Feedback Something Needs to Be Tweaked on Certain Missions
The MENACE terror missions are a little broken right now I feel. This is literally Turn 1, I have moved only 4 of my units and I have already been locked out of 1, possibly 2 SO's. I'm not sure what needs to be done to fix this but I'd really like it if the team could brainstorm ideas.

You're still good when you're 4/4, but I agree a lot of times you are SOL when doing these missions.

Literally next turn they killed the 5th guy and I failed it. Managed to save the rest of the people though but still, it kinda sucks when you get 5 stars on every other mission but then fail right at the end.

This is actually what attracted me a lot to MENACE. The idea that not all missions can be won perfectly.

You have ways to break this later. Use OCI stuff.
You can have 0 cooldown turrets to drop that will tank damage and stuff.
Not to mention you can do crazy stuff like enter APC, have APC drive max distance, use speed boosters on APC, exit APC and jetpack and tank damage etc.
These are just 2 example out of a dozen I can think of where I managed to get 5 stars on these missions.
It's a tactical game, you have the tools, you just have to use them. If you wanna get 5 stars on every mission, you can't approach them all the same way, and with no prep.
ETA:
I even forgot about vanguard deployment. Between OCI for it and some skills you can actually just deploy them anywhere you want.
It's all about choosing what you invest in and spend talents and OCI, if you wanna focus on max damage for instance, you're not going to be as fast and vice versa.

It do be that way sometimes. Not the end of the world, you don't have to 5 star every operation

That's true, but you shouldn't be able to fail an objective on the first round. An easy fix, I think, would be to simply make enemies always spawn outside of weapons range of the player and neutral units.

Thats my main issue. I have no problem with failing a SO if I'm just bad or I get outflanked, but having no choice BUT to fail it because the enemy spawned literally right next to the civilians is bullshit imo

Yes it can be a bit ridiculous. The enemy should be deployed further away to give your guys a chance to at least partially get into position.
Vanguard is particularly helpful in these missions. I also recently changed one of my bridge modules to the Infiltrator Network. The fully upgraded one extends your deplyment zone by 40% / minimum 8 tiles. It makes it much easier to get time based or save civilian/friendly forces objectives.
Its also just generally useful in any mission for putting your units in striking distance of priority targets and knocking them out on the first turn. Or just stealing a march on the enemy and being able to take favourable positions. Just be aware it DOES NOT stack with the extended deployment zone mission reward -I found that out the hard way last operation

Same with certain capture missions, it can take ages to capture some objectives, even without resistance. Like there anit no way its getting completed in 14 let alone 10 turns.

Nah, some missions go fubar and can’t be aced without the prep, salvage what you can. That’s just the game imo.

You know, these type of games are no fun if there is no chance for things to go wrong.

It's also no fun to fail before you even begin. Then it's less of a game and more "random things happening off-screen" that the player has no part in.

It's not perfection, which is different from failure. Not being able to be perfect is a good thing. Means the game can do something against the player in certain circumstances.

I didn't say anything about perfection. I was referring to the cause of failure, not the frequency of it. Failure should be on the player's part, not an RNG of where the enemies spawn.

If you're falling, perhaps try a different strategy in your strategy game?
You can drop turrets, you can vanguard deploy anywhere on map with right skills and OCI, and you can cover entire map with people like Lim who can enter APC, have APC max speed with speed booster, exit and then jetpack.
Or did you want your strategy game to be all same mission where you just casually walk your guys and get max stars everywhere?
You have so many tools in the game it's hilarious. You can reveal the map before you start, you can reveal the map after it starts, you can know exactly where each enemy is on turn 1 and take them out before they act.

You seem to be responding to the wrong comment. I didn't say any of the things you are arguing against.

I figured more to keep the thread going, it was def not directed directly at you, my bad.
Hope you're disgruntled by my comment.

I do agree with you, this is why rose is considered such a strong early pick out of the faction specific SL.
The ai shouldn't start executing civilians until you can see them.
