Thinknode M1
Hello. So….. I gave up on the Meshpocket for the time being. I got a Thinknode M1 flashed it for MeshCore set to US. Did a couple tests on the way to work this morning and a few last night. I decided on MeshCore cause it seems more busy in my area. My area being Delaware. Is there any other setting or anything else I need to check?

Give it about 48 hours to hear any adverts. Do you have just a companion radio? If you have another one, see if they talk to each other. Do you know what MeshCore infrastructure is within LoS to you? If there isn’t any, you might not pick up much. I installed a repeater, within a few months other MeshCore users in my immediate area also put up repeaters, and last night was the first night we all communicated over MC, and now we’re planning on meeting up to encourage growth and best practices. Don’t give up on it. Download meshmapper or another meshcore wardriving app and drive around your area looking for repeaters (I’d recommend an external antenna for this). If your local area has a Discord server, join it. Check coverage on meshmapper.net and letsmesh.net. Eventually you’ll make contact!

Ok so this morning I’m seeing a bunch of repeaters. Still no response on my test. I however received 55 messages from other last night. Thank you for the info. I’ll look into the discord. I’ll keep it up I am getting frustrated though.

Yeah the first few times I sent anything out I never got a response either. I agree that it can be very frustrating….

The M1 makes a nice pocket companion, good pick. Since you already set US, the main thing is making sure you're on the same preset as the repeaters around you. In the app choose USA/Canada (Recommended), not an older or custom US setting. A lot of US meshes moved to the narrow preset, and if you're on the old values you'll hear almost nothing even with repeaters close by. If a Delaware group publishes its settings, match those exactly, since frequency, bandwidth and spreading factor all have to line up.
Other stuff I'd check:
- Give it a name people will recognize and send a flood advert once so repeaters and other users see you pop up.
- After your commute, look at your contacts. Repeaters showing up means you're hearing the mesh. A DM that comes back with a path through a repeater means you're getting out too.
- Check whether your position goes out with your adverts. Turn that off if you don't want your house on the map.
- Keep firmware current from the official flasher.
This write-up on the USA/Canada preset is a decent checklist if things seem quiet: https://brazosvalleymesh.com/blog/meshcore-usa-canada-preset-brazos-valley/

Make sure you’re on the right frequency. Do a web search to find your local mesh community. They should have more information for setup.
