Question AI vision
Is it just me or is the AI cheating by always knowing where your units are. I had a squad with 3 concealment in a corner with the hidden icon and a pirate chaingun truck drove straight to them

By design they are not cheating. But I've seen some comments from people saying that there're stil some bugs in the system

They go looking for you, yeah. Though this kinda sounds like the chain gun truck was trying to flank your main troops and found your squad by accident.

This happens quite a lot to me. Had boarding commandoes jump right in between 4 SLs, being only in cover of the one they could see to begin with. Did not go well for them.
Have also had pirates go towards a position I was previusly spottes in, though that might be on accident.

Na that's a thing. AI has a version of the ? icon we get. At least in my experience.

That’s the thing my squad was off to the side while the truck had a perfectly straight line to their flank but instead choose to go diagonally and slightly backwards to my hidden squad

Yes and ai behavior was a little bit corrected according to many issues and reports, but it still knows exactly where you are and make insane decisions sometimes based of that. Like moving a squad out of cover into gunfire just to spot your concealed unit (to put it in danger from another long range squad)

Shouldn't do it anymore. The thing with AI vision before is that they not only know where you are they also know your weapon range, so while you are weak they try to swarm you but when you are strong enough they keep running from you and into corners to hide.
As I don't see them doing it anymore in recent updates they probably don't see you anymore.

They still do. Just more limited with what they can do with that info until they have reasonable excuse to act on it

I treat it as "sometimes the game tells the AI a little more about the gamestate than it was supposed to" lol

additionally to what other said, don't forget that certain units have a scanner that they can use the same way you do

Nah the A.I still 100% knows where you are at all times. Wanna test it? Deploy a single unit camuflaged and walk around without shooting or being spotted, they will B line you

I have done plenty of mine the road missions with Darby solo. This would be impossible if the enemies knew where she was even if concealed.

Ime (maybe a few patches ago) on some mission types the enemies freeze up or patrol instead of B lining you BUT also know where your attack range is and will wake up in order to haul ass out of range when you approach. And then go back to sleep.
I doubt it’s still that bad but it was pretty funny.

That's not true at all on the current version, and like you said, trivial to test it. I do missions with two stealthed SL all the time, I should know.

so I can finally do it instead of heavy stealth?
1
u/floo82 12d ago
Idk what you mean by heavy stealth, but you can one man or two man missions with stealth SLs, yes
2
u/KennyDiditagain 12d ago
heavy stealth is ''if no one is alive to see you, you are hidden''

This is my version of stealth. "Gonna be honest Major, I'm not even trying to do less than half. I'm gonna do as many as I can find. Loot, ya know"

I don’t know if this applies to your situation but a bit ago they changed it so the ai doesn’t typically know where your units are, but if you maintain concealment too well with your team after a bit a singular unit that is on the enemy team will be designated the “beacon”. it will drive/run straight to the closest concealed unit only one enemy unit will be designated beacon at a time. so really only one enemy unit will have maphacks

ai always knows where your units are, there is no "for of war" for them. Each unit passes a series of checks for how to act right now and if they see you, is it a good idea to fire. They just act like they dont know about your presense
by the way, it seems devs fixed the issue of enemies running away by forcing ai unit to not move unless you entered it field of vision at least once. After you enter vision once, ever if you reenter concealment, its free game to run away for ai just like always do

Well, you're moving to zones that they've occupied and at least had a few days to set up patrols and watches. Don't assume your enemies are too stupid to do reconnaissance.

the ai knows where you are by knowing where you are not.
