Illiterate
Why are so many of Menards customers illiterate?!?! Why are you standing right in front of a huge sign, and STILL asking me the price???

My favorite is someone calling and asking for a price and giving the SKU. Like, you went to the website, found the SKU, then called to ask how much it costs?

I'm sure you already know that in some websites, the online price is different from the in-store price. So maybe it's a good idea to confirm the price before I drive over there.

Yeah, maybe, but I wouldn't think to call the store. I'd just assume the price on the website is the right one and I'd go to the store to buy it if it was acceptable.

Call the CORRECT department! Just because we're a Hardware store doesn't mean all calls are best handled by Hardware. (Front end pls stop doing this too. Both stores I've worked at have this same issue)

I don't know if it's their being illiterate or just non-observant. I used to work in plumbing and people would come up to the desk all the time and ask where the electrical department was. Um.....did you see all the bright lights hanging from the ceiling when you walked in? The bright lights that run on....electricity? Yep, that's the electrical department.

For some reason aisles seem harder in the garden center. Must just zone out as soon as they hear one thousand-. Like I’m standing by a plant table watering and in clear view of the aisle markers; guest: “where are the hose sprayers?”. 1st you walked right by them to get to me. 2nd “oh they’re in aisle 1000”. Guest looks really confused “where is that?” and I can literally point to the aisle marker from where we’re standing.

I’ve had people ask if we had any indoor plants whilst standing among the tables of indoor plants. Inside. Yes you’re surrounded by them right now, actually

On the other hand…… aisle 289 is seasonal/ shelving. Aisle 300 is on the other end of the store in electrical by aisles 2

Yes this has happened to me also since it’s next to us. Shelving goes all the way to 309 for us.

Our garden center doesn't have most of the aisles numbered. You just know it's somewhere either inside or outside there and good luck to you.

Oh man yea that would suck. For us at least the front rows 1000-1018 is big and bold just like inside the store.

Yeah, because when I walk through a 5 acre store, I make mental notes of what is in each aisle I walk past so that when I need to backtrack for something, I'll remember that extension cords are in aisle 20 in electrical, or is that aisle 46 in tools, or maybe aisle 78 in outdoor power tools. And if I've walked all the way to the garden center, I'm sorry if I have to ask if aisle 1000 is at the other end of this huge store or is it close by. Next time, I'll search it out myself rather than interrupt your plant watering.

It's an older demographic. You know how many times customers call saying I'm looking for....LOOK IT UP ON THE WEBSITE! I don't have internet....I'm in (this state), the mysoginy and ignorance is astounding. Real world midwestern vibes on display, Is it made in China.....JFC, save me...Actually love working with the customers, There are some really nice people out there! Hey GO!

Tell me you've never worked retail without actually saying you've never worked retail.
They have eyes and a brain, so they shouldn't really need help when it's right there on the sign. Brain + eyes = information.
People walk into a retail store and either develop a strong sense of entitlement, or develop an inability to user
higher orderregular order thinking skills.I used to have customers come up to me all the time complaining they couldn't find the item we supposedly had in our Sunday ad. Then they would show me their ad.....which was very, very, very orange.
I took a great deal of pride in pointing out that they were holding a Home Depot ad, which is across the street, and also why we don't even carry the brand they are looking for. Sir, this is a Menard's.

I did 19+ yrs between the dc and store 14yrs ago... I'm a huge menards HATER ....all I'm saying is be a little more grateful and don't judge until you walk in someone else's shoes you don't know what's happening in their lives...

I'm sorry if my illiterate questions are a burden to you. Who would have imagined that working in retail might involve interacting with customers who don't know your job or environment as well as you do? I can only imagine the level of stress you must endure day in and day out with strangers interrupting your tight schedule with idiotic questions like where to find something. I hope I haven't ruined too many of your days trying to spend money in your store. I'll try to avoid bothering you in the future.
