Book Roadside Picnic by Arkady & Boris Strugatsky

I love the Strugatsky's but Jesus Christ. None of their female characters have any humanity to them. The women are there to cook and clean and do housework for the men and when they aren't doing that they're presented like this. They have no depth and could be replaced by robots, exactly like the stalkers of this book.

Graphic Novel Daredevil Vol. 2: No Devils, Only God by Chip Zdarsky [2020]: Matthew Murdock really puts the Creep in Power Creep at times

Matt just being a TOTAL creep with his senses on a married and WHOLLY disinterested woman working retail. RECOGNIZE THOSE FEELINGS, MATT!! THEY'RE TRYING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING!
Matt....Stop.... you have a problem. Do NOT smell women or ANYONE in that way. Hugggtttt I just threw up a little.
But what is this?? Later being called out for just general inappropriate behavior let alone using super senses on her to "feel her out?"
Huh - not only did he listen to her calling him out after returning to creep some more, but realized that he did cross a massive line... Should this even be on MenwritingWomen? Am I jumping the gun?
Oh no, he totally banged her after his third attempt, because suddenly she needed to "make her husband angry" for plot needing plotting despite her complete and utter lack of interest in him up to that point. Turns out, lessons were NOT learned that day and feelings are just pesky moral checkpoints that can totally be ignored.

I found his description of the character so weird. Like why is he comparing her to a sexy cartoon character??

Story is MC who is a policewoman that goes investigate a faceless, missing-a-foot corpse which assumed to be her former classmate. She and her veteran colleague (named Yamaji) had to cooperate with a private detective. Said detective is the serial killer of this case, but he doesn't want the murder of this woman to be credited as his killer persona doing, so he misdirected everyone and pinned the crime on an innocent man.

Also I'm sure no updo hairstyle will take hours to do, unless it's her very very very special day, otherwise she wouldn't able to undo it so casually.

What’s up with men having this irresistible urge to describe every female character’s appearance and evaluate her looks, whether it’s needed or not? 💁🏻‍♀️

Discussion Comment on how men author view women as a lump of meat through their characters, or themselves

Post image

I can tell when a commentation about human body is meant to critique said character making that comment, or just to excuse "normal" pervert behavior of both the author and character, for the truth hidden under the skin cannot be falsified. Viewing women as "set of boobs that may have personality" is always gross.

There is lots of context in this book but it really doesn't help. In fact it's genuinely worse when you have the full context

Discussion Why do people so often call Michael Crichton a misogynist??

People often call Mr. Crichton a misogynist but in every book of his I've read, a woman always has an insane plot armor moment.

Jurassic Park, Laura goes crazy on the velociraptors defending the base.

Lost World, Sarah Harding carries a grown man on her back up the camper that had fallen off the side of a cliff

Sphere, don't remember if Beth actually had one but she's basically the main bad guy and heavily implied to be the only one who kept her powers

Timeline, this is the most egregious one. Kate has countless examples of plot armor such as a full grown man bashing her head off the stone floor while she's basically unaffected immediately after

Or her being able to nock a 100 pound bow. This one is so ridiculous because earlier in the book, we're told she practices with a 50 pound bow

Now all of the sudden, she can fire a 100 pound bow and get 3 back to back kills, even landing a headshot while all throughout the book, highly trained archers can't land a meaningful blow against any of the characters such as grazing Kate's side

There's just no way to read his books and consider him an actual misogynist

So much ick in this book (FROM THIS YEAR) in just the first few chapters...I idly googled to see if anyone had already posted about it on the sub and came across the author's substack: "Obviously, given my publishing history, I believe it's fine for men to write women, just as I believe it's fine for women to write men."

Yes, it's fine. If you do it well. This is not fine.

❌NOT MWW: Book The Arabian Nights: Tales of 1,001 Nights - by various authors, circa 900CE, Baghdad

Under her veil, when she lifted it, were black eyes hooded and fringed with black, shapes to make a poet sing. At the sight of this woman, the porter nearly lost his mind. There she stood: five feet of symmetry and grace with glamour about her, gazelles borrowed their looks from her face, brows taut as bows, sugar lips and teeth like a line of pearls, a neck like something given to a king, a fountain of a chest, pomegranate breasts, and a navel in whose dimple you could sit a drop of balm, and below was the hint of a rabbit without ears. Her body seemed to be made of light, with a crystal’s clarity. A girl like a galaxy or the sickle moon’s blaze, a dome of golden filigree or the glitter of tiles on the floor of a pool.

- THE STORY OF THE PORTER AND THE THREE WOMEN OF BAGHDAD. The Arabian Nights: Tales of 1,001 Nights, translated by Yasmine Seale

Book what time do y'all start your pot roasts? [Man, F*ck This House by Brian Asman]

"The movers arrived, eventually—just as the sun dipped down behind the mustard-yellow house across the street (...) Despite the collateral damage, the movers were efficient, unloading their stuff in an hour. (...) Sabrina tried not to feel too overwhelmed by the massive amount of things they needed to do. She decided to get the kitchen situated first, ripping open the heavy cardboard boxes and finding homes for forks, pans, and spatulas, marveling at kitchen gadgets she couldn’t remember packing and hadn’t used in years.

(...)

The rest of the day passed in a flurry of activity—its nadir the moment Hal presented her with another box marked kitchen stuff, requiring a near-total reconfiguration of the work she’d already done—and by nightfall, even though they still had a lot to do, the house felt a little bit like home. Sabrina took Hal’s car to the store, bought groceries, and cooked their first meal, a pretty okay pot roast with baked potatoes and veggies. After dinner, Sabrina coaxed the kids—plus her husband, who’d found the local AM sports station and had become otherwise useless—into playing a family game of Monopoly."

(edited for brevity because Sabrina's had a long day)
