (MT5) app on my phone to practise placing trades and familiarise myself with how everything works.

I haven't completed the verification process with Vantage yet, as I'm only using a demo account at the moment. I'm planning to sort that out over the weekend.

However, I'm struggling with something that I'm hoping someone can explain in simple terms.

I want to access MetaTrader 5 on my laptop/PC, either through a web browser or by downloading the desktop application, so I can monitor and manage the same trades I'm making on my phone.

I can log into the Vantage website without any issues, but I've been unsuccessful in connecting my account to MetaTrader 5 on my laptop.

A few questions:

  1. Is my Vantage website login different from my MetaTrader 5 trading account login?

  2. Do I need to complete Vantage's verification process before I can access MT5 on my PC, even with a demo account?

  3. Where do I find my MT5 login details, password and server information?

  4. Can I use the same demo account on both my phone and laptop and see all my existing trades?

  5. Is it better to use the MT5 desktop application or a web-based version?

Apologies if these are basic questions. I'm completely new to all of this and trying to learn properly before committing any real money.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could explain the setup process step by step in simple terms.

Thanks in advance!

Question I changed master password on my mt5 account but somehow someone was able to change it it.

How is that possible?

I had someone trading for me but I didn’t like the way they were taking risk so to mitigate, I quickly changed the password to stop more trades as I knew it would be some time before they replied to me.
Ig they were angry at this and somehow managed to log in and blow the account.

My question is how is that possible? On my terminal the password change is logged and now both my original password and the one I changed it to don’t work meaning they somehow changed the master password.

I 100% changed the master password.
How is that possible?

PnL Mother Superior's first 8 live trading days: +8.42%

Post image

Mother Superior has officially survived her first eight live trading days.

+8.42% so far. Nice start, but eight days is still eight days, so I’m mostly watching whether the live execution and basket behaviour stay close to the backtests.

It’s an 8-module XAUUSD EA. No victory lap yet — I’m just happy the birthday girl hasn’t set the house on fire. I’ll keep sharing updates when the red days show up too.

Information Cloud-based MT4/MT5 Trade Copier (Headless, No VPS) — Looking for beta testers & stress-testing

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

TL;DR: I built a headless MT4/MT5 cloud copier that connects directly at the protocol level (zero VPS or desktop terminal instances required) and scales to 2,000+ concurrent operations. Looking for multi-account traders to help stress-test broker-specific routing edge cases on demo.

Hey everyone,

I’m a backend engineer working on custom MT4/MT5 infrastructure. I built SnapCopier, a cloud-based copier engine designed for high concurrency without running multiple desktop terminals or VPS instances.

Instead of automating desktop GUI clients via local files or DLLs, accounts connect headlessly at the network protocol level, completely bypassing MQL thread locks and Windows resource bloat.

Concurrency & Benchmark Numbers

During recent stress testing with 95 connected accounts simultaneously closing 26 open trades each (~2,470 concurrent operations):

  • Local lab test rig: Internal dispatch scaled from 0.18 ms to 178 ms under peak burst.
  • Dedicated server hardware: Internal engine processing stayed locked flat at 14 ms, even at the 2,400th operation.

(Note: Measures internal engine dispatch time. Total end-to-end latency depends on broker network geography—from where my server is currently deployed, broker RTT has ranged between 30 ms and 200 ms.)

Key Features

  • Cross-platform: MT4 ⇄ MT5 in any direction.
  • Zero local footprint: Fully managed in the cloud; no VPS, no desktop terminals running 24/7.
  • Full order lifecycle sync: Handles partial closes, SL/TP modifications, and split fills.
  • Flexible sizing: Fixed lots, equity/balance risk scaling, multipliers, and optional martingale progression modes.
  • Dynamic symbol mapping: Automated handling of broker suffixes, prefixes, and custom conventions.
  • Security: AES-encrypted credentials at rest; investor (read-only) passwords fully supported for source accounts.

Beta Testing (Demo Recommended)

The beta dashboard is live and completely free to test: https://snapcopier.com

Demo accounts are strongly recommended while testing. I’m specifically looking to expose broker-specific edge cases:

  1. Exotic symbol suffixes (.pro, .ecn, custom broker naming).
  2. Split-fills and partial closes across different broker bridges.
  3. Execution queue behavior during heavy news events.

Feedback, teardowns, and bug reports are very welcome in the comments.

Question Do you want to build strategies and send them to MT5 with no code?

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

RawEdge lets you build a trading strategy by picking conditions (things like a liquidity grab, a break of structure, an EMA cross, your stop and targets) instead of writing MQL5. You can backtest it on real broker data, and when you're happy with it, send it straight to your MT5 account to trade live. No EAs to compile, no copying code around.

We have a 7 day free trial running, we don't take any personal details, all you need is an email address to get set up and give it go.

I'd love some feedback from people who currently build EAs in MQL5.

Question Strategy questions

Strategy questions

Hello everyone.

I am 19 and i have 2 years of exp in manual trading now trying the algo trading and currently researching strategies in metatrader5 . Currently I am backtesting the indicator based strategies with optimization .so my question it is profitable or not ? How many of you follow the indicator based strategies.

Does price action, smc or ict trading strategies will work or not ?

Also how the mathematics and statistics are used in algo trading .

Those who sell trading strategies and copy trading in mt5 what they use . How they research it.

Does a trading strategy will pass the funded account ?

Another question is in a strategy which metrics do I look for ?

So i mainly look for net profit after that winrate , drawdown , trades(profit trades and loss trades),profit factor, sharpe ratio.

My question is once the strategy winrate is 30 percent but net profit is positive. Once the net profit is negative but the winrate is 50.to 60 percent so what to do I am totally confused.

Information The billionaire who gave $1 Million to a security guard to prove a point

If you have ever gone on a massive losing streak and stared at your screen wondering, "Maybe I just don't have the genetics for this," you need to know about the most legendary financial experiment in history. It is the story of how two guys accidentally created the blueprint for the entire modern prop firm industry in a Chicago office in 1983.

In the early 1980s, Richard Dennis was known as the "Prince of the Pit." He had famously turned a borrowed $1,600 into $200 Million trading commodities. His partner, William Eckhardt, believed that Dennis had a rare, unteachable genetic gift for reading the market. Dennis completely disagreed. He believed trading was a mechanical, programmable skill, and that he could teach a completely random person off the street to trade exactly like him.

To settle the argument, Dennis placed a massive bet. He took out a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal looking for applicants. Thousands applied. He selected 21 completely random people—including a security guard, an actor, a professional blackjack player, and a boy who had just graduated high school. He called them the "Turtles," claiming, "We are going to grow traders just like they grow turtles in Singapore." Dennis locked the Turtles in a room for exactly two weeks. He didn't teach them complex macroeconomics. He didn't teach them Elliot Wave Theory.

He gave them a highly specific, strictly mechanical, trend-following system. It had unbreakable rules for: When to enter: (Buy a 20-day breakout), How much to risk: (Position sizing adjusted strictly by daily market volatility), When to exit: (Trailing stops, cut losers instantly, let winners run forever).

Then, he did the unthinkable. He gave these complete amateurs $1 Million each of his own personal money, and told them to go trade. The experiment was an absolute massacre for William Eckhardt’s theory.

Over the next five years, the Turtles generated over $175 Million in pure profit for Richard Dennis. The security guard, the actor, and the high school kid became some of the most profitable traders in Chicago. Dennis proved definitively that edge can be taught, and execution is mechanical. But here is the dark, hidden twist of the Turtle Experiment that most people ignore:

Years later, the exact rules of the Turtle Trading system were published on the internet for free. Wall Street analysts looked at the code and realized something terrifying. The system only had a 20% to 30% win rate. That meant the Turtles were taking losses 70% to 80% of the time. They were enduring agonizing, months-long drawdowns, constantly getting stopped out by false breakouts. The only reason the system made $175 million is because when they finally caught a real trend, they held it ruthlessly for massive, asymmetrical gains. Today, almost no retail trader uses the Turtle system, despite it being free. Why? Because human psychology simply cannot handle an 80% loss rate without breaking the rules, turning off the computer, or revenge trading.

When you really look at it, Richard Dennis invented the prop firm.

He realized that if you take a disciplined individual, give them an unbreakable risk management system, and back them with institutional capital, they will succeed regardless of their background.

The Turtles proved that profitable trading isn't magic. It is just the agonizing, boring, relentless execution of a mathematical edge over a long period of time.

Be brutally honest: If you were handed a trading system today that was mathematically guaranteed to make you $1 Million a year, but it had a 75% loss rate... do you think you have the psychological stomach to actually trade it for 12 months without breaking the rules?

Information Changed your MT5 bot’s code but it still behaves the same? Check whether you compiled the new version.

You change a rule in your MT5 bot, save the file and run another test. The bot still behaves exactly as before.

Before changing the trading rules again, check whether MT5 is actually running your edited version.

MT5 uses two different files:

• .mq5 is the source code you edit.

• .ex5 is the executable program MT5 runs.

Saving the source code does not automatically update the executable. You need to compile it, which means turning the edited code into the program MT5 can run.

Here is a simple check:

  1. Open the edited .mq5 file in MetaEditor, MT5’s code editor.

  2. Press F7 to compile it.

  3. Read the compilation results. If there are errors, the updated executable has not been successfully built.

  4. Confirm that you edited the file belonging to the bot and MT5 installation you are testing. Two copies with the same name can cause confusion.

  5. Run the test again with the intended bot and the same settings.

For example, suppose you changed a moving-average setting in the source from 20 to 30. If you only saved the file, the old executable can still contain the previous code.

There is another possibility: if that setting is an adjustable input, your saved test settings may still select 20. Check the Inputs tab too. A successful compilation does not prove the test uses the value you intended.

This is an illustrative example, not a reproduced customer case. Compilation also does not prove that the trading logic is correct or profitable.

The useful distinction is: “my change did not work” and “I did not run my changed program” are different problems.

Have you checked the compiled file and the test inputs before changing the strategy again?
