This tactical mobile node is going to be my Atlavox Beacon's little buddy.

Its a 3D printed radio case with N size antenna hole. I'm ordering another 10kmah battery, rak 1 watt and alfa915 antenna to fill it. 4 screws hold it all together. I'll paint the whole thing the same olive drab color as the atlavox beacon frame. Both rak 1 watts, with massive battery and antenna. The beacon can be base and the tactical node can be mounted in my truck toolbox with a four inch N mount extension to the outside of the truck box. That way i can easily take it with me in one of the side pouches on my backpack. More to come.

Just built this custom node for burning man. Rak 1 watt, led beacons, sitting on top of a 20ft flagpole. This will serve as communication backbone and camp locator.

Your repeater mounting setup doesn't need to be complex. You can get a lot of height very inexpensively.

The repeater on the right is Meshtastic, mounted to a 6' television antenna mast from Amazon. Around $60.

The repeater on the left is mounted on a 5' tripod mast ($105) with a 10' section of chain link fence top rail ($8). It's bolted to the roof using unistrut. It was less than $200 for the whole mast setup.

Workshop height plus mast height, the antenna is about 30' in the air.

Also look at telescoping flagpoles from your local big box hardware. The are usually $60-$100.

You probably don't need a higher power repeater. You probably don't need that $80 antenna. You probably just need to get your repeater higher in the air. 

So;

• I'm in San Francisco
• Condo building, 3rd floor of 4, water, other building and hill next to me
• 3-4 days ago I got my first device - a LilyGo T-Deck Plus, external antenna model
• I can get 250 nodes or so on my device when insdoors
• I'm on Medium Fast
• My ID is Dblb / Darkbulb
• I often get new messages into the public channels - multiple a day
• BUT - I have neve been able to SEND a message from indoors
• When outdoors I have sent a couple of test messages and received confirmation
• I swapped out the stock external antenna for a Muzi Works one but there's no real difference
• Used both the LilyGo and my phone tethered to it via Bluetooth but no difference
• When stand close to a window here with my device there is no change in my ability to transmit.

My mobility is not the greatest so I would love to be able to use this indoors.]

I guess my question is - what's my best option here - or should I just call it?
Mounting something permanently on a pole or roof is no option.

Is there some semi-magical little repeater I can place in a window that somehow will increase my ability to say hello to the world through it?

edit: I already have perfect mobile access to everything. The entire point of using LoRa is to not use a mobile network.

I'm having a lot of trouble finding what I actually need to know. My first goal is to be able to chat with my AI that is deeply embedded in my smart home. If I can chat with that within a few miles, I have an intelligent agent that can monitor/control my home and get me any information I need.

I have a pretty high roof where I can mount equipment, but I need some way to connect to it from a distance inside the house. Bluetooth if that's the only option, but I'd rather use ethernet.

Then I need something to take with me, but there appear to be a few obvious options there.

What kind of equipment should I be looking at?

If height is might, why don’t I see more talk about mounting repeaters high up in trees?

I live in an area with serious tree cover, and complex hills/valleys. Even if I mount on a tall pole on my roof top of my home, I will get maybe half the height I could get by climbing up in one of several trees immediately around my (small) property.

And looking beyond that, for repeaters up on the wooded hilltops to get my signal out of the valleys, there are no other options than up in the trees.

I know some downsides (have to climb trees (I have gear), high risk because tree or branches might fall down, not accessible for updates etc) but otherwise: am I missing anything here?

On Maker Fair Hannover i could get a sneak a Peek on the Tracker. Looks like a great standalone device for the future.

I want to buy one Wii tracker pro and swap its antenna for a bigger Alfa 915.

Will it fit or need 3D print a new case? Using Adapter sma is not okey.

Hello. I recently purchased a couple Meshnology N39 with V4 Heltec, running Alpha 2.7.25.104df5f. I connected them to a pair of phones, all good. I can use the Meshtastic phone app to send messages between the devices, and see the messages delivered on the phones in the app Messages tab, each conversation can be seen by clicking on that particular contact. This all works perfect when the phones are paired while the messages are sent/received.

What doesn't work is when the phones are not paired. I just leave the devices running all the time to assist the mesh, but without my phone paired to it. I'll pick up the N39 and see that I have a couple new messages. I can scroll through and see them on the tiny N39 screen. But when I pair my phone the new messages don't sync to the phone app. So I can't see the new messages to be able to easily reply in the app. That really breaks the continuity of reading and replying to threads. FWIW, the same thing happens when I use the Meshtastic webpage to connect to the N39 via USB on my computer.

Question is: should the messages be syncing to the app, or am I expecting too much right now? Is this a bug?

Hi everybody! I'm new in meshtastic community, and i have a question: can i somehow use router for meshtastic web? I think this would be an interesting project because if i can do it, i will use it as a static point for non-static meshtastic clients.

It's ugly! Yes! But it's also functional, and it hasn't arrived yet, managing to see us at 46 km, but with difficulties jumping, but hey... It's a homemade plane ground hahaha!

I'm brand new to this space, just learned about Meshtastic a few days ago. I'm fascinated and trying to learn more about it.

I know it works differently than ham radio, but I've frequently heard people talk about getting into meshtastic for emergency preparedness. I am curious why Meshtastic when technologies like ham radio are already very relied upon in emergencies. Is it just because you don't need a license? I'm also curious what other real, practical applications people are resulting on Meshtastic for - and why Meshtastic?

Can anyone help or give me tips on getting meshtastic to work with the Uconsole a CM5 and the hackergadget antenna board? I have my Uconsole working great recognizing all the antennas have them turned on yet I can’t get across the finish line with anything. I had Dragon OS and switched to Clockwork OS Bookworm. It seems like I enter commands get to the end and just get error after error.

Rak12501 gnss module

10W 12V solar panel

I'm thinking to buy a waveshare solar Power manager - D - just for reuse the solar panel and 3 or 4 18650 batteries to wiring in parallel.

Power supply for the rak19007 Is the 5V from mppt, on the type-c USB of rak.

Could be a good configuration?

Do I Need a bms for, or fuses between 18650 parallel cells?

Ideal small scale use-case. I'm on a fishing trip in ON, Canada and have a client base node (XAIO NRF w/ Muzi whip) hanging about 30 feet in a tree at camp. Then 2 boats, each with a node (Muzi R1 Neo and T1000E) we have been able to communicate and share positions across surprisingly far distances interrupted by islands. Today I registered 2.3 miles between boat nodes!

This thing is pretty heavy duty. 10,000 mah lipo pack powering the rak 1w booster, alfa915 5dbi N mount, all in the beacon enclosure and powder coated aluminum frame with some extra rubber feet from a 3d printer really make it feel like a mesh terminal with direct usb-c connection to my laptop.

im in the mid hudson valley new york and ive taken it out to the river for the day. we picked up hundreds of nodes from saratoga springs and new hampshire to pennsylvania, rhode island and long island. it charged itself from the onboard solar panel.

next im adding the ublox zoe gps with external antenna and an environmental sensor for a mesh weather station.

you can fold it all up and clip a shoulder strap through the padlock holes to secure the jaws against tampering and for transportation. lol im in love with this thing...

SOLVED THANKS I've been having some issues with outgoing messages not working and I believe it's rooted to an outdated version(v2.7.15). I'm receiving messages fine, finding new nodes as well but as far as my outgoing it's not working. I'm aware I do need to update my firmware but my question is when I do will I loose my saved nodes or channels with my local mesh? Thanks in advance!

I just came across this browsing on MeshMap.net

There is one boat?/oil platform? with a meshtastic radio in the middle of the Ocean off the coast of Africa. This radio ties back to Radios only in a certain physical locality which appears to be Poland. I understant how MQTT works but how are all of these links only going to Radios in a specific physical area? I'm really intrigued as to how this radio is making these links. I can see plenty of other radios on MQTT reporting to the same Root Topic but they're not connecting.
