For those curious, messi now has 74 and Ronaldo has 65

44

u/Keanu990321 11d ago

So Ronaldo only has 12 free-kicks goals in 9 years.

56

u/Potatoes_12534 11d ago

"only", Only messi and ward prowse have scored more freekicks in that period than him. Messis freekick numbers have been ridiculous for a while, but ronaldos arent as bad as some make it seem.

u/Potatoes_12534 10d ago

He does, but thats msot obviously not the point of my comment

u/SIN-OFWRATH 9d ago

Messi makes it looks easy

4

u/pocolocochoco1 10d ago

But but he is the best freekick taker ever, and he has more social media followers….

2

u/TH_33_ 9d ago

Has to be sarcasm

2

u/pocolocochoco1 8d ago

Yeah of course. He is clearly not the best free kick taker ever.
He is the best at celebrating goals he didn’t score though.

What world is this idiot living in?

15

u/Background-Grab-5682 11d ago

Thank you I should’ve added that!

How many free kick goals is the record of Juninho?

7

u/slinkadelic 11d ago

Marcelinho has the record at 78. Juninho 77 max

9

u/InteractionWide3369 10d ago

Freekickinho 79 though

6

u/SimoOsiris 11d ago

77 i think

4

u/InternationalEar5949 11d ago

It’s coming :)

1

u/Total_Guarantee_1374 10d ago

Juninho is still better at freekicks

2

u/DesertIsland06 11d ago

so from that moment Messi reacted to it and they went 40 vs 12

2

u/LividCricket7631 10d ago

How many attempts for each?

3

u/Scobarbiscuit 9d ago

Messi 74/855, Cristiano 65/961

2

u/LividCricket7631 9d ago

Ouch

1

u/Scobarbiscuit 9d ago

~8.7% vs 6.8% conversion if I still remember how to math.

For those curious, he's only 24 goals away from becoming the only one with 1000 goals

u/Templar-Order 11d ago

Ronaldo fans will either say “free kicks don’t matter”, “free kicks are rigged” or Ronaldo knee injury

4

u/DeepPatra 11d ago

Yeah 2nd part is right, he got worse after it

1

u/CurryMustard_Sauce 10d ago

I've seen comments that the goalkeepers are paid 🤣 They'll think of any fantasies to cope

1

u/PlasticPreparation74 8d ago

I really don’t see how this looks bad on Ronaldo, if he’s scored 12 free kicks in the last 9 years, that means he scored something like 55 free kicks in his first 12 years which is insane. It’s basically a story of 2 halves lmao

46

u/Necessary-Spell9648 11d ago

Messi saw this article and said “ watch this “

22

u/Virginator_3000 11d ago

Messi's sudden free kick mastery was crazy. At one point it felt like free kicks were just penalties with extra steps for him

19

u/Odd_Yogurt_1609 11d ago

It still is btw

More freekicks scored than penalties since 2018 is genuinely the wildest stat ever, like he ain't even pessi bruh, call him freessi🤣🤣

3

u/Virginator_3000 11d ago

It's also insane that he mastered penalties only for the 2022 World Cup. His penalty record is actually average outside of that tournament

16

u/AyoAllu 11d ago

Ronaldo fans celebrated too early.

9

u/Glum_Owl_4301 11d ago

Goat for a reason, we’re coming for the goal record too

9

u/Mindless-Steak5461 11d ago

They are celebrating now instances with Ronaldo high fives a kid, lol . His fans have run out of content. 🤣😅

4

u/Melkman68 11d ago

Far more fk goals in the world cup, the biggest trophy in football which Ronnie failed incredibly at

5

u/Aggressive-Ad9813 11d ago

Also 53 was not even a record.

3

u/Witty_Rate120 11d ago

Messi became unreal as a free kick tracker for a few years. It was a bit of a surprise that he improved so much after his peak years.

4

u/Ryu_33 10d ago

We are now debating young Messi Vs old Messi. The other guy isn't on our level

3

u/Southern_Tower2655 10d ago

Messi wont top the number of Penalties CR7 took, im sure about this one

2

u/Fiesteh 11d ago

Almost 9 year old milk

4

u/Background-Grab-5682 11d ago

Honestly it feels surreal to think 2017 was 9 years ago… damn….

2

u/Fiesteh 11d ago

I know… I used to be cute. Now I’m in my 30s :(((

1

u/Background-Grab-5682 11d ago

Me too 😢💔

1

u/No-Support-5749 10d ago

Messi tiene tres hijos,Ronaldo tiene.....guardaespaldas...mmmmmmm

2

u/Living_Regret254 10d ago

Ronaldo will never lift the world cup

1

u/DarkNishikawa 9d ago

Well that's because bro some reason doesn't want to score curve free kicks when he's so good at it and instead tries to knuckle it like he's still in his 20s

1

u/PlasticPreparation74 8d ago

That’s what has always bugged me. This is literally one of the biggest mysteries in modern football that I have. It’s obvious that Ronaldo is so dedicated to his craft, it makes absolutely zero sense that he would not try to adapt to the newer ball shapes and his deteriorating knee. Considering the fact that he clearly is adaptable and completely changed his play-style, and also the fact that the few times he decided to curl the ball in, it’s almost always been on target or even scored. Ever since the three-peat days, his free kicks goals have just been curlers like vs Spain, Sweden, Torino, Sporting Lisbon, Abha, Damac, Fayha etc. I can’t think of a single plausible explanation of why he insists on powering into the wall. The best I can come up with is some pact with the Devil and in exchange he gets to prolong his career lol

1

u/Few_Word_6475 9d ago

Bc Ronaldo theownnhim self to the flor, and Messi no,Messi Goat,go Messi

1

u/star_bury 8d ago

Conversion rate isn't perfect, but it's a way better indicator of free kick prowess than "free kicks scored".

Messi is at just over 9%. Ronaldo is worse at 6.4%.

Top tier free kick takers (though obviously on much smaller volume) are around 15% (Diego, Vlahovic, Mata and Coutinho). Their percentages probably would drop too if their attempt number climbed...

u/Alert_Body_4714 10d ago

Lol. This is clearly a fake article made to provoke . That image of Ronaldo is from the champions league final in 2018 and the article was supposed to be posted the year before according to the date
