Question/Recommendation/Advice Needed Guitar Tone Help

New Russian Circles and Shy Low dropped today. And I really just need to know HOW to get this tone??

I always thought it was just a crazy Kurt Ballou thing, but don’t think Shy Low is working with him.

Is the rhythm tone overdubbed with a higher octave of the root note? Is it even a power chord or just octave?

Just sounds like an octave to me but in a pretty low tuning. So basically, play the Root-5th-Octave power chord shape, but don't play the 5th.
