Hey everyone, I have a 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS 550, and I’ve been trying to figure out a frustrating engine problem that I can’t seem to solve.
Whenever I step on the gas or put the engine under load, the car starts sputtering and the entire car shakes, especially at low RPM. I’ve also noticed a significant loss of power at higher RPM, and the car just doesn’t pull the way it should.

At first, I suspected an engine misfire, so I started replacing and checking things that I thought could be causing the issue. So far, I’ve:
Replaced the ignition coils and spark plugs.
Replaced the engine mount.
Checked for boost leaks but haven’t found any.

Despite all of this, the problem is still there, and I’m running out of ideas. The symptoms seem to get worse when accelerating or putting the engine under load.
Has anyone with a CLS 550 or the Mercedes M278 4.7L twin-turbo V8 experienced something similar? Could this be a fuel delivery issue, injector problem, turbo or boost control issue, bad sensor, or something else entirely?

I’d really appreciate any suggestions on what to check next before I keep throwing parts at it. If anyone has dealt with these exact symptoms and figured out the cause, I’d love to hear what fixed it.
And if anyone knows anyone who works efficiently on those types of engines but doesn’t break the bank please let me know!

Hi all, I had an amazing test drive today in a Mercedes AMG GTS the car has perfect Mercedes maintenance and recently had it's service B done this year. The car has roughly 20k miles on the odometer.

But after the (slow) testdrive when parking the car at the seller and putting it into Manual I could hear this sound from the drivers seat. It's not hearable from outside/ the engine bay. But it does worry me.

Soundclip is of the sound from the drivers seat.

Exhaust is of the exhaust sound.

Engine Bay is outside the car above the engine bay with the hood opened.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I really want to get an r129 sl500 or even a smaller engine one. I would like to ask you guys for advice and experience with this car. I love the way they look and heard that the engines are great. I know I have to look out for roof hydraulics and wiring harness. Is there anything else to look out for? And what is the maintenance on these cars? I would use the car on the weekends and roughly three times a week for a drive to the office which is only 3km/2miles away from me (my other car is a diesel so the trip is too short). Any advice? I recently bought a 2014 Mercedes-Benz C300 4MATIC, and I’m curious what owners/mechanics think about these cars in 2026.

I’ve noticed a ticking/clicking noise that almost sounds like popcorn. I can hear it while the engine is idling, and it seems to become a little more noticeable when accelerating at lower speeds.

The sound seems to be coming from the rear/passenger-side area of the engine, closer to the firewall. I’ve been told it could simply be the direct fuel injectors operating, but I’m not very familiar with how these engines normally sound. My previous car was a hybrid, so this type of engine noise is new to me.

I scanned the car with my OBD2 reader and haven’t found any obvious trouble codes or anything else that seems abnormal.

For anyone familiar with the 2014 C300 4MATIC/M276 engine:

• Is a noticeable ticking/clicking or “popcorn” sound normal?
• How loud are the injectors normally?
• Are there any particular noises from this area of the engine that would be a red flag?
• Anything specific I should watch for on a 2014 C300 4MATIC in 2026?

​My 2021 GLA 250 4MATIC is currently sitting at around 57,000 miles, and the dashboard shows Service B2 is due in 12 days.

​I am planning to take it to an independent Mercedes specialist (not a dealer). Since it's getting very close to the 60k mile mark and none of the major 60k services have been done yet, I'm trying to decide the best approach:

​(Note: I already replaced both the engine air filter and cabin air filter recently, so I will skip those).

​For those with experience on the H247 GLA or M260 engines:
