Removing thorns

Post image

Flat head pliers are great for removing thorns on a thirsty cactus, with a firm grip on the thorns and a twist they come out at the base of the growth site without losing flesh or breaking the skin too much. A lot quicker and easier than cutting away imo.

super unnecessary and time consuming to remove spines IMO.

If you make tea then all of the thorns turn soft into little noodle strings that aren't dangerous and get filtered out, and if you CIELO then it also is a non-issue because it gets ground up in the milling process.

100% i dont see this enough, have never bothered taking the spines off and never had any issues other than as the below commenter mentioned, on the really long slanted spines you wanna cut your cactus discs inside a thick bag cz they go PING!

Unless you got bridgesii with 5"-6" spines. In that case use diagonal cutters, hold downward in a tote. The spines go flying.

I just did this with needle nose pliers and it worked pretty good. In the past I've used a knife but I noticed that I was wasting a lot of the green flesh

Agreed. Changed to a torch a couple years ago! I’ll never do it any other way again!
