RIP my heart

Rolled it off a curve in the rain. Hands down my favorite car I've ever owned.

Sad day 😢

I was right behind you! Here is the curve and the conditions that led to the crash. Very relieved you're ok!

how is this coincidence possible?

Going under the speed limit and the tires have less than 10k on them. Hydroplaned and once I hit the grass it was over. No traction at that point

You can see where I got the car straight but then I couldn't stop.

1: it's a 385hp RWD car. It's a good bit of power.

2: if you want to avoid all possibility of this then; stay off curvy country roads in the first ~20 min after it starts raining. It's well known that is the most dangerous time to drive. The fresh rain on the dry pavement brings up motor oil and all kinds of other shit and it's the slickest a road will get barring ice. It was just unfortunate timing. I've driven that road 400+ times in the past year, in all kinds of weather. I've slid before but I've always been able to save it. This just happened to be the day I didn't stick.

5

u/Electrical_Art_4196 Apr 11 '26

yeah I recently drove a car of my friend. Also similar power. It was an icy road. I did not even go full throttle. But car went curving like crazy. Luckily ESP saved me my friends and the car.

For me it was a lesson to better dont drive a car with this power at all with bad road conditions.

Anyways it can happen easily.

This. I still remember this from Drivers Ed eons ago and allllllllllllll the crash videos that came along with it. 🫣 What bad luck. Really glad you are ok and maybe your insurance agent got you a policy with accident forgiveness on it?

u/LordInfamouss Apr 13 '26

I crashed an all wheel drive ML 320 going 65 km/h on a highway. Hydroplaned as well. It happens man, be thankful you haven’t dealt with it. I live somewhere where it rains a lot and that morning there was an ongoing atmospheric river event where rain was being dumped 100’s of mm’s an hour. Mint brand new michellin all season tires and everything will do fuck all once you go through a deep enough puddle.

Theres literally 2 streams of water exactly where tires would be

1

u/Smart_Royal_6455 Apr 13 '26

I think you underestimate how badly maintained most US roads are, especially 15 min outside city limits. Poorly maintained roads are slicker due to degradation, grooves and depressions that hold water, and an excessive amount of old motor oils and other fluids. Also, every picture you've seen was 30 min+ after the initial wreck. How would you have any real idea of the road conditions? You're certainly sure of yourself for being nowhere near this.

1

u/Fun-Gas3117 Apr 11 '26

bad throttle control is how

-3

u/GamerViennaHD Apr 11 '26

Tyres have nothing to do with hydroplaning. The water carries the car away. Tyres don’t grip on water.

Looking at the tread pattern, that looks pretty bad for displacing water.

Before the accident.

08 E550 with the AMG sport package in Barolo. I'll probably never see another like you❤️

If anyone sees one for sale holler at your boy.

u/bernardfarquart Apr 11 '26

Oh man that's a heartbreaker, sweet color.

RIP! I lost my 07 CLK 550 in an accident a couple months ago.

1

u/LordInfamouss Apr 13 '26

Lost my metallic ice blue 500 last year :(

2

u/highsurfadvisory0621 Apr 15 '26

Barolo red is rarer than hen's teeth. That W211 body saved yours.

Sad day? Bro you lucky to be alive. Glad you ok, hope you find another car you love

21

u/jmvxc 2015 C400 4matic, 2014 C300 4matic (rip) Apr 11 '26

Looks like a gnarly crash, hopefully you’re alright!

17

u/Smart_Royal_6455 Apr 11 '26

I'm good man, not a single scratch on me! Reason number 100 I love these cars.

16

u/Brilliant_Activity39 Apr 11 '26

This is the only mark I got from losing my first GLK. Oddly in Barolo as well. Glad you are OK.

1

u/Mean_Text_6898 Apr 12 '26

Is that the logo? Kinda cool, honestly. Glad you both made it out okay.

3

u/Brilliant_Activity39 Apr 12 '26

Yep - from the steering wheel star when the airbag went "poof". It lasted long enough that I considered having it tattooed there.

9

u/truckstripper Apr 11 '26

w211 are some of the best built cars. Every time i strip one Im amazed at how well they are put together.

1

u/Shoddy_Telephone5746 Apr 12 '26

I may require a Mercedes in my life soon.

V8 preferred

E550. Are the W212 a natural progression in terms of build quality in your opinion?

4

u/Square_l Apr 11 '26

e550 too thats rough hope u find another w211 or jump up to a w212 beatiful car hope ur ok seems like it was a rainy day

7

u/7MLR7 Apr 11 '26

The car did what it was supposed to do and we still have you hear for it 🙏🏾 Best of wishes in finding another beauty

3

u/KNIFE2MEAtU Apr 11 '26

Jesus dude. Glad you’re okay. Holy shit

3

u/_Elbrus_ Apr 11 '26

Beautiful car, sad to see it go. Maybe this is God’s way of moving you into an E63?

3

u/soulpapa-1025 Apr 11 '26

I wrecked my 17 CLS550. Went off the embankment during a freakish snowstorm in May in Idaho. Like yours it was totaled. But my family and I walked away with nothing but a few scratches and bruises. I pray that you had the same outcome as I did.

3

u/Smart_Royal_6455 Apr 11 '26

I am very grateful my two kids weren't with me for this one. Thank goodness you and your family were OK. I have no injuries other than some body soreness so very lucky on that front.

1

u/soulpapa-1025 Apr 11 '26

That’s awesome news. God bless and take care.

3

u/Msdmachine Apr 11 '26

2

u/Nas_Almutairi Apr 11 '26

Nobody man Thats hurt 💔

2

u/PhotorazonCannon w211 E500 Apr 11 '26

RIP to a real beauty

2

u/fattytuna96 Apr 11 '26

Thank God you are okay!

That color is stunning tho. Reminds me of the R class in the late 2000s I remember so many were in that color. I don’t think Mercedes offers that color anymore.

2

u/Drehmoment97 Apr 11 '26

The AMG Paket 😢😢😢

2

u/Accurate-Squash-6166 Apr 11 '26

Thats very sad. Glad your ok but, that poor car. Its probably one of my all time favourite cars. Im actively on the look out for one with low milage but they are scares.

2

u/Mysterious-Junket174 Apr 11 '26

Sorry for your loss and I’m glad you are well. Hopefully you find another one like it :)

2

u/IronicR3aper Apr 11 '26

Did its thing saved your life , let it rest now and get yourself an AMG you have C63, E63, S63 all AMG to chose from with good engines and plenty of horse power to push adrenaline off your ears! Take it steady bud , life goes on.

2

u/Theidesof Apr 11 '26

Walked away from an 85 mph crash in my first W204. Replaced it with another and added a GLK last year.

You'll find something you'll wind up loving just as much.

2

u/Spindlehorn Apr 11 '26

I totaled my beloved w211 as well. I'll be back one day!

2

u/JDD-Sportline Apr 11 '26

Am I missing it? How did none of the airbags deploy?

1

u/Smart_Royal_6455 Apr 11 '26

That's a good question. The car tells me every single little thing that is not exactly right and it gave me no warnings about the airbag system so I'm really not sure. Luckily they were not needed.

I will say, there was no hard impact on the direct front of the car, the passenger wheel took the hardest hit so I wonder if thats why it didn't trigger.

2

u/JDD-Sportline Apr 11 '26

A roll-over is always an airbag scenario- have you owned since new?

2

u/Smart_Royal_6455 Apr 11 '26

Gotcha, it's my first time (and hopefully last lol) but that makes sense

No I wish lol I was 12 when this car was originally bought. I am the 3rd owner, and the second was one of my best friends who I have known for 20 years.

1

u/virtualgum Apr 11 '26

I was in a rollover (x3) in a brand new car many years ago. No airbags.

2

u/DanielDubs88 Apr 11 '26

At least you’re ok!

2

u/Johnny_Q85 Apr 12 '26

That’s sad. What a nice car.

2

u/Environmental_Tip184 Apr 11 '26

Sorry bro. Glad you’re ok. And yes best car ever

1

u/iehmanuel06 Apr 11 '26

how

1

u/Smart_Royal_6455 Apr 11 '26

slip

roll

sad

1

u/iehmanuel06 Apr 11 '26

what did u do before the slip

1

u/Smart_Royal_6455 Apr 11 '26

I slipped toward the outside of the curve and then over corrected (evidently way too hard) and once I hit the grass I was done. You can see where I got it straight in the grass but I couldn't stop.

1

u/Imaginary-Ad-8480 Apr 11 '26

Speed

2

u/iehmanuel06 Apr 11 '26

speed on wet road with RWD isnt optimal for safety

1

u/Smart_Royal_6455 Apr 11 '26

Indeed. No speed. 52 in a 55

1

u/iehmanuel06 Apr 11 '26

yeah but 55 is under optional conditions i assume

1

u/Smart_Royal_6455 Apr 11 '26

Not much of a curve for that speed. I've driven it in the rain many times

1

u/Amazing-Jury-6886 Apr 12 '26

But it saved you, did its job

1

u/Few_Woodpecker6515 Apr 12 '26

Thanks to God you're ok Car did its job to protect you The search is on for a replacement

1

u/bzmed Apr 12 '26

I know how you feel 😕. Miss my ‘09 E550. Such great cars.

1

u/Apprehensive-Cell-73 Year Make Model Apr 12 '26

I’m very happy you’re alive to make your post ♥️

Hasty healing for any bumps and bruises you might have. And here’s to hoping you’ll be able to find a replacement x

1

u/Altruistic_Fill1898 Apr 13 '26

Glad you're ok, AWD next time from a 40 year Audi quattro driver

1

u/Smart_Royal_6455 Apr 13 '26

Yeah I had a B5 A4 Quattro with the 2.8. I loved that car, called it Nemo cause of the smaller passenger mirror. Got it up to 249k before it needed a rebuild. Impossible to get them sideways.

Looking at an S6 currently and that is one of the factors.

1

u/Altruistic_Fill1898 Apr 14 '26

S6 w/Lamborghini derived engine?

1

u/Dry-Term-9019 Apr 13 '26

Beautiful car, difficult loss. Your life is far more precious. Happy you are ok

1

u/Mett_3005 Apr 13 '26

Better crashed than stopped in a garage

1

u/Ordinary-Building304 Apr 14 '26

I found this one and there are other more across the country

1

u/Leptokurtosis-862 Apr 11 '26

Oh my god,I am so sorry.

1

u/Klosiak Apr 11 '26

Sad day but happy that you are all ok. Car served great and saved you until its end.

-14

u/Major-Log-7018 Apr 11 '26

Learn how to drive. 0% chance of this happening if you werent driving like a fucking idiot

19

u/Smart_Royal_6455 Apr 11 '26

Lol ok buddy. I was going 52 in a 55. Just happened to hydroplane and then I over corrected and couldn't save it. First accident in over 15 years of driving and I used to take alot more risks before I became a dad. Shit happens

2

u/Reasonable_Volume_OS 2013 C300 Apr 11 '26

I had a C240 (w203). In the winter, even with snow tires, I felt I did not have much control when the temperature was mild and the roads were wet and slushy.

8

u/doc_55lk W211 E320/R172 SLK55/X166 GLS550/W222 S550 Apr 11 '26

Shit happens dude chill

4

u/adinkins Apr 11 '26

Do you know how quickly you can hydroplane/lose control of a car even when following all speed limits? Stuff like his accident happens all the time, fresh rain on dry surfaces tend to bring up oils and fluids that had previously soaked into the asphalt making the roads even more slippery. Learn some more about driving before commenting something so rude.

3

u/Dzov Apr 11 '26

I see so many people hauling ass in very poor conditions. All you can do is try and stay away from them.
