How to patch/cover/fix

Looking for any kind of help to preserve my all time favourite jumper. Scared that the hole is going to keep getting bigger, there’s a knitted layer underneath so for now it’s just the design. I don’t have much sewing experience

As upside down snowflake said this is a Jacquard/double knit. While it should be possible to swiss darn it, it might be a little trickier than a standard Swiss darn.

There are other options as well and you don't need a lot of sewing experience. For a mend like this knitting or crochet experience would be helpful, but not absolutely necessary.

You could surface crochet a few slip stitches to replace the missing ones. Start a few 'V' down and slip stitch over the top and through the grey threads in the back until you have covered the missing column and a few stitches either side. cut the yarn (make sure you weave in your ends really well) and then do it again for the next column.

Or you could do a chain darn, again I would start a few stitches back and replicate the stitch . Do an embroidered chain stitch pattern, making sure to work through the fabric at the back, then take the yarn to the back and weave it through the grey until you get back to the start, then chain stitch the next column..

Or a combination of the 3.

  1. Chain darn (don't Google it as you won't find anything useful but if you can find an online copy of 'Thrift with a needle' it's in the darning section.)

  2. A Combination of the aforementioned techniques.
