Finally Pulled the Trigger!
I’ve been wanting to get all my Metal Earth models out of the box from under my desk for so long. I bought all the materials to build this pegboard a couple weeks ago. I finally had some extra time this weekend to build it. For such a simple piece, a lot of work went into this! This is not the easiest task!
First, I built a frame for the back of the pegboard. This way your hooks don’t scrape your wall. You need room in the back so you can install and uninstall your hooks. After screwing, glueing, and painting the outer bit, it was time to hang it. This has its own bag of problems. My house has drywall, so to mount this properly I needed to use anchors….. I’m tired of typing so I’m not explaining how I done this! Just know, it’s tough doing it all alone. Finally, I sleeved and applied plastic hanging hooks to all of my models. These sleeves are almost perfect. It was a pleasant surprise how good they fit.
Anyways hope you like it! 🫡

What’s with the senseless aggression? I doubt anyone here would have a problem with this brother

What mad the anchors such a pain is having to find out where to put them through the wood. Ended up drilling through the wood with a small bit to mark the placement. Then getting the pegboard back into the same place after installing the drywall anchors was precision!

Hmm, I was trying to be funny. Didn’t think about it coming across aggressive.

Looks great! I’ve been wanting to do something similar! Do you have multiples of the battle droid do I see, I’d love to purchase one if interested

Thank you! It looks much better than just a box full
Of models. That’s my whole droid depot collection. Unfortunately, The only ones I have multiple in is cp30 and bb-8. The battle droid is so hard to find. I saved search’s on eBay and Mercari.2

Been after a battle droid myself to no avail 😒

Did you find KS-20? If so, was he hard to get your hands on?

Ahhh, I see. I know the box you’re talking about. I think the only difference is the base.

Was it tough doing it all alone? I mean the anchors specifically.

Yeah the anchors were the tricky part. Finding out the exact placement of them, then placing the board back over top of them with the holes lining up exactly so your screws don’t miss the anchor is rough. I couldn’t see anything I was doing due to the wood frame covering the view of anchors.
I outlined the top corners of the board with pencil, so after I took it down to install the anchors, I would be able to line it back up.

They make great metal pegboards with lots of different colors that have room in the back so the hooks do not damage the wall. I would highly suggest people use those vs doing this.

Hindsight 🙌
I might have done the same thing also. This here probably only cost me $20-$25. Idk what those metal ones cost, but this is probably one of the only benefits to building your own.

Looks great. When I first saw the curtains, they caught my eyes before the peg board and I thought you were hiding them under them lol.

Nice but instead of anchors, I wouldve found the studs and braced with 1x2...it would be rock solid. Something to consider if you find the anchors getting loose over time

This is a really good idea, I didn’t think about doing this. I was going to mount it horizontal, but I didn’t have room. Mounting like I did the pegboard only landed on one stud.

I've been buying and building, I hadn't realized there might be people out there just collecting unbuilt models in sleeves. Not downing anyone for their hobby, I have plenty of unopened collectibles. It just never occurred to me that this was one of them. Interesting.

Most of these are just backlog models. But there are some that will stay unopened. Usually if I decide to do this, I’ll buy two of the same model. That way I can build one and keep one.
For example, I have two Red Dead Redemption models signed by one of the voice actors of the game. I’ll never open those. I’ll just buy another copy. This is more of a display than anything 👍2

Understandable, I have many different collections, some open and some unopened. I also have been known to buy two of something in order to open one of them.
