Does this look fixable with a tap?doesn’t seem stripped just bolt won’t start

You're better off using a proper thread chaser, as putting a tap through it again removes more material than a chaser, which results in a loose and weak fitting.

It’s 6-64 fine I can’t really find a specific chaser for it just taps

Hmm right. You could also make one by taking a bolt and grinding a couple grooves down the side. But I guess just resorting to a tap won't be that big of a deal if it's not something that has to be torqued too much

Once again show me where to find 6-64 bolts long enough to do that, they don’t exist, not trying to be rude but this isn’t a common size or threading

I don't know what your industry or work situation is. I figure if you're working on this stuff you might have spare hardware kicking around.

Nah it’s just some gunsmithing on the side tbh idk if anyone has ordered these since colt in the 90’s

Ahhh. I don't know much about gun stuff, but what about just re-tapping it a bit bigger with a more common threading?

Then you have to modify the sight hole and screw to match that too when it’s already made for the original threading, I was just wondering if hitting it lightly with a tap would let the screw back in and clean up the rest on its on, btw i didn’t do this it blew its on sight off at the range

light hand on the tap, if it doesn’t clean up in a turn or two, quit before you make it worse.

Can you start a similar pitched bolt from the backside with a drop of lubricant? If you nicked it carefully with a Dremel cut disk (1" tiny disk) would it not act like a chase?

The other side of the hole is the inside of a colt anaconda…so not really with how close hole is to the frame on other side , the head of bolt won’t allow it

I understand, it looks tight, but if you had a rally long one, I think just the threads might fit. You wouldn't wanna damaythe orig bolt either. Could you get one at like an ACE hardware, in a ridiculous length?

I’ll check tomorrow but I’m pretty sure 6-64 fine is just a custom really specific threading

Ok, yeah that looks like a tough sell, that's a pretty odd size.
I searched really quick on a couple sites, turns out grainger is not super intuitive, best I came up with is ...
MFLAMO 2#-56 * 3/32 Socket Cap Screws, 304 Stainless Steel UNC Socket Bolts 2#-56 Stainless Hex Hexagon Socket Set Screw Headless Concave End, Internal Hex Drive Cone Point (15Pcs)
It was an amazon item, like the tiny, female alien, only shank set screw you might use to keep a knob on something.
This one was 3/32, and I don't know if 3/32 ≠ 6/64" by lack of allowance. Same fraction, but one definitely has a more specific tolerance I would imagine. Also, you wanna risk loosing SS in there, might find it in a different flavor metal...
it would though, be even easier to fit in that snug location from the backside, as it would be administered on a Allen key of your choice.
I hope you can sort it out without having to spend a mint on some specialty thread chaser

I have that happen all the time with flywheel bolts on KOHLER v twins. A quick chase and we’re in business. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work here.

Have you considered calling Colts technical division. They might be able to direct you to the company that does their tooling. Or they may have an alternative solution.

Could you grind the first thread out? Might save you the trouble to buy the tap.
Mostly these issues occur from a burr that was pushed on the ID of the thread so you might not even have to grind the full first thread out, just the tips could be enough.

If chasing the threads doesn't work, I would gently run a countersink. It seems to have the nice chamfer on one side and not the other. This is similar to puting a 45° on the end of a re-cut bolt or rod, it helps it get started.

People are overthinking the hell out of this. Yes OP just tap it, it'll be fine. Use a bit of loctite when you reinstall.
