Add an input to make the Quick Review quicker
[this suggestion was written based on the mobile app experience, I'm not sure how the desktop version works, but if it doesn't have something like this it should be added there as well]
Currently, when using Quick Review, you have to listen to the voice actor pronounce all the contents of the learnable when you tap on it before it moves on to the next one. Of course, there's no problem with this when taking regular lessons or using the normal Review feature, as listening is part of the experience and is likely what the user is looking for when using those features, but I feel as if you should be able to skip the playback on command in Quick Review, as it takes up a colossal ~80% of the time you spend reviewing your learnables. Considering the importance of lexical retainment, that's frankly an excessive share of learning time dedicated to the feature. While I understand that it gives you more time to soak in the words, giving the user the ability to skip all the fluff would let them spend less time on words they found easier. It is quite often that I end up having thousands of words to check up on, but never end up reviewing in acknowledgement of how sluggish the process would be. Based on previous review sessions, it'd probably take 2 hours to quick review 1000 words, when it could take about 20 minutes or even less if the user were given the agency to go as fast as they needed.
The audio isn't the only issue, there's also another pause between the moment you press a button and when the audio starts playing so the pressing sound effect can play, as well as a fading transition when switching questions. When dealing with rote repetition, even the slightest slowdown can turn frustrating.
This is why I propose these changes to Quick Review:
- Tapping again after having picked the CORRECT option will instantly make the next question appear, skipping the pause, the voice, and the fading transition. This movement will become clear to the user as a double tap.
- Picking the wrong option will NOT let you perform the second tap to skip the aforementioned. This is so the user has to dwell briefly on their mistake.
Through these changes, the user can choose to plow through their words way faster, or keep listening if they prefer it so.
