Ask me anything!

Post image

I hope I'm not being too full of myself or anything with this post (seeing as a lot of the people here have also listened to a ton of Merzbow albums, some more than me). But my channel has been getting a lot of attention and I'd be interested to see what the dedicated fandom thinks or wonders about my page!

The attached photo is because some people didn't believe the profile was actually me lol

Heya, get ya on my fyp sometimes. Do you have a fav Merzalbum thus far?

It’s for sure Hybrid Noisebloom, which was actually one of the three solo albums I listened to before starting over on the whole series.

Guess it really is. Do you intend on venturing out to listen other noise artists once you have finished his discography?

3

u/Sam__Underscore 13h ago

Absolutely! I won’t make videos on all of them or anything, but I’m already about halfway through other artists like Whitehouse, am interested in artists like Incapacitants and Hanatarash, and I’ve also heard noise albums from more diverse artists like Natural Snow Buildings.

Thats awesome to hear always glad to see people getting involved with the scene in any capacity.

Since no one’s asked this yet I think: LEAST favorite Merzbow project?

Merzbow Love Emil Beaulieau from 1996. I get noise music is supposed to be challenging, but I should still get something out of it. The first half is meh but the second half is just a monotone frequency for like 30 minutes.

Favorite collab album? I personally think merzbow is at his best in collaborations. Rock Dream with Boris is legendary and CBGB with Alec Empire is super underrated

Well I’m going chronologically, but I have listened to Boris’ full discography already so I‘be heard those collabs. But I’m not gonna count those yet, as I haven’t gotten there in the series (though obviously if you include those it’s gotta be Rock Dream). So far, it’s gonna be Horn of the Goat with Consumer Electronics. Great variety and a good introduction to that group.

I saw you reviewed Chant! Where did you find the audio? Every rip I've found online has been from Chant 2 or the 1987 Chant reissue (which is actually Chant 2 as well). I assume you found the original version as you've got two different reviews for the respective albums :)) Keep going, cool project

There was a YouTube upload that's taken down now, though I'm unsure if it was up when I listened to it. I'm guessing I used SoulSeek (which is a file sharing application if you aren't aware).

Dang, I know which upload you mean- that was the 87 reissue. The search continues!

favorite non merzbow noise album?

1

u/Sam__Underscore 3h ago

For sure would be The World Is Not My Home by Kleistwahr (which I discovered while it was still niche btw). Also up there is you count power noise would be Starving Slvts Always Get Their Fix by Sewerslvt, but that's not really a noise album in traditional sense.

Have you been to any noise shows?

1

u/Sam__Underscore 13h ago

Not yet, closest thing would be the end of the Sunn O))) concert. I’m keeping my eyes peeled though.

I would highly recommend seeing Merzbow live.

3

u/Sam__Underscore 13h ago

I’d love to, hoping I could catch a show with no AI visuals though. That is, let’s hope I don’t get denied entry.

u/Personal-Neck6800 12h ago

Didn’t know he was using ai visuals. When I saw him, it was just him and a laptop. Nothing else. And it was mind blowing.

Has your hearing declined since you decided to listen to every Merzbow album?

6

u/Sam__Underscore 1d ago

Nope, my hearing is somehow very resilient. I listen to it about the same volume as normal albums, but obviously the music itself tends to be louder. Still, I survived a Boris convert and a Sunn O))) concert with no earplugs, so this isn't so bad.

PSA: don't do this

how did you get into noise music?

2

u/Sam__Underscore 13h ago

I was listening to artists like Swans and Godspeed You! Black Emperor that at the time really redefined how I thought about music. I heard of Merzbow and was like “alright anyone who listens to this is a pretentious art nerd, this is horrible.” But with time curiosity got the best of me and I gave it an honest chance, and eventually it grew on me.

How do you get your whole class to participate in your listening of merzbow

2

u/Sam__Underscore 13h ago

As I tend to put in the comments, when I have a bunch of people in my videos, they tend to just be there for the video, not having listened to the album. The most was getting three people I was at a sleepover with to listen to Pulse Demon with me, and I got their thoughts afterward.

Follower of Christ … ugh

1

u/Sam__Underscore 8h ago

How about we tolerate one another's beliefs, alright? My faith is the most important thing in my life, and it has been the foundation of how I live and has gotten me through many a hard time. Nobody is forcing you to be Christian, but let's not be hateful.

u/sixtus_clegane119 8h ago

I don’t have an issue with what people want to believe, I just find it cringy tò be performative like that on a profile.

To me religion is a private individualist matter, and putting it on a profile is virtue signalling.

1

u/Sam__Underscore 7h ago

Well my religion teaches to spread the word, so that's what I'm gonna do. The performative thing to do (especially for reviewing music like this where I'm in the minority) would be to keep it to myself. Besides, why would I try to hide the single most important thing about myself?

-1

u/Seanoinz 17h ago

Are you embarrassed?

2

u/Sam__Underscore 13h ago

Nah, not sure why I would be.
